Serum BGP in untreated hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism were 21. 2±2. 8 and 3. 8±0.5μg/L respectively, which were significantly different from those of normal control (all, P<0. 001). Serum T3 and T4 of treated Patients with hyperthyroidism within 6 months had normalized, but serum BGP was still higher than the normal one. Serum BGP returned to normal in treated patients with hyperthyroidism more than 6 months. We consider serum BGP is a sensitive marker of hyperthyroid osteopathy and besides thyroxine, there are also some unknown factors that participate in serum BGP secretion, which is worthy to be further investigated.展开更多

It was found that BMD was 10% greater in hypoparathyroidism patients than in controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. Serum BGP was significantly lower in hypoparathyroidism patients than in controls (P<0. 02). We postulate that PTH deficiency and long term treatment with calcium and vitamin D for hypoparathyroidism appear to be main mediator of this increased bone mass, and that hone mass is not affected by endogenous calcitonin.展开更多
