Purpose:This research proposes a patent portfolio analysis model based on the legal status information to chart out a competitive landscape in a particular field,enabling organizations to position themselves within the overall technology landscape.Design/methodology/approach:Three indicators were selected for the proposed model:Patent grant rate,valid patents rate and patent maintenance period.The model uses legal status information to perform a qualitative evaluation of relative values of the individual patents,countries or regions’ technological capabilities and competitiveness of patent applicants.The results are visualized by a four-quadrant bubble chart To test the effectiveness of the model,it is used to present a competitive landscape in the lithium ion battery field.Findings:The model can be used to evaluate the values of the individual patents,highlight countries or regions’ positions in the field,and rank the competitiveness of patent applicants in the field.Research limitations:The model currently takes into consideration only three legal status indicators.It is actually feasible to introduce more indicators such as the reason for invalid patents and the distribution of patent maintenance time and associate them with those in the proposed model.Practical implications:Analysis of legal status information in combination of patent application information can help an organization to spot gaps in its patent claim coverage,as well as evaluate patent quality and maintenance situation of its granted patents.The study results can be used to support technology assessment,technology innovation and intellectual property management.Originality/value:Prior studies attempted to assess patent quality or competitiveness by using either single patent legal status indicator or comparative analysis of the impacts of each indicator.However,they are insufficient in presenting the combined effects of the evaluation indicators.Using our model,it appears possible to get a more complete and objective picture of the current competitive situation. 展开更多

Psychosocial Factors for Women Requesting Cesarean Section

Background: Rates of caesarean section are progressively increasing in many parts of the world. As a result of psychosocial factors, there has been an increasing tendency for pregnant women without justifiable medical indications for caesarean section to ask for this procedure in China. The psychosocial factors for requesting cesarean section were analyzed in our study. Methods: A self-made questionnaire and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were administered to evaluate lying-in women’s psychosocial state. Results: The proportion of lying-on women’s age and education degree was different significantly between the two groups (p % vs. 3.42%, p 0.05). By logistic regression, we found that for primipara, higher education degree, anxiety and lacking confidence were the dangerous factors for cesarean, while lower economic degree was a defendant factor. Conclusion: There were five main psychosocial factors such as education degree and economic state, parity, anxiety and confidence of lying-on women affecting the choice of the delivery way. The nulliparous women who feel anxious without confidence in nice economic state, with better education have higher risk to choose cesarean. 展开更多

Exploring remarkable oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)electrocatalysts for regenerative fuel cells and metal-air batteries is highly essential.Herein,a novel non-noble metal-based heterogeneous electrocatalyst with rich defects were successfully synthesized by liquid-liquid interfacial precipitation(LLIP)of fullerene(C_(60))and ferrotetraphenylporphyrin(FeTPP)followed by one step pyrolysis.The obtained product annealed at 700℃(C_(60)/FeTPP-700),when employed as ORR electrocatalyst,revealed a positive halfwave potential(E_(1/2))of 0.877 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE),which was superior to that of the commercial 25%Pt/C.Delightfully,the assembled Zn-air battery(ZAB)using C_(60)/FeTPP-700 as an air-electrode catalyst exhibited a high power density of 153 m W/cm^(2),specific capacity of 668 mAh/g and long-term cycling stability for more than 250 h.Experimental results proved that the excellent electrocatalytic ORR activity of C_(60)/FeTPP-700 would attribute to the synergistic effect between FeN_xsites,Fe_(3)C/Fe nanoparticles and the structure defects.This work provides a feasible and simple method to prepare nonnoble metal-based ORR electrocatalysts for the application of energy storage and conversion. 展开更多
