Purpose:The Self -Care Program for p regnant women(developed by the second author),is a measure for the prevention of premature births,involving the pregnant women themselves in the usual prenatal care.The women look ...Purpose:The Self -Care Program for p regnant women(developed by the second author),is a measure for the prevention of premature births,involving the pregnant women themselves in the usual prenatal care.The women look out for warning signs and measur e their vaginal pH twice a week.Consequently,disturb ances of the vagi-nalmilieu and infection can be detected earlier.Based on comments from participating patien ts,we got the impres-sion that many of them had not been inf ormed by their ob-stetrician about the Program,and th at some physicians were against it.We wanted to verify t hese impressions.Materials and Methods:140women were questioned again.The data was compiled by the patients themselves.Re-sults:114completely answered form s were received(81%).Nearly 75%had got their informatio n about the program from the Internet or the press.Only 14%had re-ceived the recommendation from their physician.In 83(73%)vaginal pH was measured by the doctor,34%of the doctors did not know their patien ts were additionallyparticipating in the program.Of those who did know,72%welcomed the participation,8%didnt,and 9%were indifferent.Other statements:11%.Conclusion:The re-sults show that only few doctors recommended the Self -Care Program and that only one third o f them knew their patients were taking part.The reaso ns for this lack of communication can only be speculate d upon.In most cases there is no scientific basis supporting the reasons why some physicians disapprove of the progra m.Therefore,it would be advisable to provide the physicia ns with more informa-tion about it.展开更多
