This study aimed to determine the role of Six2 in HCC and to elucidate the association of Six2 with clinical pathological characteristics. Methods: The expressions of Six2 in HCC tumor, para-tumor tissue and portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) were detected by tissue microarray technique, immunohistochemistry, real-time RT-PCR and West- ern blotting. Chi-square and Kaplan-Meier analysis were used to analyze the correlation between Six2 expression and prognosis of HCC patients. Lentivirus mediated Six2 knockdown, spheroid formation as- say, proliferation assay and subcutaneous tumor implantation were performed to determine the function of Six2. Results: In 274 HCC samples, Six2 was strongly expressed. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that high ex- pression of Six2 was correlated with a shorter overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). More- over, Six2 expression was associated with sex, alpha-fetoprotein, tumor size and portal vein invasion. Six2 was highly expressed in PVTT. Six2 knockdown inhibited HCC cell lines proliferation, migration, and self-renewal in vitro and in vivo. In addition, low-expression of Six2 weakened TGF-β induced Smad4 activation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in HCC cell lines. Conclusions: Elevated Six2 expression in HCC tumor patients was associated with negative prognosis. Upregulated Six2 promoted tumor growth and facilitated HCC metastasis via TGF-β/Smad signal pathway.展开更多

The function of optic nerve and retina was evaluated by the visual evoked potential （VEP） and oscillatory potentials （Ops）. RESULTS： The optic nerve axons were swollen and sparsely aligned, and the lamellar separation and myelin disintegration occurred after 12wk in TS rats. The density of optic nerve axons was 32.23±3.92 （ ys 37.43±4.13, P= 0.0145）, the RGCs density was 1645 ±46 cells/mm^2 （vs 1867±54 cells/mm^2 F=0.0000）, the incidence rate of retinal cells apoptosis was 5.38%±0.53% （ vs 4.75%±0.54%, P= 0.0238）, the amplitude of VEP-P100 was 15.43±2.14 μV （vs 17.67±2.17 μV, P=0.0424）, the latency of VEP-P100 was 69.05v5.34ms （vs 62.43±4.87ms P=0.0143） and the sum amplitude of Ops was 81.05±8.34 μV （Ys 91.67± 10.21 μV, P=0.0280） in TS group and the control group, respectively. BACKGROUND Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome(SRUS)is a rare rectal disorder characterized by bloody mucus in the stool,difficulty in defecation,pain,and anal swelling.To date,the etiology of this syndrome remains not wel...BACKGROUND Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome(SRUS)is a rare rectal disorder characterized by bloody mucus in the stool,difficulty in defecation,pain,and anal swelling.To date,the etiology of this syndrome remains not well understood and the diagnosis is frequently confused with other disorders,making treatment a clinical challenge.CASE SUMMARY A 50-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a 40-d history of bloody mucus in the stool and anal swelling.SRUS was suspected.Rectoscopy revealed a large,severe ulcerous lesion.Histologically,the lesion was characterized as chronic ulcer without clear tumor cells,and the final diagnosis of SRUS was made.The patient was treated with Chinese medicine therapy,with administration of Tong Xie Yao Fang.After 3 wk of treatment,the symptoms improved significantly.At 2-mo follow-up,rectoscopy in a local hospital showed healed ulcer scars without obvious protrusion 3 cm from the anal verge.CONCLUSION Chinese medicine therapy represents a potential treatment of SRUS with predominant rectal bleeding,mucinous discharge,and anal swelling pain.展开更多
The variation of 90 Laminaria gametophyte clones representing the introduced Laminaria japonica （Group 1） and Laminaria Iongissima （Group 2）, the varieties of L. japonica （Group 3） and the varieties derived from...The variation of 90 Laminaria gametophyte clones representing the introduced Laminaria japonica （Group 1） and Laminaria Iongissima （Group 2）, the varieties of L. japonica （Group 3） and the varieties derived from interspecific hybrids （Group 4） was determined with 18 microsatellite markers. The allelic diversity and Nei＇s gene diversity of Group 1 were significantly higher than those of Group 2 （2.9 vs. 1.8 and 0.414 vs. 0.161, respectively）, demonstrating that the variation of the introduced L. japonica is richer than that of L. Iongissima. Both allelic diversity and Nei＇s gene diversity of Group 3 were lower than those of Group 1, indicating that only a portion of variation of L. japonica was incorporated into the varieties of L. japonica. Significant genetic differentiation was detected between four groups and between female （Population 1 ） and male （Population 2） gametophyte clones in each group. The variation among groups accounted for 39.95%, while that among populations accounted for 21.65% of the total. The genetic distance between Group 1 and Group 4 was obviously longer than that between Group 2 and Group 4 （0.686 vs. 0.291）, indicating that maternal gametophyte clone contributed more variation to the hybrids than the paternal gametophyte clone did.展开更多
