A novel and effective approach was developed to synthesize monodisperse hollow molecularly imprinted polymers (MHMIPs) with unfunctionalized SiO2 spheres in a mixture of toluene and CH3CN. The factors that affected the synthesis of MHMIPs were systematically investigated. It was determined that a suitable ratio of toluene to CH3CN and the use of a functional monomer that can generate double H-bonding interactions were the critical factors to obtain MHMIPs with high uniformity and rnonodispersion. The obtained MHMIPs exhibited a fast adsorption rate and high adsorption capacity (270 μmol/g) for bisphenol A. As the shell thickness increased from 90 nm to 130 nm, the binding capacity of the imprinted shells decreased gradually. The relative selectivity coefficients of MHMIPs for tetra-brornobisphenol A (TBBPA), phenol and p-tert-butylphenol (PTBP) were calculated as 1.53, 1.83 and 1.90, respectively. These findings indicate that MHMIPs have good adsorption performances and suggest applications in the selective removal or sensitive analysis of bisphenol A. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Intracranial tuberculoma is a rare and serious type of tuberculosis, which mostly occurs in the frontoparietal and cerebellar hemispheres, with predominance in the gray-white matter junction area, while tuberculomas only in the cistern are extremely rare with only a few reported cases in the literature. We describe a unique case of isolated tuberculoma in the suprasellar cistern, with only right ocular motility disorder and upper eyelid ptosis.CASE SUMMARY A 5-year-old boy without any medical history presented with right ocular motility disorder and upper eyelid ptosis one month ago.He had no history of fever, headache, vomiting, convulsions,or limb weakness.Neurological examination showed right third cranial nerve palsy with restrictions of eye movements and ptosis, pupil dilation and negative light reflex.Imaging suggested a spaceoccupying lesion in the suprasellar cistern with calcification and ring-enhancement.Moreover,no Mycobacterium tuberculosis was found in cerebrospinal fluid by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).The lesion was initially diagnosed as a tumor, while postoperative pathology combined with PCR indicated tuberculoma. The patient continued postoperative anti-tuberculosis treatment. At present, the patient's condition is stable and the symptoms are partially relieved compared with those before surgery.CONCLUSION This case confirmed that isolated intracranial tuberculoma can occur in the suprasellar cistern. Therefore, for space-occupying lesions in the suprasellar cistern, tuberculoma should be included in the differential diagnosis even if there is no history or indication of tuberculosis infection. 展开更多

Background:There are few studies for evaluating wall characteristics of intracranial vertebral artery hypoplasia (VAH).The aim of this study was to determine wall characteristics of VAH with three-dimensional volumetric isotropic turbo spin echo acquisition (3D VISTA) images and differentiate between acquired atherosclerotic stenosis and VAH.Methods:Thirty patients with suspicious VAH by luminograms were retrospectively enrolled between January 2014 and February 2015.The patients were classified as "acquired atherosclerotic stenosis" or "VAH" based on 3D VISTA images. The wall characteristics of VAH were assessed to determine the presence of atherosclerotic lesions, and the patients were classified into two subgroups (VAH with atherosclerosis and VAH with normal wall).Wall characteristics of basilar arteries and vertebral arteries were also assessed. The clinical and wall characteristics were compared between the two groups. Results:Five of 30 patients with suspicious VAH were finally diagnosed as acquired atherosclerotic stenosis by 3D VISTA images.25 patients were finally diagnosed as VAH including 16 (64.00%) patients with atherosclerosis and 9 (36.00%) patients with normal wall.In the 16 patients with atherosclerosis, plaque was found in 9 patients, slight wall thickening in 6 patients, and thrombus and wall thickening in 1 patient.Compared with VAH patients with normal wall,VAH patients with atherosclerosis showed atherosclerotic basilar arteries and dominant vertebral arteries more frequently (P =0.000).Conclusions:Three-dimensional VISTA images enable differentiation between the acquired atherosclerotic stenosis and VAH.VAH was also prone to atherosclerotic processes. 展开更多

The increasing incidence of morbidly adherent placenta (MAP) is placing women at a higher risk of life-threatening massive hemorrhage. The involvement of interventional radiology to manage this complex condition by performing prophylactic lilac artery balloon occlusion has been reported recently. However, the effectiveness and safety of this technique have not been fully determined. Here we report the case of a 25-year-old woman with placenta increta with preemptive bilateral internal lilac artery balloons who had external lilac artery thrombosis detected by computed tomography angiography (CTA) 72 h post cesarean section. A digital subtraction angiogram (DSA) and intra-arterial thrombolysis were instantly performed followed by supplementary conservative treatments, leading to a desirable resolution, of thrombus without sequela. This is the first report of vascular complications with successful interventional thrombolysis in this setting. Our experience suggests that prophylactic lilac artery balloon occlusion should be used cautiously in cases of MAP and consideration given to minimizing vascular complications given the hypercoagulable state of pregnancy. 展开更多
