Objective: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are important regulators that play a key role in tumorigenesis and rumor progression. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is involved in invasion and metastasis in many tumors. In this study, we investigated the microRNAs (miRNA) profiles altered by TGF-β1 in gastric cancer (GC) cells. Methods: We detected the expression profiles of miRNA by miRNA microarray and quantitative real- time polymerase chain reaction. Migration and invasion, wound-healing assay, prediction of miRNA targets, Western blot and qRT-PCR analysis were carried out to determine the role of one selected miRNA, namely miR-193b, in affecting the biological behaviors of GC BGC823 cells. Results: Among 847 human miRNAs in the microarray, three miRNAs (miR-27a, miR-29b-1 and miR-194) were up-regulated and three (miR-574-3p, miR-193b and miR-130b) were down-regulated in BGC823 cells treated with TGF-β1 compared with control, miR-193b suppressed the invasion and metastasis of GC cells in vivo and in vitro, and down-regulated urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) protein in GC cells. Conclusions: TGF-β1 altered miRNA expression profile in BGC823 cells. Among the altered miRNAs, TGF-β1 induced the down-regulation of miR-193b, which inhibited cell invasion and metastasis in vivo and in vitro, and down-regulated uPA protein in GC cells. 展开更多

Encoding information in light polarization is of great importance in facilitating optical data storage(ODS)for information security and data storage capacity escalation. However, despite recent advances in nanophotonic techniques vastly en-hancing the feasibility of applying polarization channels, the data fidelity in reconstructed bits has been constrained by severe crosstalks occurring between varied polarization angles during data recording and reading process, which gravely hindered the utilization of this technique in practice. In this paper,we demonstrate an ultra-low crosstalk polarization-en-coding multilayer ODS technique for high-fidelity data recording and retrieving by utilizing a nanofibre-based nanocom-posite film involving highly aligned gold nanorods(GNRs).With parallelizing the gold nanorods in the recording medium, the information carrier configuration minimizes miswriting and misreading possibilities for information input and output, respectively, compared with its randomly self-assembled counterparts. The enhanced data accuracy has significantly im-proved the bit recall fidelity that is quantified by a correlation coefficient higher than 0.99.It is anticipated that the demon-strated technique can facilitate the development of multiplexing ODS for a greener future. 展开更多

A series of complexes of europium (III)/gadolinium (III) with 2-thienyltrifluoroacetonate (HTTA), terephthalic acid (TPA) and phenanthroline (Phen) were synthesized by coprecipitation. The resulting complexes including Eu2(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2, Eu1.4Gd0.6(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2, Eu1.0Gd1.0(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2 and Eu0.8Gd1.2(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermal stability analysis. The results of analysis indicate that the complexes obtained have similar binuclear structure with each other. The thermal stability analysis indicates that the complexes Eu2(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2and Eu1.0Gd1.0(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2 possess good thermal stability, which melt at ~241°C and decompose at ~370°C - 430°C corresponding to the formation of the complexes. The fluorescence spectra of Eu2(1-x)Gd2x(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2 (x = 0 - 1) complex powders and their doped silica gels were studied. The co-fluorescence effect of Gd3+ ions in complex powders is different from that of their doped silica gels. The optimum concentration of Gd3+ for complex powders and their doped silica gels is 0.5 and 0.3 (molar fraction), respectively. The co-fluorescence distinction of Gd3+ ions for complex powders and their doped silica gels is preferably interpreted from the proposed binuclear structure together with monomolecular compositions of the complexes for the first time. Both intermolecular energy transfer and intra molecular energy transfer in cross binuclear monomolecular EuGd(TPA)(TTA)4Phen2 are thought to be responsible for the co-fluorescence effect of the complex powders;yet only the latter is thought to be responsible for the co-fluorescence effect in silica gels, for the complex molecules in this case are isolated from each other. 展开更多

Experiments were carried out to investigate the boiling heat transfer characteristics of Al_2O_3-water nanofluids in swirl microchannels under terrestrial gravity and acceleration fields. A centrifuge with a two-meter long rotational arm was used to simulate the acceleration magnitude up to 9 g and three various acceleration directions. Three test sections with different geometric parameters were applied. The volume concentration of Al_2O_3 nanoparticles with an average diameter of 13 nm was varied from 0.07% to 0.1%. The mass flow rate and vapor quality were in ranges of 3–6 kg/h and 0.4–1.0%, respectively. The effects of the mass flow rate, microchannel aspect ratio, vapor quality, nanoparticle volume concentration, and acceleration direction and magnitude were analyzed in a systematic manner. Experimental results showed that the acceleration direction and magnitude had significant influences on the boiling heat transfer. The heat transfer under configuration C was found to be superior to that under configurations A and B. Moreover, the heat transfer coefficient increased with increases of the mass flow rate and the volume concentration and decreased with the aspect ratio. 展开更多
