The ability of the bacterial strain to biodegrade a hydrocarbon, viz. n-hexadecane, was evaluated through determining the hexadecane concentration in the inoculated culture medium on a gas chromatograph (GC). The effect of pH value on the degrading ability of the bacterial isolate and the impact of temperature on microbial growth were also explored. Test results showed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa was markedly effective in biodegrading n-hexadecane. Furthermore, the ability of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to biodegrade n-hexadecane was different at various pH values. Pseudomonas aeruginosa provided excellent degrading ability at a pH value of 7.0. The microbial cells of Pseudomonas aeruginosa increased with an increasing incubation duration at temperatures ranging from 28 ℃ to 35 ℃, and an exponential phase of microbial growth was observed.展开更多

METHODS: Specimens of gastric antrum mucosa from 83 children were retrospectively analyzed. Expressions of GAS and SS in gastric antrum tissues were assayed by the immunohistochemical Fn Vision method. RESULTS: The expressions of GAS in chronic gastritis Hp+ group (group A), chronic gastritis Hp-group (group B), the duodenal ulcer Hp+group (group C), duodenal ulcer Hp group (group D), and normal control group (group E) were 28.50+4.55, 19.60+2.49, 22.69+2.71, 25.33 + 4.76, and 18.80 + 2.36, respectively. The value in groups A-D was higher than that in group F. The difference was not statistically significant. The expressions of SS in groups A-E were 15.47+ 1.44, 17.29+ 2.04, 15.30+ 1.38, 13.11 +0.93 and 12.14+ 1.68, respectively. The value in groups A-D was higher than that in group F. The difference was also not statistically significant. CONCLUSION: The expressions of GAS and SS are increased in children with chronic gastritis and duodenal ulcer.展开更多

We report a case of SM with multiorgan involvement. A 30-year-old man presented with diarrhea, flushing, maculopapular rash with itching and weight loss. The upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies showed macroscopic involvement of stomach and duodenum; mucosal samples from stomach, duodenum, colon and distal ileum showed mucosal inf iltration by large, spindleshaped MCs with abnormal surface molecule expression (CD2 and CD25), a picture fully consistent with SM, according to the World Health Organization diagnostic criteria. A computed tomography scan showed diffuse lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly and diffuse small bowel involvement. Bone marrow aspirate and biopsy were diagnostic for SM; serum tryptase levels were increased (209 ng/mL, normal values < 20 ng/mL). The conclusive diagnosis was smouldering SM. There wereno therapeutic indications except for treatment of symptoms. The patient was strictly followed up because of the risk of aggressive evolution.展开更多
