Alzheimer’s disease(AD)stands out as the primary manifestation of age-related dementia,portraying a chronic neurodegenerative disorder distinguished by the accumulation of fibrillar amyloid-β(Aβ)plaques and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau.However,from a clinical standpoint,AD presents itself as a complex condition with a spectrum of dysfunctions rather than a singular pathological mechanism.An often-overlooked aspect of the disease is the presence of extensive cerebrovascular abnormalities,given that the majority of AD patients experience altered cerebral blood flow,damaged vasculature,increased microinfarcts and microhemorrhages.Animal models of AD further support this observation,showing cerebrovascular dysfunction such as impaired cerebral blood flow and altered cerebrovascular reactivity(Tataryn et al.,2021;Gareau et al.,2023). 展开更多

Simulation of Runoff and Sediment Yield for a Himalayan Watershed Using SWAT Model 被引量:6

Watershed is considered to be the ideal unit for management of the natural resources. Extraction of water-shed parameters using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) and use of mathematical models is the current trend for hydrologic evaluation of watersheds. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) having an interface with ArcView GIS software (AVSWAT2000/X) was selected for the estimation of runoff and sediment yield from an area of Suni to Kasol, an intermediate watershed of Satluj river, located in Western Himalayan region. The model was calibrated for the years 1993 & 1994 and validated with the observed runoff and sediment yield for the years 1995, 1996 and 1997. The performance of the model was evaluated using statistical and graphical methods to assess the capability of the model in simulating the run-off and sediment yield from the study area. The coefficient of determination (R2) for the daily and monthly runoff was obtained as 0.53 and 0.90 respectively for the calibration period and 0.33 and 0.62 respectively for the validation period. The R2 value in estimating the daily and monthly sediment yield during calibration was computed as 0.33 and 0.38 respectively. The R2 for daily and monthly sediment yield values for 1995 to 1997 was observed to be 0.26 and 0.47. 展开更多

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) typically use in-network processing to reduce the communication overhead. Due to the fusion of data items sourced at different nodes into a single one during in-network processing, the sanctity of the aggregated data needs to be ensured. Especially, the data integrity of the aggregated result is critical as any malicious update to it can jeopardize not one, but many sensor readings. In this paper, we analyse three different approaches to providing integrity support for SDA in WSNs. The first one is traditional MAC, in which each leaf node and intermediate node share a key with parent (symmetric key). The second is aggregate MAC (AMAC), in which a base station shares a unique key with all the other sensor nodes. The third is homomorphic MAC (Homo MAC) that is purely symmetric key-based approach. These approaches exhibit diverse trade-off in resource consumption and security assumptions. Adding together to that, we also propose a probabilistic and improved variant of homomorphic MAC that improves the security strength for secure data aggregation in WSNs. We carry out simulations in TinyOS environment to experimentally evaluate the impact of each of these on the resource consumption in WSNs. 展开更多

Enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity of samarium-doped zinc oxide nanostructures 被引量:5

In the present work,we have synthesized samarium doped zinc oxide nanostructures(Zn1-xSmxO;x=0.00,0.02,0.04 and 0.06) via chemical precipitation method and studied their structural,morphological,optical and photocatalytic properties.X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns,PL and Raman spectra results indicate that the undoped and Sm-doped ZnO nanostructures are crystallized in a hexagonal wurtzite structure.FESEM images show that the morphology of the sample changes from cubical to hexagonal nanostructures with increase in Sm3+doping concentration.The EDX spectra confirm the incorporation of Sm3+ion in ZnO.The influence of Sm3+doping on the structure,morphology,absorption,emission and photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanostructures were investigated systematically.The addition of Sm3+ion leads to a red shift in the optical energy band gap from 3.19 to 2.67 eV and hence,increases the visible light absorption ability.The presence of E2(H) and E1(LO) modes in microRaman spectra confirms the crystallinity and defects in the samples.The detailed photocatalytic experiments reveal that Sm-doped ZnO nanostructures show the maximum photodegradation efficiency for Methylene blue(MB) dye for x=0.04,i,e.,94.94%,under visible light irradiation.The photocatalytic efficiency improves by 6.98 times when ZnO is doped with rare earth metal ion(Sm3+) and is a potential candidate for practical applications.The investigation demonstrates that as-synthesized nano-sized photocatalysts act as an efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of MB dye. 展开更多

In monocytic cells, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)- and TLR2-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) cause oxidative stress and inflammatory response; however, the mechanism is not well understood. The present study investigated the role of interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase (IRAK), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), p67phox and Nox-2 in TLR4- and TLR2-induced ROS generation during interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) transcription, processing, and secretion. An IRAK1/4 inhibitor, U0126, PD98059, an NADPH oxidase inhibitor (diphenyleneiodonium (DPI)), and a free radical scavenger (N-acetyl cysteine (NAC))-attenuated TLR4 (lipopolysaccharide (LPS))- and TLR2 (Pam3csk4)-induced ROS generation and IL-1β production in THP-1 and primary human monocytes. An IRAK1/4 inhibitor and siRNA-attenuated LPS- and Pam3csk4-induced ERK-IRAK1 association and ERK phosphorylation and activity. LPS and Pam3csk4 also induced IRAK1/4-, ERK- and ROS-dependent activation of activator protein-1 (AP-1), IL-1β transcription, and IL-1β processing because significant inhibition in AP-1 activity, IL-lp transcription, Pro- and mature IL-p expression, and caspase-1 activity was observed with PD98059, U0126, DPI, NAC, an IRAK1/4 inhibitor, tanshinone Ila, and IRAK1 siRNA treatment. IRAK-dependent ERK-p67phox interaction, p67phox translocation, and p67phox-Nox-2 interaction were observed. Nox-2 siRNA significantly reduced secreted IL-lp, IL-1β transcript, pro- and mature IL-1β expression, and caspase-1 activity indicating a role for Nox-2 in LPS- and Pam3csk4-induced IL-1β production, transcription, and processing. In the present study, we demonstrate that the TLR4- and TLR2-induced IRAK-ERK pathway cross-talks with p67phox-Nox-2 for ROS generation, thus regulating IL-1β transcription and orocessin; in monocvtic cells. 展开更多

Neodymium-doped barium phosphate(NdBP)was prepared as single crystal by room temperature solution technique known as gel encapsulation technique.Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that the crystal belongs to orthorthombic system.The flower type morphology was observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM)and the stoichiometric composition of the prepared crystal was observed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDAX).The presence of functional group and other groups was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The electrical properties of these materials like dielectric constant(ε′),dieletric loss(tan σ)and ac conductivity[ln(σac)]was studied at different temperatures ranging from 40℃ to 420℃ in the frequency range of 5 kHz to 1 MHz.The activation energy values decreases with increase in frequency suggesting that the conduction mechanism is because of hopping of charge carriers. 展开更多
