Several nucleoside analogs are potent inhibitors of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) in cell culture. However, in many cases the nucleoside derivatives have a poor affinity for nucleoside kinases. Nucleoside 5′-phosphorothioates is relatively resistant to enzymatic transformations.
