Amikacin induced cochlear SGN apoptosis. Immunohistochemical staining and RT-PCR revealed a decrease in Bcl-2 protein ex-pression, and an increase in Bax protein, caspase-3 protein and caspase-6 mRNA expression fol-lowing amikacin treatment. (-)-Epigallocatechin-(3)-gallate (EGCG) inhibited SGN Bax protein, caspase-3 protein and caspase-6 mRNA expression, and enhanced Bcl-2 protein expression, thereby decreasing SGN apoptosis.
