The main purpose of this paper is to present numerical results of static bending and free vibration of functionally graded porous(FGP) variable-thickness plates by using an edge-based smoothed finite element method(ES-FEM) associate with the mixed interpolation of tensorial components technique for the three-node triangular element(MITC3), so-called ES-MITC3. This ES-MITC3 element is performed to eliminate the shear locking problem and to enhance the accuracy of the existing MITC3 element. In the ES-MITC3 element, the stiffness matrices are obtained by using the strain smoothing technique over the smoothing domains formed by two adjacent MITC3 triangular elements sharing an edge. Materials of the plate are FGP with a power-law index(k) and maximum porosity distributions(U) in the forms of cosine functions. The influences of some geometric parameters, material properties on static bending, and natural frequency of the FGP variable-thickness plates are examined in detail. 展开更多

An effective hybrid optimization method is proposed by integrating an adaptive Kriging(A-Kriging)into an improved partial swarm optimization algorithm(IPSO)to give a so-called A-Kriging-IPSO for maximizing the buckling load of laminated composite plates(LCPs)under uniaxial and biaxial compressions. In this method,a novel iterative adaptive Kriging model, which is structured using two training sample sets as active and adaptive points,is utilized to directly predict the buckling load of the LCPs and to improve the efficiency of the optimization process. The active points are selected from the initial data set while the adaptive points are generated using the radial random-based convex samples. The cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method(CS-DSG3)is employed to analyze the buckling behavior of the LCPs to provide the response of adaptive and input data sets. The buckling load of the LCPs is maximized by utilizing the IPSO algorithm. To demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed methodology, the LCPs with different layers(2,3,4,and 10 layers),boundary conditions, aspect ratios and load patterns(biaxial and uniaxial loads)are investigated. The results obtained by proposed method are in good agreement with the literature results, but with less computational burden.By applying adaptive radial Kriging model, the accurate optimal resultsebased predictions of the buckling load are obtained for the studied LCPs. 展开更多

This paper for first time proposes an isogeometric analysis (IGA) for free vibration response of bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) rectangular plates in the fluid medium. Material properties of the BDFG plate change in both the thickness and length directions via power-law distributions and Mori-Tanaka model. The governing equation of motion of BDFG plate in the fluid-plate system is formulated basing on Hamilton's principle and the refined quasi three-dimensional (3D) plate theory with improved function f(z). The fluid velocity potential is derived from the boundary conditions of the fluid-plate system and is used to determine the added mass. The discrete system of equations is derived from the Galerkin weak form and numerically analyzed by IGA. The accuracy and reliability of the proposed solutions are verified by comparing the obtained results with those published in the literature. Moreover, the effects of the various parameters such as the interaction boundary condition, geometric parameter, submerged depth of plate, fluid density, fluid level, and the material volume control coefficients on the free vibration behavior of BDFG plate in the fluid medium are investigated in detail. Some major findings regarding the numerical results are withdrawn in conclusions. 展开更多

Herein,a two-node beam element enriched based on the Lagrange and Hermite interpolation function is proposed to solve the governing equation of a functionally graded porous(FGP)curved nanobeam on an elastic foundation in a hygro–thermo–magnetic environment. The material properties of curved nanobeams change continuously along the thickness via a power-law distribution, and the porosity distributions are described by an uneven porosity distribution. The effects of magnetic fields, temperature, and moisture on the curved nanobeam are assumed to result in axial loads and not affect the mechanical properties of the material. The equilibrium equations of the curved nanobeam are derived using Hamilton’s principle based on various beam theories, including the classical theory,first-order shear deformation theory, and higher-order shear deformation theory, and the nonlocal elasticity theory. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by comparing the results obtained with those of previous reliable studies.Additionally, the effects of different parameters on the free vibration behavior of the FGP curved nanobeams are investigated comprehensively. 展开更多

Homogenization is a promising approach to capture the behavior of complex structures like corrugated panels. It enables us to replace high-cost shell models with stiffness-equivalent orthotropic plate alternatives. Many homogenization models for corrugated panels of different shapes have been proposed. However, there is a lack of investigations for verifying their accuracy and reliability. In addition, in the recent trend of development of smoothed finite element methods, the cell-based smoothed three-node Mindlin plate element (CS-MIN3) based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) has been proposed and successfully applied to many analyses of plate and shell structures. Thus, this paper further extends the CS-MIN3 by integrating itself with homogenization models to give homogenization methods. In these methods, the equivalent extensional, bending, and transverse shear stiftriess components which constitute the equivalent orthotropic plate models are represented in explicit analytical expressions. Using the results of ANSYS and ABAQUS shell simulations as references, some numerical examples are conducted to verify the accuracy and reliability of the homogenization methods for static analyses of trapezoidally and sinusoidally corrugated panels. 展开更多

This article aims to propose a finite element formulation based on Quasi-3D theory for the static bending analysis of functionally graded porous(FGP)sandwich plates. The FGP sandwich plates consist of three layers including the bottom skin of homogeneous metal, the top skin of fully ceramic and the FGP core layer with uneven porosity distribution.A quadrilateral(Q4)element with nine degrees of freedom(DOFs)per node is derived and employed in analyzing the static bending response of the plate under uniform and/or sinusoidally distributed loads. The accuracy of the present finite element formulation is verified by comparing the obtained numerical results with the published results in the literature. Then, some numerical examples are performed to examine the effects of the parameters including power-law index k and porosity coefficient on the static bending response of rectangular FGP sandwich plates. In addition,a problem with a complicated L-shape model is conducted to illustrate the superiority of the proposed finite element method. 展开更多

In this paper,we developed highly accurate ensemble machine learning models integrating Reduced Error Pruning Tree(REPT)as a base classifier with the Bagging(B),Decorate(D),and Random Subspace(RSS)ensemble learning techniques for spatial prediction of rainfallinduced landslides in the Uttarkashi district, located in the Himalayan range,India. To do so,a total of 103 historical landslide events were linked to twelve conditioning factors for generating training and validation datasets.Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)and Area Under the receiver operating characteristic Curve(AUC)were used to evaluate the training and validation performances of the models. The results showed that the single REPT model and its derived ensembles provided a satisfactory accuracy for the prediction of landslides. The D-REPT model with RMSE=0.351 and AUC=0.907 was identified as the most accurate model, followed by RSS-REPT(RMSE=0.353 and AUC=0.898),B-REPT(RMSE=0.396 and AUC=0.876),and the single REPT model(RMSE=0.398 and AUC=0.836),respectively.The prominent ensemble models proposed and verified in this study provide engineers and modelers with insights for development of more advanced predictive models for different landslide-susceptible areas around the world. 展开更多
