Role of bitter contributors and bitter taste receptors:a comprehensive review of their sources,functions and future development

Bitterness,one of the 5“basic tastes”,is usually undesired by humans.However,abundant literature reported that bitter fruits and vegetables have beneficial health effects due to their bitter contributors.This review provided an updated overview of the main bitter contributors of typical bitter fruits and vegetables and their health benefits.The main bitter contributors,including phenolics,terpenoids,alkaloids,amino acids,nucleosides and purines,were summarized.The bioactivities and wide range of beneficial effects of them on anti-cancers,anti-inflammations,anti-microbes,neuroprotection,inhibiting chronic and acute injury in organs,as well as regulating behavior performance and metabolism were reported.Furthermore,not only did the bitter taste receptors(taste receptor type 2 family,T2Rs)show taste effects,but extra-oral T2Rs could also be activated by binding with bitter components,regulating physiological activities via modulating hormone secretion,immunity,metabolism,and cell proliferation.This review provided a new perspective on exploring and explaining the nutrition of bitter foods,revealing the relationship between the functions of bitter contributors from food and T2Rs.Future trends may focus on revealing the possibility of T2Rs being targets for the treatment of diseases,exploring the mechanism of T2Rs mediating the bioactivities,and making bitter foods more acceptable without getting rid of bitter contributors. 展开更多

如果借用自然界来隐喻,商业是复杂生态系统,那么行业是生态中的不同种群,企业就是种群中的活动单元。在人类漫长的商业史中,尽管变革常在,但在相当长一段时间里,这一变革主要是种群的起起落落,背后的微观基础是种群内企业的生老病死、... 如果借用自然界来隐喻,商业是复杂生态系统,那么行业是生态中的不同种群,企业就是种群中的活动单元。在人类漫长的商业史中,尽管变革常在,但在相当长一段时间里,这一变革主要是种群的起起落落,背后的微观基础是种群内企业的生老病死、代际更替,偶有间断但长期均衡的线性变革模式是理论和实践思维的主导逻辑。正因如此,新企业通常被隐喻为“经济活力之源”,强调的是时间维度上的“新生”和“老旧”,尽管极少数新企业超越了时间维度上的“新意”,为商业系统注入了“创造性破坏”,它们通过打破规则来推动行业种群变异,但这样的现象高度稀缺,终究仍是大多数人常识里的极端少数(Schumpeter,1942)。 展开更多

野大麦(Hordeum brevisubulatum)为禾本科大麦属多年生草本植物,具有较强的抗寒和耐盐碱能力,是挖掘抗逆基因的优良种质资源。但目前尚未见野大麦遗传转化体系的报道。该研究以蒙农1号杂交野大麦成熟胚为外植体诱导愈伤组织,建立了野大... 野大麦(Hordeum brevisubulatum)为禾本科大麦属多年生草本植物,具有较强的抗寒和耐盐碱能力,是挖掘抗逆基因的优良种质资源。但目前尚未见野大麦遗传转化体系的报道。该研究以蒙农1号杂交野大麦成熟胚为外植体诱导愈伤组织,建立了野大麦高效组培快繁体系,分化率达70%,快繁系数为35。在此基础上,利用根癌农杆菌(Agrobacterium tumefaciens)EHA105菌株侵染筛选获得的高质量愈伤系YZ101,通过优化侵染条件使侵染率接近30%。该体系的建立为野大麦功能基因组研究与分子设计育种奠定了基础。 展开更多

柳枝稷(Panicum virgatum)是重要的C4多年生木质纤维素类生态能饲草。为了快速创制细胞壁转化效率高的能饲草新资源,以异源四倍体柳枝稷品种Alamo为材料,克隆了其木质素合成途径的阿魏酸-5-羟基化酶基因PvF5H,并根据其序列设计编辑靶点... 柳枝稷(Panicum virgatum)是重要的C4多年生木质纤维素类生态能饲草。为了快速创制细胞壁转化效率高的能饲草新资源,以异源四倍体柳枝稷品种Alamo为材料,克隆了其木质素合成途径的阿魏酸-5-羟基化酶基因PvF5H,并根据其序列设计编辑靶点,用于构建CRISPR/Cas9-PvF5H编辑载体,最后通过农杆菌(Agrobacterium tumefaciens)介导的遗传转化方法,获得了59株柳枝稷转基因阳性植株。测序分析表明,PvF5H在94.9%的转基因植株中被编辑,纯合编辑效率为55.4%。该研究建立了高效的柳枝稷基因编辑系统,实现了对细胞壁品质相关靶基因的有效编辑,为今后能饲草新品种的培育奠定了基础。 展开更多

Carbon dots(CDs)have gradually become a widely favored type of fluorescent nanomaterials with unlimited and promising applications.This work reports a means of breaking the shackle of method to develop new red and white CDs by introducing free radicals.The resulting white emissive CDs in this strategy are employed to demonstrate electroluminescent white-light-emitting diodes(WLEDs)and achieve a record-high external quantum efficiency(0.95%)of one-step-produced white CDs(WCD)-LEDs,which dramatically simplifies the whole fabrication processes of WLEDs.With additional passivation treatment,the red CDs(RCD2)with excellent properties such as N and S co-doping,bright(quantum yield=49%)and stable photoluminescence(PL),large positive zeta potential(+20.5 mV),and two-photon fluorescence are obtained.Such RCD2 are used for rapid staining(5 min)of yeast cells.The two CDs synthesized via this method have outstanding performance in different aspects,which provides new promise of CDs for further functionalization and applications. 展开更多

Identification of the high-risk residence communities and possible risk factors of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has become a public health emergency of international concern.It is important to identify high-risk residence communities and the risk factors for decision making on targeted prevention and control measures.In this paper,the number of confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19 in the residence communities in Wuhan,China was collected together with the characteristic variables of the residence communities and the distances between the residence communities and nearby crowded places.The correlation analysis was conducted between the number of confirmed cases and the characteristic/distance variables.Con-cerning the characteristic variables,there are significant positive correlations between the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases and the construction area,covered area,total number of houses,total number of buildings,vol-ume ratio,property charge,and number of second-hand houses in the residence communities in Wuhan,while minor or no correlation is observed for the average price of houses,construction year,greening ratio,or number of sold houses.Concerning the distance variables,there are significant negative correlations between the number of confirmed cases and the distances from the residence communities to the nearest universities,business clus-ters,and railway stations,while minor or no correlation is observed for the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market,kindergartens,primary schools,middle schools,shopping malls,cinemas,subway stations,bus stops,inter-city bus stations,airport,general hospitals,or appointed hospitals for COVID-19 pandemic.Therefore,the residence communities which are newly-built,where the volume ratio or property charge is high or the construction area,covered area,or total number of houses,buildings,second-hand houses,or sold houses is large,or which are close to universities,business clusters,subway stations,or railway stations are the high-risk ones where strict measures should be taken.This study provides the authorities with a valuable reference for precise disease prevention and control on the residence community level in similar cities in the world. 展开更多
