Netrin-1 and its receptors play crucial roles in inducing axonal growth and neuronal migration during neuronal development.Their profound impacts then extend into adulthood to encompass the maintenance of neuronal survival and synaptic function.Increasing amounts of evidence highlight several key points:(1)Diminished Netrin-1 levels exacerbate pathological progression in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease,and potentially,similar alterations occur in humans.(2)Genetic mutations of Netrin-1 receptors increase an individuals’susceptibility to neurodegenerative disorders.(3)Therapeutic approaches targeting Netrin-1 and its receptors offer the benefits of enhancing memory and motor function.(4)Netrin-1 and its receptors show genetic and epigenetic alterations in a variety of cancers.These findings provide compelling evidence that Netrin-1 and its receptors are crucial targets in neurodegenerative diseases.Through a comprehensive review of Netrin-1 signaling pathways,our objective is to uncover potential therapeutic avenues for neurodegenerative disorders. 展开更多

Provenance of colorless and brown volcanic glass in late Pleistocene tephra layers in the Western Philippine Sea

Tephra layers in the western Philippine Sea,characterized by abundant volcanic glass shards,may provide crucial evidence on the eruption history of volcanoes and tectonic evolution of the western Pacific.A 220-ka sediment core from the Benham Rise in the western Philippine Sea offers new insights into the provenance of four intercalated tephra layers(T1–T4,in chronological order)containing either colorless or brown glass shards.Relative to primitive mantle,all glass shards are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements,such as Rb,Cs,and Pb,and depleted in high field-strength elements,such as Th,Nb,and Ta,indicating a subduction-related origin.The colorless glass shards are characterized by high SiO_(2)(>78%)and light rare earth element(LREE)contents as well as high La/Sm ratios(>9),low FeO and MgO contents(<1%),low Sr/Y(<15)and high Ba/Th ratios(>100),pointing to a rhyolitic composition and a medium-K calc-alkaline serial affinity.In contrast,the brown glass shards are characterized by lower SiO_(2)(<63%)and LREE contents,higher FeO,MgO,and CaO contents,lower La/Sm(<6)and Ba/Th(<75),and similar Sr/Y ratios(<15),indicating derivation from medium to high-K calc-alkaline andesite magma.Brown glass shards from layers T3(152 ka)and T4(172 ka)were correlated with volcanic deposits from the Taal and Laguna Caldera in the Maccolod Corridor,respectively,while the colorless glass shards from layers T1(36.5 ka)and T2(61.2 ka)were likely sourced from the Irosin Caldera in the Bicol Arc.Establishing the provenance of late Pleistocene tephra layers in the western Philippine Sea is helpful to complement a Philippine volcanic history and establish a regional tephrochronostratigraphy. 展开更多

Diesel poisoning is a rare clinical condition.On September 27,2021,a 55-year-old male who mistakenly inhaled 20 mL of diesel through a siphon was admitted to our hospital.The main symptoms were cough and asthma.Chest computed tomography(CT)showed both lungs scattered with patchy consolidation,ground-glass shadow,exudation,and pleural effusion.After 61 days of lung rehabilitation training and other supportive treatment,including oxygen therapy,postural drainage,ventilator support,bronchoalveolar lavage,hemoperfusion,continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT),hormones,and antibiotics,the patient’s condition improved,and the patient was discharged.Through literature review,we found that lung consolidation,ground-glass shadow,nodular lesions,and pleural effusion can be observed on chest images of patients with lipoid pneumonia,with severe cases showing diffuse lesions involving both lungs,possibly secondary to respiratory failure.Children with acute critical illness deteriorates rapidly and have poor prognosis,whereas adults or patients with chronic poisoning have better prognosis after active treatment. 展开更多

Novel composite magnetic microspheres containing chitosan and quaternary ammonium chitosan derivative(CHMMs) were prepared by inverse suspension method,and used for the methyl orange(MO) removal from aqueous solutions.The CHMMs were characterized by a scanning electron microscope,a transmission electron microscope,and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,respectively.Compared with the chitosan beads,the incorporation of quaternary ammonium chitosan derivative significantly reduced the particle size.The MO adsorption by CHMMs was investigated by batch adsorption experiments.The adsorption kinetics was conformed to the pseudo second-order kinetics equation.The adsorption isotherm followed the Langmuir model better than the Freundlich model and the calculated maximum MO adsorption capacity was 266.6 mg·g^-1 at 293 K.Thermodynamic studies indicated that the MO adsorption was endothermic in nature with the enthalpy change(△H°) of 99.44 kJ·mol^-1.The CHMMs had a stable performance for MO adsorption in the pH range of 4-10,but high ionic strength deteriorated the MO removal due to the shielding of the ion exchange interaction.A 1 mol·L^-1 NaCl solution could be used to regenerate the exhausted CHMMs.The proposed CHMMs can be used as an effective adsorbent for dye removal or recovery from the dye wastewater. 展开更多

Objective: Crizotinib has demonstrated promising efficacy in patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase(ALK)-positive non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC) in clinical trials. We conducted this retrospective multicenter study to assess the outcomes of crizotinib therapy in, to our knowledge, a large sample cohort of patients with ALKpositive advanced NSCLC.Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 484 unselected ALK-positive NSCLC patients treated with crizotinib at 5 cancer centers in China from January 2013 to November 2017. Clinical data were collected from the initiation of crizotinib therapy to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors(RECIST)-defined progressive disease(PD).Results: A total of 428 eligible ALK-positive NSCLC patients were enrolled, 273(63.8%) of whom received crizotinib as first-line treatment. The median progression-free survival(PFS) and overall survival(OS) from the initiation of crizotinib treatment were 14.4 [95% confidence interval(95% CI), 12.4-16.4] months and 53.4(95%CI, 33.7-73.1) months, respectively. In subgroup analyses, patients who received crizotinib as first-line treatment showed a higher disease control rate(DCR) and a longer median OS compared with second-/later-line crizotinib treatment(94.8% and OS not reached vs. 89.0% and 40.5 months, respectively). For 261 patients with RECISTdefined PD, multivariate Cox analysis revealed that in patients who received first-line crizotinib therapy, continued crizotinib beyond progressive disease(CBPD) and next-generation ALK inhibitors after crizotinib failure were associated with improved survival.Conclusions: This study has demonstrated the clinically meaningful benefit of crizotinib treatment in a large cohort of Chinese ALK-positive NSCLC patients. CBPD and next-generation ALK inhibitor treatment may provide improved survival after RECIST-defined progression on crizotinib. 展开更多

Magnetic ion exchange(MIEX) resins have received considerable attention in drinking water treatment due to their fast and efficient removal of dissolved organic carbon(DOC). Two types of mechanisms, i.e., ion exchange,reversible and irreversible adsorption, may occur during pollutants removal by MIEX. This work examined the removal mechanism of 17α-Ethinylestradiol(EE2) by MIEX. As one of typical estrogen micro-pollutants,EE2 existed as neutral molecule in natural water, and its charge density was close to zero [(0.00000219 ±0.00000015) meq·(μg EE2)^(-1)] based on the potentiometric titration method. However, the removal of EE2 by MIEX was much higher than that of other micro-pollutants previously reported. Multi-cycle adsorptionregeneration experiments and ion exchange stoichiometry analysis were conducted to elucidate the removal mechanism of EE2 by MIEX resin. The results suggested that the main removal mechanism of EE2 by MIEX was ion exchange instead of reversible micro-pore adsorption. The experimental analysis based on Donnan theory indicated that the internal micro-environment of resin beads was alkaline, in the alkaline environment EE2 would be ionized into negatively charged groups. As a result, ion exchange reaction occurred inside the pore of MIEX resin, and the removal process of EE2 by MIEX was dominated by the ion exchange reaction. 展开更多

The result shows that the melt samples have shear thinning behavior and thixotropic. The chocolates’ viscosities decrease with temperature increasing. The flow of melt chocolates follows Casson equation. The whole tanδ of chocolate is greater than 1, which indicates that the viscous composition is more than the elastic elements. The stress of Dove and Leconte changes rapidly compared with that of Toblerone and Cote Dor. Dove and Leconte have higher yield stress and anti-deformation ability than Toblerone and Cote Dor. The tanδ of Toblerone and Cote Dor is higher than that of the other two chocolates. This result shows that Toblerone and Cote Dor have a higher proportion of sticky ingredients. By the sensory properties, Dove and Leconte have higher overall acceptability. 展开更多

In this work, a novel catalyst of Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@Yb_2O_3 was prepared and the degradation of thymol in reverse osmosis concentrate using ozonation was explored. The operational parameters, such as ozone dosage(8–48 mg·min^(-1)),initial thymol concentration(20–100 mg·L^(-1)), initial pH value(3–11), and catalyst Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@Yb_2O_3dosage(0.2–1.0 g), were studied focusing on the thymol degradation and COD removal. The results indicated that the increase in ozone dosage, initial p H value, and Fe_3O_4@SiO_2@Yb_2O_3dosage accelerated the thymol degradation and COD removal, while the increase in initial thymol concentration hampered the effect of ozonation. A pathway of thymol degradation by catalytic ozonation was proposed based on the intermediates detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometer and ion chromatography. This paper can provide basic data and technical alternative for pollutant removal from reverse osmosis concentrate by ozonation. 展开更多

The infectious template-mediated protein conversion is a unique mechanism for the onset of rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorders known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, or prion diseases, which affect humans and other animal species. However, emerging studies are now demonstrating prion-like mechanisms of self-propagation of protein misfolding in a number of common, non-infectious neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. It has been proposed that distinct and unrelated proteins(beta-amyloid, tau, α-synuclein, TAR DNA-binding protein 43 and huntingtin, etc.) associated with common neurodegenerative disorders can seed conversion and spread via cellto-cell transfer, sustaining the transmission of neurotoxic agents along a stereotypic route, sharing features at the heart of the intrinsic nature of prions. Here we review the most recent development on both the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of prion-like neurodegenerative diseases as well as innovative methods and strategies for potential therapeutic applications. 展开更多

The Richtmyer–Meshkov instability at the interface of solid state tin material and xenon gases under cylinder geometry is studied in this paper. The experiments were conducted at FP-1 facility in Institute of Fluid Physics, China Academy of Engineering Physics(CAEP). The FP-1 facility is a pulsed power driver which could generate high amplitude magnetic field to drive metal liner imploding. Convergent shock wave was generated by impacting a magnetic-driven aluminium liner onto a inner mounted tin liner. The convergent evolution of the disturbance pre-machined onto the tin liner's inner surface was diagnosed by x-radiography. The spike amplitudes were derived from x-ray frames and were compared with linear theory.An analytical model containing material strength effect was derived and matched well to the experimental results. This sensibility of the disturbance evolution to material strength property shines light to the application of Richtmyer–Meshkov instability to infer material strength. 展开更多

Understanding the habitat shifting pattern is a prerequisite for implementing in situ conservation of migratory species.Spotted seals(Phoca largha)inhabiting the Yellow Sea ecoregion(YSE)comprise a small population with independent genes and represent a charismatic flagship species in this region.However,this population has declined by 80%since the 1940s,and increased support from the countries around the YSE is urgently needed to address the potential local extinction risk.A time-series niche model and life-history weighted systematic conservation planning were designed on the basis of a satellite beacon tracking survey(2010–2020)of the YSE population.The results showed clustering and spreading shifting patterns during the breeding and migratory seasons,respectively.The closed-loop migration route formed in the YSE indicated that this population might be geographically isolated from populations in other breeding areas around the world.The conservation priority area(CPA),with an area of 19632 km^(2)(3.58%of the total YSE area),was the most effective response to the potential in situ risk.However,nearly 80%of the CPA was exposed outside the existing marine protected areas(MPAs).Future establishment of MPAs in China should strategically consider the conservation gap identified herein,and it is recommended for Korea’s closed fishing season to be spatially set in the western Korean Peninsula from May to August.This study also exemplified that the lack of temporal information would lead to the dislocation of niche modeling for migratory species represented by spotted seals.Attention should be paid to protecting small and migratory populations in marine biodiversity conservation planning. 展开更多

Here, the two-thirds ... Glycogen accumulating organisms(GAOs) are closely related to the deterioration of enhanced biological phosphorus removal systems. However, the metabolic mechanisms that drive GAOs remain unclear. Here, the two-thirds supernatant of a reactor were decanted following the anaerobic period to enrich GAOs. Long-term monitoring demonstrated that the system was stable and exhibited typical characteristics of GAOs metabolism. Acetate was completely consumed after 60 min of the anaerobic phase. The level of glycogen decreased from 0.20 to 0.14 g/gSS during the anaerobic phase, whereas the level of glycogen significantly increased to 0.21g/gSS at the end of the aerobic period. Moreover, there was almost no phosphate release and absorption in the complete periods, thus confirming the successful construction of a GAOs enrichment system. Microbial community analysis demonstrated that Ca. Contendobacter was among the core functional genera and showed the highest activity among all of the communities. Furthermore, our study is the first to identify the involvement of the ethyl-malonyl-CoA pathway in the synthesis of polyhydroxyvalerate via croR, ccr, ecm, mcd, mch and mcl genes. The Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas(EMP) pathway was preferentially used via glgP. Furthermore, the glyoxylate cycle was the main source of ATP under anaerobic conditions, whereas the tricarboxylic acid cycle provided ATP under aerobic conditions. aceA and mdh appeared to be major modulators of the glyoxylate pathway for controlling energy flow. Collectively, our findings not only revealed the crucial metabolic mechanisms in a GAOs enrichment system but also provided insights into the potential application of Ca. Contendobacter for wastewater treatment. 展开更多

土壤全磷含量高而速效磷含量不足严重制约盐碱地区磷的高效利用。虽然耐盐碱解磷菌可以溶解不溶性磷,但很少有研究关注其在植物生长中的应用。我们从盐碱地区鸟粪中分离到一株解磷菌,鉴定命名为Bacillus sp.DYS211,并对其生长特性和耐... 土壤全磷含量高而速效磷含量不足严重制约盐碱地区磷的高效利用。虽然耐盐碱解磷菌可以溶解不溶性磷,但很少有研究关注其在植物生长中的应用。我们从盐碱地区鸟粪中分离到一株解磷菌,鉴定命名为Bacillus sp.DYS211,并对其生长特性和耐盐碱能力进行了测定。为研究解磷菌对植物种子萌发和生长的影响,在盐地碱蓬中进行解磷菌添加的盆栽试验。该解磷菌菌株在培养前12 h生长迅速,48 h时溶磷量最大,达到258.22 mg L^(−1)。耐盐碱性和解磷能力试验表明,DYS211倾向于溶解无机磷,为嗜盐菌,在1%–8%盐度条件下具有良好的解磷效果(有效磷含量>150 mg L^(−1))。在葡萄糖和蔗糖(C源)以及硫酸铵、硝酸铵和酵母浸膏粉(N源)中均表现出较好的解磷能力。在促生长试验中,该解磷菌对种子萌发有促进作用,特别是在高盐胁迫下,促进率为8.33%。在盐碱条件下,解磷菌均能显著提高盐地碱蓬的株高和生物量(最高可达3倍),且高盐胁迫下茎粗增加。该菌株表现出在盐碱地区植被恢复中的潜力。 展开更多
