Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)has been widely used in many fields and is arousing global attention.As the resolution of the equipped sensors in the UAV becomes higher and the tasks become more complicated,much higher data rate and longer communication range are required in the foreseeable future.As the millimeter-wave(mm Wave)band can provide more abundant frequency resources than the microwave band,much higher achievable rate can be guaranteed to support UAV services such as video surveillance,hotspot coverage,and emergency communications,etc.The flexible mm Wave beamforming can be used to overcome the high path loss caused by the long propagation distance.In this paper,we study three typical application scenarios for mm Wave-UAV communications,namely communication terminal,access point,and backbone link.We present several key enabling techniques for UAV communications,including beam tracking,multi-beam forming,joint Tx/Rx beam alignment,and full-duplex relay techniques.We show the coupling relation between mm Wave beamforming and UAV positioning for mm Wave-UAV communications.Lastly,we summarize the challenges and research directions of mm Wave-UAV communications in detail. 展开更多

In this paper,we study turbo codes from the digital signal processing point of view by defining turbo codes over the complex field.It is known that iterative decoding and interleaving between concatenated parallel codes are two key elements that make turbo codes perform significantly better than the conventional error control codes.This is analytically illustrated in this paper.We show that the decoded noise mean power in the iterative decoding decreases when the number of iterations increases,as long as the interleaving decorrelates the noise after each iterative decoding step.An analytic decreasing rate and the limit of the decoded noise mean power are given.The limit of the decoded noise mean power of the iterative decoding of a turbo code with two parallel codes with their rates less than 1/2 is one third of the noise power before the decoding,which can not be achieved by any non-turbo codes with the same rate.From this study,the role of designing a good interleaver can also be clearly seen. 展开更多

In this paper,we introduce a new concept,namelyε-arithmetics,for real vectors of any fixed dimension.The basic idea is to use vectors of rational values(called rational vectors)to approximate vectors of real values of the same dimension withinεrange.For rational vectors of a fixed dimension m,they can form a field that is an mth order extension Q(α)of the rational field Q whereαhas its minimal polynomial of degree m over Q.Then,the arithmetics,such as addition,subtraction,multiplication,and division,of real vectors can be defined by using that of their approximated rational vectors withinεrange.We also define complex conjugate of a real vector and then inner product and convolutions of two real vectors and two real vector sequences(signals)of finite length.With these newly defined concepts for real vectors,linear processing,such as linear filtering,ARMA modeling,and least squares fitting,can be implemented to real vectorvalued signals with real vector-valued coefficients,which will broaden the existing linear processing to scalar-valued signals. 展开更多

Underwater sonar target imaging via compressed sensing with M sequences

Due to the low sound propagation speed, the tradeoff between high azimuth resolution and wide imaging swath has severely limited the application of sonar underwater target imaging. However, based on compressed sensing(CS) technique, it is feasible to image targets with merely one pulse and thus avoid the above tradeoff. To investigate the possible waveforms for CS-based underwater imaging, the deterministic M sequences widely used in sonar applications are introduced in this paper. By analyzing the compressive matrix constructed from M sequences, the coherence parameter and the restricted isometry property(RIP) of the matrix are derived. Also, the feasibility and advances of M sequence are demonstrated by being compared with the existing Alltop sequence in underwater CS imaging framework. Finally, the results of numerical simulations and a real experiment are provided to reveal the effectiveness of the proposed signal. 展开更多
