Study of the Peripheral Blood CD44 Expression in the Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Previous study has demonstrated that the peripheral blood CD44 expression level is related with the clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of lung cancer. The present comment was to investigate the relationship between the peripheral blood CD44 expression level and clinic pathological change in 50 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by flow cytometry method. The results showed that 1) the peripheral blood CD44 expression level in the NSCLC group was higher than that in the benign group (467 ± 15) or the normal group (448 ± 15);2) operation decreased the peripheral blood CD44 expression level in the NSCLC group (533 ± 10 vs. 324 ± 11);3) it also showed same results in NSCLC patients with and without lymph node metastasis (559 ± 12 vs. 477 ± 15) or before and after chemotherapy (550 ± 13 vs. 372 ± 10);4) there were significant differences in the peripheral blood CD44 expression level in non-small cell lung cancer patients of the clinical stage I, II, III and IV (474 ± 14, 526 ± 12, 528 ± 16 and 599 ± 20);And the peripheral blood CD44 expression level was not associated with the clinical pathology parameter including the patient age, gender and tumor size. The data suggested that the peripheral blood CD44 expression level was related with the NSCLC progress, lymphatic metastasis and clinical treatment, and the peripheral blood CD44 expression level as the clinical regular examination should evaluate the progress, lymphatic metastasis and clinical treatment for the patients with NSCLC.

The Clinical Investigation of Pemetrexed Plus Carboplatin as an Active and Tolerable Treatment Plan in Chinese Elderly Patients with Advanced Lung Adenocarcinoma

The standard chemotherapy for Chinese elderly patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains undefined. The study was to evaluate the therapeutic effects as well as side effects of pemetrexed plus carboplatin regimen as the first-line therapy for Chinese elderly patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma. Twenty-three Chinese elderly patients (male 14 and female 9, average age 73.7 years, range 70~81 years) with advanced lung adenocarcinoma received pemetrexed plus carboplatin as the first-line therapy, in detail, pemetrexed 500 mg/m2 and carboplatin AUC 5 mg/ml/m2 were given intravenously on day 1. The treatment was repeated everyday in the 21 days cycle. Therapeutic effects were evaluated at least after two cycles of treatment. The remission rate, disease control rate, time to progression and overall survival were observed. The results showed that all the cases were valid for response evaluation, with the complete remission 0 case, partial remission 8 cases, stabilize disease 9 cases and progression disease 6 cases. The remission rate (including complete remission and partial remission) was 34.8%, disease control rate 73.9%, the time to progression was 5.8 months and the overall survival 13.7 months. There showed the positive relationship between the curative effects (either time to progression or overall survival) and chemotherapy cycles. The main toxicities were bone marrow suppression, nausea and vomiting. There was no chemotherapy-related death. The data suggested that the combination regimen with pemetrexed plus carboplatin is an active and tolerable treatment plan for Chinese elderly patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma, in which the side effects were tolerable and manageable.

Research Progress on Processing and Processing Methods in Salvia miltiorrhiza Production Areas

Salvia miltiorrhiza is one of the 40 most commonly used traditional Chinese medicinal materials in clinics.It is effective in activating blood circulation,removing blood stasis,relieving pain through the meridian,clearing the heart and removing irritations,and cooling blood and eliminating blemishes.Each main production area has developed a unique production method and processing technology,in accordance with local conditions.The processed products included in Chinese Pharmacopoeia are purified and wine-fried S.miltiorrhiza.In addition,the Chinese province’s standards include the vinegar-fried and wine-fried types.S.miltiorrhiza is produced in more areas and is more extensively processed,with large variations in specifications.The challenge in establishing a uniform quality standard affects the clinical application of decoction pieces.This review has explored the books of the past dynasties,summarized the relevant literature published in the past three decades,discussed the processing methods of S.miltiorrhiza,and provided a basis for further research on the processing method of the original sample.In particular,we integrate fresh cut processing as the starting point for in-depth research,discuss the processing technology specifications,and formulate quality product standards.
