Physical activity among older Chinese adults living in urban and rural areas: A review 被引量:6

With an increase in rural-to-urban migration, a rapidly aging population, and the rising risk of developing noncommunicable diseases in China,it is important to understand the epidemiology of physical activity(PA) and health in the context of disease prevention and population health.Despite its public health importance, there is a significant lack of knowledge about PA in older Chinese adults that may hamper primary prevention efforts of health promotion in an increasingly aging population. To fill this gap, this article presents a narrative review of PA in the older Chinese adult population with a special focus on residential settings(i.e., urban and rural). Using existing studies, the review examines overall PA patterns and their correlates and discusses public health implications and future research. Although there are some preliminary indications of urban and rural differences in PA in the aging population in China, continued research efforts are needed to facilitate primary prevention efforts aimed at reducing noncommunicable diseases and promoting an active lifestyle among the largest population of older people in the world. 展开更多

Since their seminal discovery in 2011,two-dimensional(2D)transition metal carbides/nitrides known as MXenes,that constitute a large family of 2D materials,have been targeted toward various applications due to their outstanding electronic properties.MXenes functioning as co-catalyst in combination with certain photocatalysts have been applied in photocatalytic systems to enhance photogenerated charge separation,suppress rapid charge recombination,and convert solar energy into chemical energy or use it in the degradation of organic compounds.The photocatalytic performance greatly depends on the composition and morphology of the photocatalyst,which,in turn,are determined by the method of preparation used.Here,we review the four different synthesis methods(mechanical mixing,self-assembly,in situ decoration,and oxidation)reported for MXenes in view of their application as co-catalyst in photocatalysis.In addition,the working mechanism for MXenes application in photocatalysis is discussed and an outlook for future research is also provided. 展开更多

Dear editor,We noticed recent research that has just been published in Journal of Sport and Health Science(JSHS),comparing the muscular activity patterns in 1-and 2-legged cycling by Park and Caldwell.1 The authors reported that changes in muscle activities with 1-legged pedaling are due to a variety of changes in mechanical aspects of the pedaling motion,including altered crank torque patterns within the crank cycle,decreased pelvis stability,and the need for increased knee and ankle stiffness during the upstroke.The experiment was welldesigned and the discussion was fascinating.However,the testing protocol does not support the significance of the project,as stated in the first sentence of the abstract,“One-legged pedaling is of interest to elite cyclists and clinicians.”Their testing was conducted at 30 revolutions per min(rpm)and 30 watts(W),and both are too low for any kind of mechanical demand for cycling,either competitive sports or rehabilitation.The preferred cadences of experienced cyclists are approximately 85-95 rpm,whereas the most economic cadences are approximately 55-60 rpm. 展开更多

The most single reason that exerted the pressure ... Patient derived xenograft (PDX) is defined as a growth of patients’ tumor in the xenograft setting. The evolution of cancer model in animal has a century old history. The most single reason that exerted the pressure on the traditional animal model of cancer to evolve to PDX is that the traditional models have not delivered as expected and traditional models have not predicted clinical success. In spite of well above 50 drugs developed and approved for oncology over the last several decades, there remains a nirking paucity of clinical success as a reminder that this war on cancer riding on the animal model is far from won. In a backbreaking attempt to analyze the failure, the limitation of the “model” system appeared to be the most rational cause of this shortcoming. It was more of a failure to test a drug rather than a failure to make a drug that stunted our collective growth and success in cancer research. PDX is the product of this age-old failure and its fitness is currently tested in virtually all organ-type solid tumors. This review will present and appraise PDX model in the context of its evolution, its future promise, its limitations and more specifically, the current content of PDX in different solid tumors including breast, lung, colorectal, prostrate, GBM, pancreatic, hepatocellular carcinoma and melanoma. 展开更多

Cobalt and copper recovery from aqueous Co (II) and Cu(II) is one critical step for cobalt and copper wastewaters treatment. Previous tests have primarily examined Cu(II) and Co(II) removal in microbial electro- lysis cells (MECs) with abiotic cathodes and driven by microbial fuel cell (MFCs). However, Cu(II) and Co(II) removal rates were still slow. Here we report MECs with biocathodes and driven by MFCs where enhanced removal rates of 6.0+0.2mg·L^-1·h^-1 for Cu(II) at an initial concentration of 50 mg·L^-1 and 5.3~0.4mg·L^-1·h^-1 for Co(II) at an initial 40 mg· L^-1 were achieved, 1.7 times and 3.3 times as high as those in MECs with abiotic cathodes and driven by MFCs. Species of Cu(II) was reduced to pure copper on the cathodes of MFCs whereas Co(II) was removed associated with microorganisms on the cathodes of the connected MECs. Higher Cu(II) concentrations and smaller working volumes in the cathode chambers of MFCs further improved removal rates of Cu(II) (115.7 mg·L^-1·h^-1) and Co(II) (6.4 mg·L^-1·h^-1) with concomi- tantly achieving hydrogen generation (0.054-0.00 mol·mol^-1 COD). Phylogenetic analysis on the bio- cathodes indicates Proteobacteria dominantly accounted for 67.9% of the total reads, followed by Firmicutes (14.0%), Bacteroidetes (6.1%), Tenericutes (2.5%), Lentisphaerae (1.4%), and Synergistetes (1.0%). This study provides a beneficial attempt to achieve simultaneous enhanced Cu(II) and Co(II) removal, and efficient Cu(II) and Co(II) wastewaters treatment without any external energy consumption. 展开更多

Typically,relief generation from an input 3D scene is limited to either bas-relief or high-relief modeling.This paper presents a novel unified scheme for synthesizing reliefs guided by the geometric texture richness of 3D scenes;it can generate both basand high-reliefs.The type of relief and compression coefficient can be specified according to the user’s artistic needs.We use an energy minimization function to obtain the surface reliefs,which contains a geometry preservation term and an edge constraint term.An edge relief measure determined by geometric texture richness and edge z-depth is utilized to achieve a balance between these two terms.During relief generation,the geometry preservation term keeps local surface detail in the original scenes,while the edge constraint term maintains regions of the original models with rich geometric texture.Elsewhere,in highreliefs,the edge constraint term also preserves depth discontinuities in the higher parts of the original scenes.The energy function can be discretized to obtain a sparse linear system.The reliefs are obtained by solving it by an iterative process.Finally,we apply non-linear compression to the relief to meet the user’s artistic needs.Experimental results show the method’s effectiveness for generating both bas-and high-reliefs for complex 3D scenes in a unified manner. 展开更多
