Objective: To understand the impact of platelet associated immunoglobulin G(PAIg G)/platelet associated immunoglobulin M(PAIg M) on severity of dengue virus infection leading to thrombocytopenia. Methods: In this study we examined a total of 52 patients who were having secondary infection of dengue in acute phase by using competitive ELISA.Results: A decrease in the platelet count was observed at the acute phase of infection while all along the recovery stage the count of platelet was significantly increased. A significant decrease was observed in PAIg G and PAIg M in these subjects. Inverse correlation was found between platelets count and PAIg G/PAIg M among the subjects studied. In the platelets elution from ten subjects, anti-dengue virus immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M were observed. PAIg G and PAIg M with inclined levels were higher in dengue hemorrhagic fever than the classical dengue fever. In the development of dengue hemorrhagic fever PAIg M inclined level was independently associated with high specificity, showing a possible indication of dengue hemorrhagic fever. Conclusions: This study suggests that in secondary dengue virus infection, the PAIg G and PAIg M levels, and the activity of anti-dengue virus play key roles, both in the development and severity of the disease. 展开更多

Objective:To compare the proximate composition, mineral contents, antimicrobial, phytochemical and Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy analysis of bark, stem and seed of Hippophae rhamnoides. Methods:Proximate composition was determined according to the described methods.Mineral analysis was carried out by atomic absorption spectroscopy and flame photometer.Antimicrobial activities were evaluated according to the agar well diffusion method.Phytochemical qualitative analysis was carried out according to the described methods and functional groups were determined by FTIR Prestige-21 Shimadzu Japan. Results:The proximate analysis showed high content of protein and fiber in stem and bark.High content of Na(900 mg/L)and K(670 mg/L)was found in bark powder, while in seed, high contents of Ca(800 mg/L),Mg(725 mg/L),Fe(250 mg/L)Zn(90 mg/L)and Mn(65 mg/L)were found compared to stem and bark.Phenols, flavonoids and tannins showed high contents in stem and bark of all extracts. The bark aqueous extract showed high zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus(21 mm)and Escherichia coli(20 mm),while methanol extract of stem showed high zone of inhibition(14 mm and 13 mm)against Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli respectively. The aqueous extract of bark documented high zone of inhibition against Aspergillus niger(21 mm)and Aspergillus parasiticus(20 mm).FTIR spectra revealed the presence of OH,C-O and C=O functional groups. Conclusions:The study concludes that bark, stem and seed extracts will be useful guideline for the new syntheses of feed, food supplements and herb drugs with various combination, which can be used for the treatment of many diseases at global level especially in tropical regions as well as the male nutrition problems in these areas. 展开更多

Objective:To analyze the methanol extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum(T.foenum-graecum)for antioxidant, phytotoxic and cytotoxic activity. Methods:The powder of T.foenum-graecum was extracted in diluted methanol with the help of random shaking method. All extracts of the plant were measured for cytotoxic activity(beside brine shrimp and antioxidant activity vs.1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical). Results:Various concentrations of methanolic extract of T.foenum-graecum were observed as 36.16%to 54.12%with rising concentrations of 50 to 1000μg/mL.Significantly phytotoxic activity(100 and 1000μg/mL)reduced the growth of roots(radicals)and shoots(hypocotyls)of rice when compared to control after 3 and 7 days’treatment. At a concentration of 10μg/mL,the survival rate of cytotoxic activity of brine shrimp was maximum and at a concentration of 250μg/mL,the death rate of brine shrimp was maximum.Conclusions:T.foenum-graecum has potential activity against free radical mediated sickness and thus it is possible to treat cancer. 展开更多

Objective:To assess the resistance against widely used antibiotics in case of Acinetobacter baumannii(A.baumannii)infection.Methods:A total of 350 samples of pus, urine, swab and others from different patients were examined and the bacterial growth appeared in 50 samples. Each sample was inoculated on blood,MacConkey and cystine lactose electrolyte deficient agar. The antimicrobial susceptibility profile of the isolates was determined using agar plate method/disk-diffusion method(modified-Kirby Baur disc diffusion method). Results:In current study,a large number of isolates of A.baumannii obtained from different specimens were resistant to avelox(56%),followed by tygacil(46%),augmentin(46%),cefspan(38%),cefixime(24%)and ampicillin(20%).However,the antibiogram of A.baumannii also showed that most of the isolates(88%)were highly sensitive to cefalexin.Second maximum sensitivity of A.baumannii was seen to amikacin(84%).The sensitivity of isolates against amikacin was followed by ticarcillin(80%).Meronem was found highly active against the tested isolates(78%).Sensitivity was observed for tienem(76%),sulzone(72%)followed by azactam(68%),cefobid(66%)to cefotaxime(66%)and ciproxin(62%).Conclusions:Results elucidate that A.baumannii is a severe problem as it has become a highly resistant species in hospitalized patients and resistant A.baumannii infection turned out to have increased all-cause mortality. 展开更多
