The influencing mechanism of chromium on the oxidation resistance of Ti-Cr alloys was discussed. The results show that the oxidation resistance of the alloys decreases with Cr below a critical chromium content wC and increases above wC; above 1000 K, the oxidation kinetics obeys parabolic rule and titanium dominates the oxidation process; after oxidation, the oxygen-diffusing layer is present in the alloy matrix, the oxide scale is mainly composed of rutile whose internal layer is rich in chromium, and chromium oxides separated out from TiO2 near the alloy-oxide interface improve the oxidation resistance. Ignition of metals and alloys is a fast non-isothermal oxidation process and the oxidation mechanism of Ti-Cr alloys during ignition is predicted.展开更多

The results show that the friction coefficient mainly experiences two steady stages. The first steady stage corresponds to the Coulomb friction with material abrasion. The second steady stage corresponds to the stick friction with fully plastic flow. Moreover, the increasing rates of axial displacement, temperature and friction coefficient are obviously enhanced with the increase of rotation speed and axial pressure. It can also be found that the there exists rapid diffusion phenomenon in the Mg-Ti friction welding system. The large deformation activated diffusion coefficient is about 105 higher than that activated by thermal.展开更多

The wear rates were measured within a load range of 3-15 N, sliding speed range of 0.03-0.24 m/s, test temperature range of 25-200 °C and at a constant sliding distance of 400 m. The wear tracks, worn surfaces and wear debris of the alloys were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results show that the wear rate of the alloys increases almost linearly with increasing applied load and decreases with increasing sliding speed. The wear rate of the as-cast alloy is higher than that of the cast+T6 alloy. The amount of Mg12Y1Zn1 phase, surface oxidation and retained wear debris affect the wear rate. The dominant wear mechanisms under the test condition are abrasion and plastic deformation.展开更多
