He has put forward many valuable policy proposals, which won him respect from the international economics circle. He was the first to point out in his articles of the early 1990s various defects in the economic development taking place in Southeast Asia, and their possible impact on the Asian economy. Some of his hypotheses were later proved true in the Southeast Asian financial crisis.
