A series of parallel normal faults are distributed in the Helan Mountain-Yinchuan Basin tectonic belt, where a historical M8.0 earthquake occurred. It is rare that such a great earthquake occurs in a normal fault system within the continent. To deeply understand the fine structure of the normal fault system,we deployed 104 broadband temporary stations near the system, collected data from permanent stations and other temporary stations nearby, and obtained the high-precision threedimensional S-wave velocity structure beneath 206 stations via joint inversion of receiver function and surface wave.A typical graben-in-graben feature bounded by four major faults was identified in the Yinchuan Basin. We analyzed the seismicity in the normal fault system and found a seismic strip in the southern part of the basin, where there are significant changes in the sedimentary thickness, which is speculated to be the southern boundary of the normal fault system. There are significant differences in the crustal thickness and velocity structure in the crust on both sides of the boundary between the Helan Mountain and the Yinchuan Basin, and a low-velocity zone was identified in the upper mantle beneath this boundary, which could be related to the fact that the Helan Mountain-Yinchuan Basin tectonic belt is located between the Alxa Block and the Ordos Block. The M8.0 Yinchuan-Pingluo earthquake occurred at the junction of four major faults in the Yinchuan Basin, which was located in the high-velocity zone near the velocity transition zone at the basin-mountain boundary. The low-velocity zone in the upper mantle beneath this boundary may have promoted the nucleation of this earthquake.Based on evidence from geological drilling, micro seismicity, the regional stress field, and the velocity models obtained in this study,it is inferred that the eastern piedmont fault zone of the Helan Mountain was the seismogenic fault of the 1739 M8.0 Yinchuan-Pingluo earthquake. 展开更多

Different from traditional metal-support heterogenous catalysts, inverse heterogeneous catalysts,in which the surface of metal is decorated by metal oxide, have recently attracted increasing interests owing to the unique interracial effect and electronic structure. However,a deep insight into the effect of metaloxide interaction on the catalytic performance still remains a great challenge. In our work,an inverse hematite/palladium(Fe_(2) O_(3)/Pd) hybrid nanostructure,i.e.,the active Fe_(2) O_(3) ultrathin oxide layers partially covering on the surface of Pd nanoparticles(NPs),exhibited superior electrocatalytic performance towards methanol oxidation reaction(MOR) as compared to the bare Pd NPs based on density functional theory calculation. The charge could transfer from Pd to Fe_(2) O_(3) driven by the built-in potential at the interface of Pd and Fe_(2) O_(3),which favors the downshift of d band center of Pd.With the assistance of interfacial hydroxyl OH*,the cleavage of O—H and C—H in CH_(3) OH could take place much easily with lower barrier ene rgy on Fe_(2) O_(3)/Pd than that on pure Pd via two electrons transferring reaction pathways. Our results highlight that the syne rgy of Pd and Fe_(2) O_(3) at the interface could facilitate the electrochemical transformation of methanol into formaldehyde assisted with interfacial hydroxyl OH*. 展开更多

The feasibility of the rapid degradation of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) by micron-size silver (Ag)/iron (Fe) particles was investigated.Ag/Fe particles with different ratios (0,0.05%,0.09%,0.20%,and 0.45%) were prepared by electroless silver plating on 300 mesh Fe powder, and were used to degrade HCB at different pH values and temperatures. The dechlorination ability of Fe greatly increased with small Ag addition, whereas too much added Ag would cover the Fe surface and reduce the effective reaction surface, thereby decreasing the extent of dechlorination. The optimal Ag/Fe ratio was 0.09%.Tafel polarization curves showed that HCB was rapidly degraded at neutral or acidic pH,whereas low pH levels severely intensified H2 production, which consumed the reducing electrons needed for the HCB degradation.HCB degradation was more sensitive to temperature than pH.The rate constant of HCB dechlorination was 0.452 min-1 at 85℃,50 times higher than that at 31℃.HCB was degraded in a successive dechlorination pathway, yielding the main products 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene and 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene within 2 hr. 展开更多

The cement-based solidification/stabilization (S/S) of nitrobenzene (NB) contaminated soils, with cement and lime as binders, sodium silicate solution and powder activated carbon (PAC) as additives, was optimized through an orthogonal experiment, and S/S efficiency was estimated by both leaching test and volatilization measurement. The leaching test results showed that the factors affecting S/S efficiency were NB concentration, cement-to-lime ratio and binder-to-soils ratio, in sequence. With increasing curing time, the leaching concentration of NB between different levels of the same factor in the orthogonal experiment decreased, and less than 9% NB leached out from the 28 d cured samples. The volatilization measurement results indicated that 0.5 %0 of NB was volatilized during the mixing and curing processes for the samples without PAC in the 28 d cycle, whereas adding 2 wt% and 5 wt% PAC, with respect to the weight of contaminated soils, could reduce NB volatilization to half of its original values either during the mixing or curing process. The optimizing formula, that is, contaminated soils (dry weight):cement:lime = 100:25:25, with 5 wt% additional sodium silicate and 2 wt% additional PAC, was applied to the engineering application of NB contaminated soils. Both the leaching test results of the product and the ambient air quality monitoring results met related regulations during the treating process. 展开更多
