Summary of Professor Shen’s Experience in Treating Cough

Professor Shen pays attention to the simultaneous treatment of lung and stomach in the clinical treatment of cough. Professor Shen emphasized that the treatment of cough should be based on comprehensive judgments such as cough, phlegm, individual quality, general condition and pay attention to protecting the spleen and stomach while relieving cough. In the treatment, he is good at formulating prescriptions, using mulberry leaves and almonds, Uncaria and mint, Platycodonis Radix and Fritillaria thunbergii, Scutellariae Radix and Atractylodes macrocephala. Professor Shen pays attention to the impact of climate change on coughing. In the treatment of coughs occur in spring, he emphasizes on calming the liver and eliminating wind, nourishing yin and promoting body fluid while relieving the lung, relieving cough, resolving phlegm and relieving asthma. In the treatment of cough in autumn and winter, he focused on clearing, cooling and moisturizing, promoting body fluid and moisturizing. Nourish the viscera. Professor Shen inherited the style of ancient Lingnan medicine, and used the special herbal medicine of Lingnan area. He selected the prescriptions according to the locality. The Efficacy and Safety of Modified Xiaoyao San for Perimenopausal Syndrome (PMS): A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of modified Xiaoyao San (XYS) for treating Perimenopausal syndrome (PMS). Methods: Literature searches were carried out on PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wan Fang Database, and VIP Database up to December 2018. Hand search for further references was conducted. Study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and data analyses were performed as request of the Cochrane standards. Results: Nine publications in total were suitable for inclusion. There was evidence that modified XYS was tested to be more effective in improving overall symptoms compared with HRT (odds ratio 3.50, 95% CI 2.56 to 4.78). Whereas HRT was more sensitive and direct in decreasing FSH (WMD 6.69, 95% CI 5.60 to 9.52) and LH (WMD 7.00, 95% CI, 5.75 to 8.25) in comparison with XYS group. It was also strongly supported that XYS had less adverse effect than HRT (odds ratio 0.07, 95% CI 0.05 to 0.10). Conclusion: Modified XYS might be more effective and safer in treatment of perimenopausal syndrome. However, due to poor methodological quality in the majority of included studies, the potential benefit and safety about XYS need to be confirmed in rigorously designed, multi-centre, and large-scale trials.

A Meta-Analysis of Danhong Injection in the Treatment of Vascular Dementia

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Danhong injection in the treatment of vascular dementia. Methods: CNKI, VIP, CBM, MEDLINE, PubMed, and SCI Expanded databases were searched, and the clinical research literature of Danhong injection in the treatment of vascular dementia was collected. Literature screening and literature quality assessment were performed independently by two investigators based on inclusion criteria and the Cochrane System Evaluator’s Handbook version 5.0.0. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.0 software. Results: A total of 16 studies were included in a total of 1383 patients. Meta-analysis showed that Danhong injection combined with conventional chemotherapy can reduce the incidence of vascular dementia compared with conventional chemotherapy alone (odds ratio 3.13, 95% CI2.02 to 4.85, P < 0.0001), improved Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE)) score (SDD 1.76, 95% CI 0.67 to 2.85, P = 0.002). Conclusion: Danhong transfusion combined with chemical drugs for the treatment of vascular dementia is superior to the simple treatment of chemical drugs, which can improve the efficacy and quality of life of patients, indicating that Danhong injection has an auxiliary effect on the treatment of vascular dementia.

Construction of Complex Intervention in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): A Preliminary Methodological Study Based on Text Mining and Interviewing Method

Aim: To explore and analyze the feasibility of establishing a program of complex intervention in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based on Text Mining and Interviewing method. Methods: According to MRC, Constructing the program of complex intervention in TCM by Text Mining and Interviewing method should include 4 steps: 1) establishment of interview framework via normalization of extraction of ancient documents and Effectiveness of collection of modern periodical literatures;2) materialization of interview outline based on Focus Group Interview;3) rudimentary construction of complex intervention program based on Semi-structured Interview;4) evaluation of curative effect of complex intervention. Conclusions: It is feasible and significative to establish a program of complex intervention in TCM based on Text Mining and Interviewing method.
