Twenty-four hours after cardiopulmonary resuscitation, nerve cell injury and expression of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, and p38 mitogen activated protein kinase content were increased. Rats injected with Xuebijing, a Chinese herb compound preparation, exhibited normal cellular structure and morphology, dense neuronal cytoplasm, and decreased tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, and p38 mitogen activated protein kinase expression at 24 hours following cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These data suggest that Xuebijing can attenuate neuronal injury induced by hypoxia and reperfusion during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.展开更多
The purpose of this study was to develop a quantitative structure–property relationship(QSPR) model based on the enhanced replacement method(ERM) and support vector machine(SVM) to predict the blood-to-brain barrier ...The purpose of this study was to develop a quantitative structure–property relationship(QSPR) model based on the enhanced replacement method(ERM) and support vector machine(SVM) to predict the blood-to-brain barrier partitioning behavior(log BB) of various drugs and organic compounds. Different molecular descriptors were calculated using a dragon package to represent the molecular structures of the compounds studied. The enhanced replacement method(ERM) was used to select the variables and construct the SVM model. The correlation coefficient, R^2, between experimental results and predicted log BB was 0.878 and 0.986, respectively. The results obtained demonstrated that, for all compounds, the log BB values estimated by SVM agreed with the experimental data, demonstrating that SVM is an effective method for model development, and can be used as a powerful chemometric tool in QSPR studies.展开更多

Recent imaging studies have explored neural mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction ...There is a growing interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with dementia and cognitive impairment at an early stage. Recent imaging studies have explored neural mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction based on brain network architecture and functioning. The dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) is thought to regulate large-scale intrinsic brain networks, and plays a primary role in cognitive processing with the anterior insular cortex (aIC), thus providing salience functions. Although neural mechanisms have been elucidated at the connectivity level by imaging studies, their understanding at the activity level still remains unclear because of limited time-based resolution of conventional imaging techniques. In this study, we investigated temporal activity of the dACC during word (verb) generation tasks based on our newly developed event-related deep brain activity (ER-DBA) method using occipital electroencephalogram (EEG) alpha-2 powers with a time resolution of a few hundred milliseconds. The dACC exhibited dip-like temporal waveforms indicating deactivation in an initial stage of each trial when appropriate verbs were successfully generated. By contrast, monotonous increase was observed for incorrect responses and a decrease was detected for no responses. The dip depth was correlated with the percentage of success. Additionally, the dip depth linearly increased with increasing slow component of the DBA index at rest across all subjects. These findings suggest that dACC deactivation is essential for cognitive processing, whereas its activation is required for goal-oriented behavioral outputs, such as cued speech. Such dACC functioning, represented by the dip depth, is supported by the activity of the upper brainstem region including monoaminergic neural systems.展开更多

However, the guidelines do not discu...The American Heart Association and the European Resuscitation Council recently recommend- ed that vasopressin can be used for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, instead of epinephrine. However, the guidelines do not discuss the effects of vasopressin during cerebral resuscitation. In this study, we intraperitoneally injected epinephrine and/or vasopressin during cardiopul- monary resuscitation in a rat model of asphyxial cardiac arrest. The results demonstrated that, compared with epinephrine alone, the pathological damage to nerve cells was lessened, and the levels of c-Iun N-terminal kinase and p38 expression were significantly decreased in the hippo- campus after treatment with vasopressin alone or the vasopressin and epinephrine combination. No significant difference in resuscitation effects was detected between vasopressin alone and the vasopressin and epinephrine combination. These results suggest that vasopressin alone or the vasopressin and epinephrine combination suppress the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase and c-Iun N-terminal kinase signaling pathways and reduce neuronal apoptosis during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.展开更多
