实践教学促进“教学设计”课程教学改革研究——以包头师范学院为例

本研究采用问卷调查法、访谈法和行动研究法对"教学设计"课程的教学改革进行了实践探索,以期为"教学设计"课程教学改革的发展提供一种新思路。通过问卷和访谈发现现有"教学设计"课程教学中存在一定的问题,课题组依据相关的教与学的理论,提出了实践教学促进"教学设计"课程教学的教学理念,并在教学实践中展开行动研究,验证了教学理念的有效性。

On Disciplinary Orientation and Course Design of Vocabulary Teaching

This paper argues that the present vocabulary teaching needs reorienting so as to achieve a more systematic and principled vocabulary teaching suitable for China＇s non-English majors. The author then tries to propose a new model of vocabulary teaching, which consists of explicit instruction, incidental learning and strategy training.

A study on needs analysis of learners of Turkish language

This paper reports a small-scale study of needs analysis of leamers of Turkish as a foreign language at University of Florida. Needs analysis is described in the context of foreign language learning as ＂a systematic and ongoing process of gathering information about students＇ needs and preferences, interpreting the information and then making course decisions in order to meet those needs＂ （Graves, 2000, p. 74）. Because foreign language instruction has become much more learner-centered in recent years, needs analysis is a must for effective learning processes to occur （LONG, 1999, 2005; Kikuchi ＆ Apple, 2006）. In this context, the purpose of this pilot study is to gather information about the students＇ needs in learning Turkish at Center for European Studies, where less commonly taught languages, including Czech, Greek, Hungarian and Polish are offered. Drawing on interview data compiled from a number of studies （Tarone ＆ Yule, 1989; LI ＆ Richards, 1995）, the findings indicate that the students＇ needs may be grouped under four categories including their linguistic needs, their objectives in learning Turkish, learning resources, psychological and sociological factors that may impact their learning experiences. In the light of the interview findings, certain suggestions as to how to teach Turkish effectively are made.

Arguing the capacity of ＂word knowledge framework＂ to explain the nature of vocabulary

The acquisition of word knowledge, in terms of breadth and depth, has a fundamental impact on language learning. A comprehensive framework of word knowledge is therefore needed to help language learners master all the aspects of word knowledge. This paper proposed a framework of word knowledge based on the literature review of the field. The pedagogical implications of the word knowledge framework were then proposed and discussed critically. Finally, it is proposed that syllabus designers need to consider the possibility of incorporating ＂word knowledge framework＂ into syllabus.

The Applied Research on Multimedia Technology in College Teaching

Acquisition of pronunciation of consonant clusters by Arabic speakers of English as a second language

The study is based on an observation of the pronunciation of a group of undergraduate students of English as a Second Language （ESL） whose mother tongue is Arabic and who have no formal training in the spoken variety of English other than that received in the classroom. The study of acquisition of pronunciation of consonant clusters at morphological, particularly at the morphophonological levels indicates that the learners are sensitive to the syllabic structure viz., cccv type and cccvcc type, at the word-initial, medial and final positions. Samples of words with different consonant clusters were tested with a homogeneous group of students. Words of identical morphological categories were used as the data to test the students＇ level of perception. These were analyzed using Speech Analyzer Version 2.5. The data includes consonant clusters like plosive-fricative, plosive-plosive, fricative-fricative and plosive-fricative-trill/liquid combinations. The results varied according to the perceptual and articulatory abilities of the learners. It was observed that the plosive perception and acquisition of three-consonant clusters of plosive-plosive word initially, plosive-plosive combinations word finally and plosive-fricative type, posed more difficulty for the learners. The tendency to drop one of the consonants of the cluster was more pronounced with syllables ending in plural morphemes and those ending in -mp, -pt, -kt, -nt, -bt, etc. Difficulty was also noticed with the initial plosive＋/r/, plosive＋/1/combinations, especially in word initial positions. Across the syllable boundaries, these clusters are almost inaudible with some speakers. The difficulty in the articulation of these consonant clusters can be accounted for the mother tongue influence, as in the case of many other features. The results of the analysis have a pedagogical implication in the use of such words with consonant clusters, to teach reading skills to the students of undergraduate level in the present setting and promote self-learning through the use of speech tools.

Stylistics and college English test

Language learners can hardly develop their communicative competence and aesthetic appreciation of literary works without the awareness of stylistics. Since CET-4 and CET-6 direct college students in China, as learners of English as a foreign language, what to learn and how to learn English, they naturally reflect the importance of stylistics. This paper gives a stylistic analysis of the listening and reading part in CET-4 and CET-6 to show it is important for non-English majors to have some knowledge of stylistics.

Dreaming a Possible Dream： Getting Thai Students to Speak in English in a Public Speaking Class

The paper is an analysis of how much success Thai teachers of English have had throughout four decades of teaching English as a Foreign Language （TEFL） and the future direction to take. Thai teachers are aware that their students are not confident of their speaking abilities. That is why they try to avoid making mistakes in pronunciation and connected speech making as mistakes are taken as signs of inability. It is a common sight in an English class that Thai students prefer to remain in their comfort zone of using the Thai language. Speaking is a productive skill; teaching someone to speak cannot be successfully done through listening to the ＂how to＂ lecture. The author proposes that to dream a possible dream, the teachers need to change their course design to adopt the goals of English for communication and enhancement of soft skills such as networking skill, teamwork skill, self-management skill, creativity, and work attitude. An example of a course design used is discussed with the underlining learning theories for the course, the course organization, and the fruits of this endeavor. This course is adopting the ＂Teach Less and Learn More＂ approach, a route to take for real learning.

Study on the Involvement of Chinese Traditional Culture in College Graphic Design Teaching

By analyzing the courses of graphic design major, the author points out that it is necessary to put Chinese traditional culture into courses of graphic design, which can open up students＇ design ideas, optimize their design styles and awareness, as well as improve their moral cultivation. The paper elaborates the influences and realistic significance of Chinese traditional culture on graphic design from perspectives of national cultural development, design communication and teaching application. The Design and Implementation of the Network Interactive Virtual Experiment Platform for Electronic Information Courses

Experimental teaching plays a crucial role in the trainings of students＇ abilities to analyze and solve problems. Therefore, it is very necessary to continuously carry out experiment teaching reform, improve experiment teaching methods and means, and comprehensively open laboratories so as to provide students with more opportunities of doing experiments. To improve the teaching effect of electronic information experimental courses, a network interactive virtual experimental platform is developed. This platform allows students to finish the construction of all kinds of circuit structures and test virtual instruments in a simulation environment, upload experimental data and also interactively communicate with teachers through the lnternet. The platform can be applied to the teaching activities of related electronic information experimental courses, and also can be used as an aid teaching method for theory teachers. Therefore, it possesses a very good interactivity, and makes up the disadvantages of the experimental teaching in hardware environment, so that a feasible solution is provided for the opening of laboratories.

Contribution of technology in language learning： A focus

The emerging technologies in various fields are affecting all walks of life including learning, teaching, education, etc.. The present learning in engineering colleges in the Indian scenario and their effect on general language proficiency is discussed. In the present era of job-oriented education how the accurate language learning and strengthening of skills facilitate one＇s career building is discussed here. The present paper focuses on independent, collaborative and supportive learning environment in the class to mould the reluctant learners. It also brings out the differences between conventional learning and technology assisted learning. In the midst of thousands of soft ware available, it is difficult for one to choose which is most suitable, to use friendly English learning process and which will be specific, more and more learners center and the need for such soft wares is given specific high light here. How the assessment should be carried through language modules is discussed here with a special attention to the learners and product assessment separately.

The Practical Study of ESP Theory in Professional Foreign Language Teaching

With the rapid development of economic globalization, foreign language talents who are cultivated by general foreign language teaching should meet the requirements of the international development strategy. Therefore, it is of great importance to promote foreign language teaching quality. In this paper, we discuss how to fully utilize the English for Specific Purposes （ESP） theory to enhance professional foreign language teaching quality. ESP refers to a type of teaching concept or approach as the counterpart of English for General Purposes （EGP）, which contains a vast range of aspects. Particularly, we propose two English course design methods based on the ESP theory, that is, 1） language centered curriculum design, and 2） learning centered curriculum design. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can significantly improve teaching quality.

A Survey on College English Learning Burnou

Based on burnout theories and published researches in this field, a survey is done on non-majors＇ college English learning burnout through the methods of questionnaire and interview. A considerable degree of burnout is found among freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, regardless of gender, though there are gender differences in different aspects of learning burnout. Insights are drawn from the research data involving such aspects as learner autonomy, teaching style, curriculum design, rapport, modernized facilities, employment awareness, and so on, with an aim to suggest some strategies to overcome learning burnout and improve students＇ language competence. Future research might extend the present study to English majors and attempt a comparison in between.

In the Non-target Language Environment Immersion Teaching Design of the Chinese Writing Course

At the intermediate and advanced stage of the international Chinese education, Chinese writing is one of the important skill courses, one of the difficulties of learning Chinese. For a long time, because its acquisition is so difficult, but it cannot get rid of the inefficiencies and a lack of attraction of the traditional pen and paper training, it has become one of the teaching problems to be solved urgently in teaching research community. In the non-target language environment, the use of limited time and space in the classroom to training students＇ Chinese writing skill is an important task of the intermediate and advanced Chinese teaching. At the cultural environment in Westem Europe, learners＇ awareness of democracy and freedom are very strong, they are active, rich in their thinking, the interesting, challenging, and immersive of training activities are more attractive to students Immersion teaching design of the Chinese writing course is such a lively, fun, and interactive new design. This paper discusses the design method and a characteristic of immersion teaching Chinese writing course in the non-target language environment, analyzes its design basis and practice principles, and puts forward some suggestions on the application of this type of design.

Interpretation of language competence and its enlightenment for TEFL

What language competence a learner has can she/he achieve an effective communication？ This question is the main concern for applied linguists and English teachers in TEFL, for the recognition of language competence directly influences the goal of teaching, curriculum design, textbook writing and classroom practice. This paper discusses the various points of views on language competence and explores its characteristics which, the author believes, will shed some light on foreign language teaching.
