At present,the main detection instruments for observing sporadic E(Es)layers are ground-based radars,dense networks of ground-based global navigation satellite system(GNSS)receivers,and GNSS radio occultation,but they...At present,the main detection instruments for observing sporadic E(Es)layers are ground-based radars,dense networks of ground-based global navigation satellite system(GNSS)receivers,and GNSS radio occultation,but they cannot capture the whole picture of the horizontal structure of Es layers.This study employs the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere and ionosphere eXtension model(WACCM-X 2.1)to derive the horizontal structure of the ion convergence region(HSICR)to explore the shapes of the large-scale Es layers over East Asia for the period from June 1 to August 31,2008.The simulation produced the various shapes of the HSICRs elongated in the northwest-southeast,northeast-southwest,or composed of individual small patches.The close connection between Es layer critical frequency(foEs)and vertical ion convergence indicates that the HSICR is a good candidate for revealing and explaining the horizontal structure of the large-scale Es layers.展开更多
This paper studies the relations between the great Wenchuan earthquake and the active-quiet periodic characteristics of strong earthquakes, the rhythmic feature of great earthquakes, and the grouped spatial distributi...This paper studies the relations between the great Wenchuan earthquake and the active-quiet periodic characteristics of strong earthquakes, the rhythmic feature of great earthquakes, and the grouped spatial distribution of Ms8.0 earthquakes in Chinese mainland. We also studied the relation between the Wenchuan earthquake and the stepwise migration characteristics of Ms≥7.0 earthquakes on the North-South seismic belt, the features of the energy releasing acceleration in the active crustal blocks related to the Wenchuan earthquake and the relation between the Wenchuan earthquake and the so called second-arc fault zone. The results can be summarized as follows: ① the occurrence of the Wenchuan earthquake was consistent with the activequiet periodic characteristics of strong earthquakes; ② its occurrence is consistent with the features of grouped occurrence of Ms8.0 earthquakes and follows the 25 years rhythm (each circulation experiences the same time) of great earthquakes; ③ the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake follows the well known stepwise migration feature of strong earthquakes on the North-South seismic belt; ④ the location where the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake took place has an obvious consistency with the temporal and spatial characteristic of grouped activity of Ms≥7.0 strong earthquakes on the second-arc fault zone; ⑤ the second-arc fault zone is not only the lower boundary for earthquakes with more than 30 km focal depth, but also looks like a lower boundary for deep substance movement; and ⑥ there are obvious seismic accelerations nearby the Qaidam and Qiangtang active crustal blocks (the northern and southern neighbors of the Bayan Har active block, respectively), which agrees with the GPS observation data.展开更多
The drought resistance of eight commonly used apple rootstocks under natural drought conditions was examined to provide clues for the selection,promotion,and utilization of drought-resistant apple rootstocks.The ultra...The drought resistance of eight commonly used apple rootstocks under natural drought conditions was examined to provide clues for the selection,promotion,and utilization of drought-resistant apple rootstocks.The ultrastructural differences and physiological and biochemical characteristics of the leaves of eight apple rootstocks under drought stress were observed.The index changes were used to rank drought resistance by the membership function method comprehensively.The results showed that the leaf thickness,palisade tissue thickness,sponge tissue thickness,net photosynthetic rate,and chlorophyll content were significantly higher in‘Fupingqiuzi'than those of other rootstocks at various stress conditions.The leaf water content and water use efficiency of'Qingzhen 1'were significantly higher than those of other rootstocks under different stress conditions.The root vigor of‘B.9'was significantly higher than that of other rootstocks.The results of membership function analysis showed that the drought resistance of different rootstocks was in the order:‘Fupingqiuzi'>‘Qingzhen 1'>‘B.9'>‘MM.111'>‘GM256'>‘MM.106'>‘M.26'>‘M.9-Nic29'.‘Fupingqiuzi'had the strongest drought resistance,and‘Qingzhen 1'and‘B.9'were also relatively droughtresistant.These rootstocks can be used as raw materials for drought-resistant apple rootstock breeding and are propagated and utilized in arid areas.展开更多
The use of magnesium hydroxide(Mg(OH)_(2))was proposed as a filler to replace part of the calcium carbonate(CaCO_(3))in cigarette paper and reduce the toxicity of the smoke from cigarettes.Physical property changes an...The use of magnesium hydroxide(Mg(OH)_(2))was proposed as a filler to replace part of the calcium carbonate(CaCO_(3))in cigarette paper and reduce the toxicity of the smoke from cigarettes.Physical property changes and smoke reducing ability of this possible substitution were effectively studied.The results showed that adding 10%Mg(OH)_(2) could meet the requirements of the physical property of the cigarette paper.Moreover,with the addition of Mg(OH)2 as a filler in the cigarette paper,the pyrolysis temperature of the cigarette paper decreased,while the porosity and specific surface area increased.As a result,the main-stream smoke had a lower smoke total particle matter(STMP),tar,nicotine and carbon monoxide content,and the side-stream smoke also had a lower STMP.展开更多

The measurement of quantum correlations is a central challenge. A recently proposed measure of quantum correlations,local quantum uncertainty(LQU), satisfies all the physical requirements as a measure of quantum correlations. This study derives a closed-form lower bound of the LQU for arbitrary-dimensional bipartite quantum states using operator relaxation. We also compared the lower bound with the optimized LQU for several typical sets of quantum states. The results show that the lower bound is near to the optimized LQU for three-dimensional bipartite quantum systems.展开更多
