Planting method and row spacing are the most important yield contributing factors in sugarcane. A field experiment was carried out in order to determine quality and yield of sugarcane in various spatial arrangements. Treatments are 180 cm spaced trenches with triple row strips;180 cm spaced trenches with alternate row strips;120 cm spaced trenches with double row strips and 60 cm spaced furrow with single row. Perusal of data revealed that 3.6%, 13.4%, 15%, 15.3% more cane diameter (cm), cane length (cm), stripped cane yield (t·haˉ1</sup>), sugar yield (t·haˉ1</sup>) were obtained from 180 cm spaced trenches with triple row strips as compared to conventional planting method i.e. 60 cm spaced furrows. While the number of millable canes mˉ2</sup>, polarity %, cane juice purity %, cane juice %, commercial cane sugar % and cane sugar recovery % remained non-significant by different planting techniques.展开更多

Field exper...Effects of different boron (B) application methods on growth and yield of sunflower hybrids were checked out at Agronomic Research Farm, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan during spring, 2013. Field experiment was conducted by considering three sunflower hybrids viz., Patron 551, Patron 851 and S-278 along with different methods of B application i.e. no B application, seed treatment @ 0.05% B, soil B application @ 2 kg·ha-1 at sowing, soil B application @ 2 kg·ha-1 at ray floret stage and foliar application of B @ 200 mg·L-1 at ray floret stage. Uttermost plant height (150.78 cm), the number of leaves per plant (22.67) and stem diameter (1.62 cm) were accomplished when boron was soil applied @ 2 kg·ha-1 at sowing. Significantly higher head diameter (18.30 cm), number of achene per head (1266.44), 1000-achene weight (43.17 g) achene yield (2039.33 kg·ha-1), biological yield (9223.11 kg·ha-1) and harvest index (22.10%) were registered when boron was foliar applied @ 200 mg·L-1 at ray floret stage. Among sunflower hybrids, Patron 551 produced significantly higher growth and yield attributes as compared with Patron 851 and S-278 hybrids. This study suggested that the selection of Patron 551 hybrid with practicing boron foliar application @ 200 mg·L-1 at ray floret stage could be helpful in achieving the sunflower crop genetic potential.展开更多
A field experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the economics of different genotypes of cotton planted under various planting densities at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture Faisalabad during the...A field experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the economics of different genotypes of cotton planted under various planting densities at Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture Faisalabad during the summer season in 2013. Sowing was done manually with the help of dibbling method on both sides of the bed in standing water, with bed distance of 75 cm. The crop was sown in May and the experiment comprised of following FH-142, FH-114 at various densities (S1 = 10 cm, S2 = 15 cm, S3 =20 cm, S4 = 25 cm, S5 = 30 cm). Data regarding net field benefit, benefit cost ratio, dominance analysis, and marginal rate of return were collected. The experimental results showed that maximum NFB of (Rs. 222,575), (Rs. 202,483) was achieved in FH-142 and FH-114 when planted at a plant spacing of 20 cm and 15 cm respectively. While the maximum benefit cost ratio (BCR) of 1.76 was found in genotype FH-142 at plant spacing of 20 and 25 cm and FH-114 depicted maximum BCR of 1.62 and 1.61 when planted at plant spacing of 15 and 20 cm, respectively. Dominance analysis of FH-142 planted at 10 and 15 cm while FH-114 at plant spacing of 10, 15 and 20 cm was dominated due to their lower net field benefits as compared to other treatments, while maximum marginal rate of return (1494%, 788%) by planting FH-142, FH-114 was obtained at 30 cm and 25 cm recorded respectively.展开更多

A study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of different planting techniques on performance of sugarcane at Agronomic Research Area, Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture Faisalabad during Kharif 2014. Experimental treatments comprised of: 180 cm spaced trenches with tripple row strips, 180 cm spaced trenches with alternate row strips, 120 cm spaced trenches with double row strips and 60 cm spaced furrows with single rows. Sugarcane cultivar HSF-240 was used as experimental material. The experimental was conducted in RCBD with four replications. The expeimental results revealed that sugarcane number of tillers, plant height, cane length, stripped cane weight and stripped cane yield increased progressively with the increase in row spacing from 60 to 180 cm. While germination percentage and number of millable canes were not affected by different sowing techniques, maximum number of tillers (15.96 m-2), plant height (333.25 cm), stripped cane weight (0.94 kg) and stripped cane yield (107 t·ha-1) were recorded from 180 cm spaced trenches with tripple row strips.展开更多

The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with factorial arrangement with three replications. Treatments comprised of: 0 kg N ha-1, 75 kg N ha-1, 100 kg N ha-1, 125 kg N ha-1 and 0 kg K ha-1, 50 kg K ha-1, 75 kg K ha-1, 100 kg K ha-1. Data on disease severity and paddy yield were recorded using standard procedures. Paddy yield was affected significantly by various combinations of N & K. In case of bacterial leaf blight, minimum diseased incidence percentage was observed when nitrogen alone was applied @ 75 kg·ha-1 in contrast to fertilizer applied @ 125 kg N ha-1 + 50 kg K ha-1 which showed maximum diseased incidence percentage. Maximum paddy yield (4.32 t·ha-1 ) was recorded when rice was fertilized @ 75 kg N ha-1 + 100 kg K ha-1 as compared to sole fertilization of 75 kg K ha-1 that produced minimum paddy yield (2.40 t·ha-1). Maximum gross income, net returns and benefit cost ratio were obtained where rice crop was fertilized @ 75 kg N ha-1 and 100 kg K ha-1.展开更多

This study was conducted to explore the deleterious effects of different chromium (Cr) stress levels, i.e., O, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 μmol L^-1, on two maize genotypes, Wandan 13 and Runnong 35. Both genotypes were evaluated by measuring their growth and yield characteristics, Cr accumulation in different plant tissues, alterations in osmolyte accumulation, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and anti-oxidative enzyme activity to scavenge ROS. The results showed that Cr stress decreased the leaf area, cob formation, 100-grain weight, shoot fresh biomass, and yield formation, while Cr accumulation in different maize tissues was found in the order of roots 〉 leaves 〉 stem ~ seeds in both genotypes. The increased Cr toxicity resulted in higher free proline, soluble sugars and total phenolic contents, and lower soluble protein contents. However, enhanced lipid peroxidation was noticed in the forms of malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance accumulation, and electrolyte leakage. The hyperactivity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, especially glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase indicated that these anti-oxidative enzymes had a central role in protecting maize from Cr toxicity, especially for Wandan 13. Moreover, higher uptake and less translocation of Cr contents into the grains of Wandan 13 implied its importance as a potential candidate against soil Cr pollution.展开更多
