Objective: To analyze the outcomes of patients who received TKI immediately after the first-line without progression as maintenance treatment (immediate group) vs. those received delayed treatment upon disease prog...Objective: To analyze the outcomes of patients who received TKI immediately after the first-line without progression as maintenance treatment (immediate group) vs. those received delayed treatment upon disease progression as second-line therapy (delayed group). Methods: The study included 159 no-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who received gefitinib or erlotinib as maintenance treatment in the immediate group (85 patients) or as second-line therapy in the delayed group (74 patients). The primary end point was progression-free survival (PFS). EGFR mutation status was detected using denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC). Results: PFS was 17.3 and 16.4 months in the immediate and delayed groups, respectively (hazard ratio [HR], 0.99; 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 0.69-1.42; P=0.947). In a subgroup analysis that included only patients with EGFR mutation, however, PFS was significantly longer in the immediate group than in the delayed group (HR, 0.48; 95% CI: 0.27-0.85; P=0.012). In patients with wild type EGFR, the risk for disease progression was comparable between the two groups (HR, 1.23; 95% CI: 0.61-2.51; P=0.564). No significant difference was demonstrated between the immediate and delayed group in terms of the overall survival (OS) (26.1 months vs. 21.6 months, respectively; HR=0.53; 95% CI: 0.27 to 1.06; P=0.072). There was also no difference in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups. Conclusions: EGFR TKI maintenance improves PFS in patients with EGFR mutation. Prospectively designed clinical studies that compare TKI immediate vs. delayed treatment after first-line chemotherapy upon disease progression are needed.展开更多

Recently,CoCO3 has attracted enormous attention as anodes for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),benefiting from its high theoretical capacity and simple synthesis.However,the modest electronic conductivity and structural in...Recently,CoCO3 has attracted enormous attention as anodes for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),benefiting from its high theoretical capacity and simple synthesis.However,the modest electronic conductivity and structural instability over cycling hinder its wider applications.To well address the intrinsic issues,we explored a precipitantfree hydrothermal methodology for mass production of spindle-like CoCO3/reduced graphene oxide(S-CoCO3/rGO)toward advanced LIBs as a hybrid anode.The dimethylformamide plays a significant role of"two birds(i.e.,solvent and precipitant)with one stone"in the formation of the S-CoCO3/rGO,greatly improving its practical applicability.The purposeful introduction of rGO nanosheets as a two-dimensional flexible conductive network enhances the conductivity and stability of the S-CoCO3.It is the structural and compositional merits for LIBs that endow the S-CoCO3/rGO with remarkable lithium-storage performance in terms of enhanced interfacial storage capacity,high-rate reversible capacities(803 mAh·g-1 at 2.0 A·g-1)and long-duration capacity retention of 82.1%over 2000 consecutive cycles at 2.0 A·g-1.More significantly,the simple yet efficient avenue here promises enormous commercial prospect of the S-CoCO3/rGO in next-generation LIBs.展开更多

This study com- pares variations in copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) tolerance and accumulation potential among 12 willow clones grown in a nutrient solution treated with 50 pmol/L of Cu or Zn, respectively. The results showed differences in the tolerance and accumulation of Cu and Zn with respect to different species/clones. The biomass variation among clones in response to Cu or Zn exposure ranged from the stimulation of growth to inhibition, and all of the clones tested showed higher tolerance to Cu than to Zn. The clones exhibited less variation in Cu accumulation but larger variation in Zn accumulation. Based on translocation factors, it was found that most of the Cu was retained in the roots and that Zn was more mobile than Cu for all clones. It is concluded that most willow clones are good accumulators of Zn and Cu.展开更多
Zinc(Zn) deficiency and water scarcity are major challenges in rice(Oryza sativa L.) under an intensive rice production system.This study aims to investigate the impact of water-saving management and different Zn ...Zinc(Zn) deficiency and water scarcity are major challenges in rice(Oryza sativa L.) under an intensive rice production system.This study aims to investigate the impact of water-saving management and different Zn fertilization source(ZnSO4 and Zn-EDTA) regimes on grain yield and Zn accumulation in rice grain.Different water managements,continuous flooding(CF),and alternate wetting and drying(AWD) were applied during the rice growing season.Compared with CF,the AWD regime significantly increased grain yield and Zn concentrations in both brown rice and polished rice.Grain yield of genotypes(Nipponbare and Jiaxing27),on the average,was increased by 11.4%,and grain Zn concentration by 3.9% when compared with those under a CF regime.Zn fertilization significantly increased Zn density in polished rice,with a more pronounced effect of ZnSO4 being observed as compared with Zn-EDTA,especially under an AWD regime.Decreased phytic acid content and molar ratio of phytic acid to Zn were also noted in rice grains with Zn fertilization.The above results demonstrated that water management of AWD combined with ZnSO4 fertilization was an effective agricultural practice to elevate grain yield and increase Zn accumulation and bioavailability in rice grains.展开更多
