Rare-earth silicates are promising environmental barrier coatings(EBCs)that can protect SiC_(f)/Si C_(m)substrates in next-genera tion gas turbine blades.Notably,RE_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)(RE=Yb and Ho)shows potential as an EBC due to its coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)compatible with substrates and high resistance to water vapor corrosion.The target operating temperature for next-generation tur bine blades is 1400°C.Corrosion is inevitable during adhesion to molten volcanic ash,and thus,understanding the corrosion behavior o the material is crucial to its reliability.This study investigates the high-temperature corrosion behavior of sintered RE_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)(RE=Yb and Ho).Samples were prepared using a solid-state reaction and hot-press method.They were then exposed to volcanic ash at 1400°C for 224,and 48 h.After 48 h of exposure,volcanic ash did not react with Yb_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)but penetrated its interior,causing damage.Meanwhile Ho_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)was partially dissolved in the molten volcanic ash,forming a reaction zone that prevented volcanic ash melts from penetrating the interior.With increasing heat treatment time,the reaction zone expanded,and the thickness of the acicular apatite grains increased The Ca:Si ratios in the residual volcanic ash were mostly unchanged for Yb_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)but decreased considerably over time for Ho_(2)Si_(2)O_(7).Th Ca in volcanic ash was consumed and formed apatite,indicating that RE^(3+)ions with large ionic radii(Ho>Yb)easily precipitated apatit from the volcanic ash. 展开更多

Variables associated with suicide ideation and plans in a Japanese population

The purpose of our study was to clarify variables associated with suicide ideation and plans in a Japanese population. We conducted a random-sampling survey on mental health and suicide using a self-administered questionnaire for Hamamatsu City residents aged 15-79 yrs between May and June, 2008. This included questions about gender, age, outpatient treatment, alcohol problems, depression, living ar-rangements, marital status, annual family income, industry types as well as suicide ideation and plans. The correlation between these variables and suicide ideation or plans was then analyzed with multiple logistic regression analysis by gender. A total of 1051 responded to this questionnaire (response rate, 53.9%). Variables statistically associated with suicide ideation in males included alcohol problems, depression, lower annual family income, and ac-commodations/eating/drinking services, while in females, the variables were younger age, outpatient treatment, depression, living alone, being single, being separated, lower annual family income, accommodations/eating/drinking services and unemployment. On the other hand, variables statistically associated with suicide plans in males were younger age, alcohol problems, depression, and lower annual family income, while in females they were younger age, alcohol problems, depression, being separated, lower annual family income, manufacturing, and accommodations/eating/drinking services. Ex-cept for industry types, variables associated with suicide ideation or plans were consistent with previous studies. The reason why workers engaging in manufacturing, or accommoda-tions/eating/drinking services were more likely to have suicide ideation or plans may be attributed to the structures and/or stresses unique to those industries. 展开更多

Acetone,as widely used reagents in industry and laboratories,are extremely harmful to the human.So the detection of acetone gas concentrations and leaks in special environments at room temperature is essential.Herein,the nanocomposite combining SnO-SnO_(2)(p-n junction)and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene was successfully synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method.Because of the existence of a small amount of oxygen during the hydrothermal conditions,part of the p-type SnO was oxidized to n-type SnO_(2),forming in-situ p-n junctions on the surface of Sn O.The hamburger-like SnO-SnO_(2)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) sensor exhibited improved acetone gas sensing response of 12.1(R_(g)/R_(a))at room temperature,which were nearly 11 and 4 times higher than those of pristine Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) and pristine SnO-SnO_(2),respectively.Moreover,it expressed a short recovery time(9 s)and outstanding reproducibility.Because of the different work functions,the Schottky barrier was formed between the SnO and the Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) nanosheets,acting as a hole accumulation layer(HALs)between Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) and tin oxides.Herein,the sensing mechanism based on the formation of hetero-junctions and high conductivity of the metallic phase of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene in SnO-SnO_(2)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) sensors was discussed in detail. 展开更多

In recent years,oxygen storage materials(OSMs)have been widely used in many fields.It would be particularly important for researchers to design high-oxygen-uptake/release-rate materials.In this study,various synthesis processes were used to successfully synthesize YBaCo_(4)O_(7+δ)and comprehensively investigate their potential applications.Compa red with traditional solid-state reaction method and co-precipitation method,the results demonstrated that the utilization of mechanical ball milling treatment on co-precipitated precursors could lead to samples with reversible oxygen uptake/release under an oxidative atmosphere at low temperatures.The resultant materials exhibited fast oxygen absorption/desorption rate that could uptake/release oxygen directly to the equilibrium state within 9 min and20 min,respectively.The mechanochemically ball-milled sample possessed outstanding oxygen sto rage performance,which could be attributed to their small particle size,the active outer surface of particles,large specific surface area,and relatively low activation energy.Moreover,the ball-milled sample also exhibited excellent cycling stability during relatively short time spacing.TG results also demonstrated that the ball-milled samples could reversibly uptake/release 2.90 wt.%of excess oxygen(while only 0.70 wt.%for solid-state samples)by adjusting the ambient temperature under pure O_(2) atmosphere,which would make them promising candidates in various applications.This research demonstrated that mechanical treatment could be an effective strategy to tune the properties and oxygen storage capacity(OSC)performances of YBaCo_(4)O_(7+δ). 展开更多
