To improve our knowledge of the spatio-temporal correspondence between radar reflectivity and VLF/LF total lightning data,this paper proposes indexes to quantify the horizontal distribution and temporal evolution char...To improve our knowledge of the spatio-temporal correspondence between radar reflectivity and VLF/LF total lightning data,this paper proposes indexes to quantify the horizontal distribution and temporal evolution characteristics between radar composite reflectivity images and total lightning density map,lightning clusters and radar cells with different radar reflectivity thresholds(30,35,40,45 and 50 dBZ),respectively.It is found that the number of radar grid cells with radar reflectivity over 30 dBZ is ten times the number of lightning grid cells.At the identification stage,the lightning activity regions in a radar cell account for less than 30%using thresholds of 30,35 and 40 dBZ,respectively,and the radar cell has more than one lightning cluster,which means that the mesoscale convective systems typically have more than one draft,and drafts are only small part of the convection.The majority of the centroid deviations is less than 10 km,indicating that there are some shifts between electrically active regions and convective regions.Results suggest that VLF/LF total lightning data are consistent with radar data and total lightning data can be used individually on a smaller spatio-temporal scale than radar data.展开更多

However, their performance is limited by a short light path and small light–analyte overlap. To address this challenge, silicon-based, slow-lightenhanced gas-sensing techniques offer a promising approach. In this study, we experimentally investigated the slow light characteristics and gas-sensing performance of 1D and 2D photonic crystal waveguides(PCWs) in the near-IR(NIR) region. The proposed 2D PCW exhibited a high group index of up to 114, albeit with a high propagation loss. The limit of detection(LoD) for acetylene(C_(2)H_(2)) was 277 parts per million(ppm) for a1 mm waveguide length and an averaging time of 0.4 s. The 1D PCW shows greater application potential compared to the 2D PCW waveguide, with an interaction factor reaching up to 288%, a comparably low propagation loss of 10 dB/cm, and an LoD of 706 ppm at 0.4 s. The measured group indices of the 2D and 1D waveguides are104 and 16, respectively, which agree well with the simulation results.展开更多
In 2018-2019,two types of rocket-triggered lightning tests,that is,striking to ground and distribution line,were conducted in Guangdong,China.The main focus of this paper is to compare the waveform parameters of the r...In 2018-2019,two types of rocket-triggered lightning tests,that is,striking to ground and distribution line,were conducted in Guangdong,China.The main focus of this paper is to compare the waveform parameters of the return strokes(RS)from the two tests.For current,the 10%-90%risetime of RS from lightning striking to distribution line is 2.4 times higher than that striking to ground,and the differences in the other parameters are small.For close magnetic field,the RS from lightning striking to distribution line have a lower peak(30%lower after considering the peak current)and a larger risetime and half-peak width time;besides,it is necessary to divide the front edge of the close magnetic field waveform into two parts:leader(BL)and return stroke(BRS).For close electric field,the close RS electric field peak(ERS)was less sensitive to distance than the leader electric field peak(EL).For far electric field,the differences in waveform parameters of RS from the two tests were not significant,but after considering the peak current,the normalised initial electric field peak(EP)of RS from lightning striking to distribution line was 14%lower than that striking to ground.展开更多
