Lung cancer is the most common cancer-related death in both men and women in the world. Approximately 25% of all cancer deaths are attributable to lung carcinoma. Moreover, about one-half of patients with lung cancer ... Lung cancer is the most common cancer-related death in both men and women in the world. Approximately 25% of all cancer deaths are attributable to lung carcinoma. Moreover, about one-half of patients with lung cancer have metastases at the time of initial diagnosis, most frequently of lymph nodes, adrenals, liver, bone and brain. However metastasis to the colon is very rare. Over the past 25 years about 13 cases of symptomatic colonic metastases from lung malignancies of all types have been reported in the literature. Hypercalcemia and leukocytosis are two of the most common paraneoplastic syndromes associated with various malignancies. However, concomitant manifestation of hypercalcemia and leukocytosis are occasionally observed in the same cancer patients. Here, we present a rare case of colonic metastasis from a squamous cell carcinoma of the lung associated with paraneoplastic syndromes of hypercalcemia and leukocytosis. 展开更多

Mixed medullary-follicular carcinomas (MMFCs) are tumors of the thyroid that display morphological and immunohistochemical features of both medullary and follicular neoplasms. These tumors are rare and less than 40 cases have been described in the literature since the early 1980s The term medullary-follicular thyroid carcinoma denotes a tumor which exhibits the features of a medullary carcinoma and shows positive expression of calcitonin on immunohistochemistry. It is a follicular-derived thyroid carcinoma and is positive for thyroglobulin expression within the same tumor. Most reported cases have lymph node involvement at the time of diagnosis. In cases having disease progression, distant metastases develop in the lung, liver, mediastinum and bone. We report a case of a male patient with mixed medullary-follicular thyroid carcinoma and a review of the literature. 展开更多

Balance between education and game-play— A case study of design and optimization of the mini-game book classification 被引量:4

Purpose: Based on our experience of designing and testing a computer-based game for teaching undergraduate students information literacy (IL) concepts and skills, this paper summarizes the basic strategies for striking a balance between education and entertainment for the designers of quality IL games. Design/methodology/approach: The project team recruited 10 college students to play the game and post-game group interviews revealed problems and optimization priorities. The optimized game was tested among 50 college students. Based on a comparison of testing results of the two versions of the game, basic strategies for designing quality 1L games were summarized. Findings: The following 5 basic strategies can effectively promote combination of education and entertainment: l) using adventure games to enhance gaming experience, 2) plotting an intriguing story to attract players, 3) motivating players to engage in game play with game components such as challenge, curiosity, fantasy and control, 4) presenting learning materials through game props, and 5) assigning players tasks to be completed with subject knowledge. Research limitations: The 5 basic strategies have been tested only in the development process of one game, and the book classification knowledge in the mini-game is limited to the 22 major categories of the Chinese Library Classification. Practical implications: University libraries may refer to our experience to design and utilize educational games to promote the IL education for college students. Originality value: Few empirical studies tested and summarized strategies for combining learning and fun in the design of IL games for university students. The 5 strategies, which are summarized in the process of design and optimization of the mini-game book classification, are valuable for other designers of IL games. 展开更多

缺陷敏感性是薄壁筒壳结构设计所面临的主要问题之一,通常利用折减因子来量化筒壳结构的缺陷敏感性程度.然而现有缺陷敏感性分析方法大多以预测筒壳折减因子下限为目的,未考虑不同形位公差水平对筒壳折减因子的影响.针对此问题,论文提... 缺陷敏感性是薄壁筒壳结构设计所面临的主要问题之一,通常利用折减因子来量化筒壳结构的缺陷敏感性程度.然而现有缺陷敏感性分析方法大多以预测筒壳折减因子下限为目的,未考虑不同形位公差水平对筒壳折减因子的影响.针对此问题,论文提出了一种考虑形位公差的薄壁筒壳折减因子预测方法.该方法基于多点最不利扰动载荷法进行最不利缺陷搜索,获得筒壳不同形位公差下的折减因子下限值,从而确定考虑形位公差的薄壁筒壳折减因子参考值,并利用不完全折减刚度法对计算过程进行加速.算例结果表明论文提出的筒壳折减因子预测方法可在保证安全可靠的前提下,有效提高折减因子预测精度,消除筒壳结构设计过程中不必要的安全裕度,对结构减重有积极意义.未来可基于该方法展开我国新一代航天结构薄壁筒壳折减因子设计规范的研究工作,进一步提高我国航天筒壳结构设计的精细化和轻量化水平. 展开更多

Thin-walled structures are commonly utilized in aerospace and aircraft structures,which are prone to buckling under axial compression and extremely sensitive to geometric imperfections.After decades of efforts,it still remains a challenging issue to accurately predict the lower-bound buckling load due to the impact of geometric imperfections.Up to now,the lower-bound curve in NASA SP-8007 is still widely used as the design criterion of aerospace thin-walled structures,and this series of knockdown factors(KDF)has been proven to be overly conservative with the significant promotion of the manufacturing process.In recent years,several new numerical and experimental methods for determining KDF have been established,which are systematically reviewed in this paper.The Worst Multiple Perturbation Load Approach(WMPLA)is one of the most representative methods to reduce the conservatism of traditional methods in a rational manner.Based on an extensive collection of test data from 1990 to 2020,a new lower-bound curve is approximated to produce a series of improved KDFs.It is evident that these new KDFs have an overall improvement of 0.1-0.3 compared with NASA SP-8007,and the KDF predicted by the WMPLA is very close to the front of the new curve.This may provide some insight into future design guidelines of axially compressed cylindrical shells,which is promising for the lightweight design of large-diameter aerospace structures. 展开更多
