Acupuncture enhances anticancer effects of cyclophosphamide on 4T1 tumors via suppression of angiogenesis in BALB/c mice 被引量:1

Objective:Acupuncture is considered an important part of the alternative medical treatment of tumors.However,it is still unclear whether acupuncture has a direct effect on inhibition of tumor growth.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of acupuncture treatment on tumors in BALB/c mice that were or were not administered cyclophosphamide.Methods:A 4T1 breast carcinoma mouse model for this study was established.When the mice developed 5 mm × 5 mm visible subcutaneous tumors,they were subjected to acupuncture and/or cyclophosphamide (CTX) treatment for 15 days.Results:Acupuncture and CTX treatment both reduced the size of the solid tumors.When used in conjunction,the tumor size reduction was even more obvious.Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed that acupuncture had a significant effect on induction of tumor cell necrosis and inhibition of angiogenesis.Immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of CD34 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9),which were related to angiogenesis,decreased after treatment with either acupuncture or CTX.However,when the two treatments were used in conjunction,they showed a synergistic effect on inhibiting the expression of CD34.However,the synergistic effect was not observed onMvMP-9 expression.Conclusion:Acupuncture plays an important role in improving the effect of chemotherapy by inhibiting angiogenesis. 展开更多

Rapid maxillary expansion(RME),as a common treatment for craniomaxillofacial deformity,faces the challenge of high relapse rates and unsatisfactory therapeutic effects.In this study,a standardized Sprague-Dawley(SD)rat RME model was first established with a modified expander as well as retainer design and optimized anterior maxillary expanding force of 100 g which exerted the most synchronized mobility of mid-palatal suture and incisors.Via the standardized model,the high relapse rate was proven to be attributed to insufficient osteogenesis in expanded suture,requiring long-term retainer wearing in clinical situations.To reduce the relapse rate,mesoporous bioactive glass/fibrin glue(MBG/FG)composite hydrogels were developed for an in situ minimal invasive injection that enhance osteogenesis in the expanded palate.The component of 1 wt%MBG was adopted for enhanced mechanical strength,matched degradation rate and ion dissolution,excellent in vitro biocompatibility and osteoinductivity.Effects of 1%MBG/FG composite hydrogel on osteogenesis in expanded mid-palatal sutures with/without retention were evaluated in the standardized model.The results demonstrated that injection of 1%MBG/FG composite hydrogel significantly promoted bone formation within the expanded mid-palatal suture,inhibited osteoclastogenesis and benefited the balance of bone remodeling towards osteogenesis.Combination of retainer and injectable biomaterial was demonstrated as a promising treatment to reduce relapse rate and enhance osteogenesis after RME.The model establishment and the composite hydrogel development in this article might provide new insight to other craniomaxillofacial deformity treatment and design of bone-repairing biomaterials with higher regenerative efficiency. 展开更多

As an advanced process detection technology, electrical impedance tomography(EIT) has wide application prospects and advantages in medical imaging diagnosis. However, a series of issues need to be addressed before applying EIT for bedside monitoring. Medical diagnosis and bedside monitoring are dynamic measuring process, where the positions of measuring electrodes and the shape of the detected field are changing dynamical. Due to the inability to cope with the changeable electrode positions and various dynamic fields, existing EIT systems are mainly used for industrial detection in condition of static measurement and visualization. In this paper, we investigate the dynamic measurement and visualization of human breast in EIT field, describe the design of the measuring sensor system, and expound the measuring principle. The main component of the hardware system is a builtin servo electrical resistance tomography sensor with capacitive sliding rod, which can adapt to the crowd of different chest contour and the change of chest shape in the dynamic process of breathing.The corresponding measuring principle is extracting all real-time positions of measuring electrodes,then obtaining the dynamic boundary, finally dividing the detection field rapidly. Experimental results confirmed that the proposed system can obtain real-time location of boundary sensor and dynamically solve the problem of arbitrary-shape boundary measurement. The imaging results validate the availability of designed sensor system and the effectiveness of the corresponding measuring principle. 展开更多
