The book reviewed here takes another perspective. By focusing on "Medical Transitions" the editors Andrews and Bullock describe the changes in twentieth-century medicine not simply as part of a modernization project that has an impficit agenda with defined goals, but as ad hoc transitions, which usually react to immediate challenges in order to improve the status quo.
