Rockburst proneness considering energy characteristics and sample shape effects

Accurate prediction of rockburst proneness is one of challenges for assessing the rockburst risk and selecting effective control measures.This study aims to assess rockburst proneness by considering the energy characteristics and qualitative information during rock failure.Several representative rock types in cylindrical and cuboidal sample shapes were tested under uniaxial compression conditions and the failure progress was detected by a high-speed camera.The far-field ejection mass ratio(FEMR)was determined considering the qualitative failure information of the rock samples.The peak-strength energy impact index and the residual elastic energy index were used to quantitatively evaluate the rockburst proneness of both cylindrical and cuboidal samples.Further,the performance of these two indices was analyzed by comparing their estimates with the FEMR.The results show that the accuracy of the residual elastic energy index is significantly higher than that of the peak-strength energy impact index.The residual elastic energy index and the FEMR are in good agreement for both cylindrical and cuboidal rock materials.This is because these two indices can essentially reflect the common energy release mechanism characterized by the mass,ejection velocity,and ejection distance of rock fragments.It suggests that both the FEMR and the residual elastic energy index can be used to accurately measure the rockburst proneness of cylindrical and cuboidal samples based on uniaxial compression test. 展开更多

Experiments on rockburst proneness of pre-heated granite at different temperatures: Insights from energy storage, dissipation and surplus 被引量:8

Many underground engineering projects show that rockburst can occur in rocks at great depth and high temperature, and temperature is a critical factor affecting the intensity of rockburst. In general, temperature can affect the energy storage, dissipation, and surplus in rock. To explore the influence of temperature on the energy storage and dissipation characteristics and rockburst proneness, the present study has carried out a range of the uniaxial compression(UC) and single-cyclic loading-unloading uniaxial compression(SCLUC) tests on pre-heated granite specimens at 20℃-700℃. The results demonstrate that the rockburst proneness of pre-heated granite initially increases and subsequently decreases with the increase of temperature. The temperature of 300℃ has been found to be the threshold for rockburst proneness. Meanwhile, it is found that the elastic strain energy density increases linearly with the total input strain energy density for the pre-heated granites, confirming that the linear energy property of granite has not been altered by temperature. According to this inherent property, the peak elastic strain energy of pre-heated granites can be calculated accurately. On this basis, utilising the residual elastic energy index, the rockburst proneness of pre-heated granite can be determined quantitatively. The obtained results from high to low are: 317.9 k J/m^(3)(300℃), 264.1 k J/m^(3)(100℃), 260.6 k J/m^(3)(20℃), 235.5 k J/m^(3)(500℃), 158.9 k J/m^(3)(700℃), which are consistent with the intensity of actual rockburst for specimens. In addition, the relationship between temperature and energy storage capacity(ESC) of granite was discussed, revealing that high temperature impairs ESC of rocks, which is essential for reducing the rockburst proneness. This study provides some new insights into the rockburst proneness evaluation in high-temperature rock engineering. 展开更多

In the face of growing environmental pollution, developing a fuel-cell-driven shunting locomotive is a great challenge in China for environmental protection and energy saving, which combines the environmental advantages of an electric locomotive with the lower infrastructure costs of a diesel-electric locomotive. In this paper, the investigation status and the development trend of the fuel-cell-driven shunting locomotive were introduced. Through innovation of the power system using fuel cells, an experiment prototype of a fuel-cell shunting locomotive was developed, which would reduce the effects on the environment of the existing locomotives. This was the first locomotive to use a proton exchange membrane fuel-cell (PEMFC) power plant in China. From October 2012, we started to test the fuel-cell power plant and further test runs on the test rail-line in Chengdu, Sichuan. The achieved encouraging results can provide fundamental data for the modification of the current individual fuel cell locomotives or further development of the fuel-cell hybrid ones in China. 展开更多

Air flow control is one of the most important control methods for maintaining the stability and reliability of a fuel cell system, which can avoid oxygen starvation or oxygen saturation. The oxygen excess ratio (OER) is often used to indicate the air flow condition. Based on a fuel cell system model for vehicles, OER performance was analyzed for different stack currents and temperatures in this paper, and the results show that the optimal OER was affected weakly by the stack temperature. In order to ensure the system working in optimal OER, a control scheme that includes an optimal OER regulator and a fuzzy control was proposed. According to the stack current, a reference value of air flow rate was obtained with the optimal OER regulator and then the air compressor motor voltage was controlled with the fuzzy controller to adjust the air flow rate provided by the air compressor. Simulation results show that the control method has good dynamic and static characteristics. 展开更多

Numerical Analysis of Reinforcement Structure Stability Based on the Stress State of Geogrid

Based on the friction reinforced mechanism, the geogrids play the role of anti-shear and anti-pulling. So the indexes of interface strength identified by shear and tensile tests?are?usually used to conduct the stability analysis of reinforced structure. At present, the same indexes of interface strength?areadopted in the stability analysis of reinforced structure, where only one of the anti-shearing action or anti-pulling effect of geogrid is considered, which is separated from the practical stress state of geogrids and has certain limitation. To solve the problem, the paper adjusts the interface indexes of geogrids based on the potential sliding surface and the stress state of geogrids when the failure happens. So the method of stability analysis is concluded where cyclic iterative analysis is carried out till the interface characters of geogrids and the unstable mode of the whole structure are the same. The calculation examples of reinforced soil slope in the paper shows that the method can fully reflect the reinforcement of geogrids and can complete the adoption of numerical method in the stability analysis of reinforcement structure. 展开更多

Tropane alkaloids(TAs),which are anticholinergic agents,are an essential class of natural compounds,and there is a growing demand for TAs with anesthetic,analgesic,and spasmolytic effects.Anisodus acutan-gulus(Solanaceae)is a TA-producing plant that was used as an anesthetic in ancient China.In this study,we assembled a high-quality,chromosome-scale genome of A.acutangulus with a contig N50 of 7.4 Mb.A recent whole-genome duplication occurred in A.acutangulus after its divergence from other Solanaceae species,which resulted in the duplication of ADC1 and UGT genes involved in TA biosynthesis.The catalytic activities of H6H enzymes were determined for three Solanaceae plants.On the basis of evolution and co-expressed genes,AaWRKY11 was selected for further analyses,which revealed that its encoded tran-scription factor promotes TA biosynthesis by activating AaH6H1 expression.Thesefindings provide useful insights into genome evolution related to TA biosynthesis and have potential implications for genetic manipulation of TA-producing plants. 展开更多

Strong coupling between plasmons and multiple different exciton states(MESs)enables the creation of multiple hybrid polariton states under ambient conditions.These hybrid states possess unique optical properties different from those of their separate identities,making them ideal candidates for exploiting room-temperature multimode hybridization and multiqubit operation.In this study,we revealed the static spectral response properties of plasmon-MES strong coupling via a fully quantum mechanics approach.These theoretical predictions were experimentally demonstrated in plasmonic nanocavities containing two and three different exciton species.Additionally,the dynamical absorption processes of such strong coupling systems were investigated,and results indicated that the damping of the hybrid polariton states induced by the strong coupling could be markedly modulated by the acoustic oscillations from the plasmonic nanocavities.Our findings contribute a theoretical approach for accurately describing the plasmon-MES interactions and a platform for developing the high-speed active plasmonic devices based on multiqubit strong coupling. 展开更多

Current applications using single unmanned vehicle have been gradually extended to multiple ones due to their increased efficiency in mission accomplishment, expanded coverage areas and ranges, as well as enhanced system reliability. This paper presents a flocking control method with application to a fleet of unmanned quadrotor helicopters (UQHs). Three critical characteristics of formation keeping, collision avoidance, and velocity matching have been taken into account in the algorithm development to make it capable of accomplishing the desired objectives (like forest/pipeline surveillance) by safely and efficiently operating a group of UQHs. To achieve these, three layered system design philosophy is considered in this study. The first layer is the flocking controller which is designed based on the kinematics of UQH. The modified Cucker and Smale model is used for guaranteeing the convergence of UQHs to flocking, while a repelling force between each two UQHs is also added for ensuring a specified safety distance. The second layer is the motion controller which is devised based on the kinetics of UQH by employing the augmented state-feedback control approach to greatly minimize the steady-state error. The last layer is the UQH system along with its actuators. Two primary contributions have been made in this work: first, different from most of the existing works conducted on agents with double integrator dynamics, a new flocking control algorithm has been designed and implemented on a group of UQHs with nonlinear dynamics. Furthermore, the constraint of fixed neighbouring distance in formation has been relaxed expecting to significantly reduce the complexity caused by the increase of agents number and provide more flexibility to the formation control. Extensive numerical simulations on a group of UQH nonlinear models have been carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Background:Anisodus acutangulus(Solanaceae),an important folk medicinal herb in China,produces up to 1.2%alkaloids more than that in other Solanaceae plants such as Hyoscyamus niger,while its evolutionary position in Hyoscyameae is not very clear.Objective:To explain the evolutionary position of A.acutangulus in the Solanaceae via complete chloroplast genome(cp)sequence.Methods:Complete chloroplast genome of A.acutangulus was obtained and characterized using the Illumina PE150 pair-end sequencing data.Structure of the genome,codon usage,nucleotide variability(Pi)value,distribution of repeats and SSRs between A.acutangulus and other seven Solanaceae species were analyzed.Previously published 22 Solanaceae cp genomes were used to construct phylogenetic tree.Results:The complete cp genome of A.acutangulus is 156082 bp in length,showed the typical quadripartite structure.The complete cp genome of A.acutangulus was highly conserved.A total of 112 unique genes were found in cp genome of A.acutangulus,among which 17 were duplicated.Further,we found eight hotspot regions for genome divergence could be explored as new DNA barcodes for the identification of the Solanaceae species.Phylogenetic analysis showed that A.acutangulus formed a clade with H.niger.Conclusion:A.acutangulus belongs to Hyoscyameae subfamily and the complete cp genome provides valuable information for phylogenetic reconstruction or comparative genomics of A.acutangulus. 展开更多
