Monitoring the change in horizontal stress from the geophysical data is a tough challenge, and it has a crucial impact on broad practical scenarios which involve reservoir exploration and development, carbon dioxide (CO_(2)) injection and storage, shallow surface prospecting and deep-earth structure description. The change in in-situ stress induced by hydrocarbon production and localized tectonic movements causes the changes in rock mechanic properties (e.g. wave velocities, density and anisotropy) and further causes the changes in seismic amplitudes, phases and travel times. In this study, the nonlinear elasticity theory that regards the rock skeleton (solid phase) and pore fluid as an effective whole is used to characterize the effect of horizontal principal stress on rock overall elastic properties and the stress-dependent anisotropy parameters are therefore formulated. Then the approximate P-wave, SV-wave and SH-wave angle-dependent reflection coefficient equations for the horizontal-stress-induced anisotropic media are proposed. It is shown that, on the different reflectors, the stress-induced relative changes in reflectivities (i.e., relative difference) of elastic parameters (i.e., P- and S-wave velocities and density) are much less than the changes in contrasts of anisotropy parameters. Therefore, the effects of stress change on the reflectivities of three elastic parameters are reasonably neglected to further propose an AVO inversion approach incorporating P-, SH- and SV-wave information to estimate the change in horizontal principal stress from the corresponding time-lapse seismic data. Compared with the existing methods, our method eliminates the need for man-made rock-physical or fitting parameters, providing more stable predictive power. 1D test illustrates that the estimated result from time-lapse P-wave reflection data shows the most reasonable agreement with the real model, while the estimated result from SH-wave reflection data shows the largest bias. 2D test illustrates the feasibility of the proposed inversion method for estimating the change in horizontal stress from P-wave time-lapse seismic data. 展开更多

Silica-based anode is widely employed for high energy density Li-ion batteries owing to their high theoretical specific capacity(4200 m A h g-1).However,it is always accompanied by a huge volume expansion(300%)and shrinks during the lithiation/delithiation process, further leading to low cycle stability.Efforts to mitigate the adverse effects caused by volume expansion such as robust binder matrix,Coreshell structure, etc.,inevitably affect the electronic conductivity within the electrode.Herein,a high conductivity and elasticity Si anode(Ni-P-SBR(styrene-butadiene rubber)@Si)was designed and fabricated via the Ni-P-SBR composite-electroless-plating process. In this design, the Si particles are surrounded by SBR polymer and Ni particles, where the SBR can adapt to the volume change and Ni particles can provide the electrode with high electronic conductivity. Therefore, the Ni-P-SBR@Si delivers a high initial capacity of 3470 m A h g-1and presents capacity retention of 49.4%within 200 cycles at 600 m A g-1.Additionally,a high capacity of 1153 m A h g-1can be achieved at 2000 m A g-1and can be cycled stably under bending conditions. This strategy provides feasible ideas to solve the key issues that limit the practical application of Si anodes. 展开更多

In the nonparametric data envelopment analysis literature, scale elasticity is evaluated in two alternative ways:using either the technical efficiency model or the cost efficiency model. This evaluation becomes problematic in several situations, for example(a)when input proportions change in the long run,(b)when inputs are heterogeneous, and(c)when firms face ex-ante price uncertainty in making their production decisions. To address these situations,a scale elasticity evaluation was performed using a value-based cost efficiency model. However, this alternative value-based scale elasticity evaluation is sensitive to the uncertainty and variability underlying input and output data. Therefore,in this study,we introduce a stochastic cost-efficiency model based on chance-constrained programming to develop a value-based measure of the scale elasticity of firms facing data uncertainty. An illustrative empirical application to the Indian banking industry comprising 71 banks for eight years(1998–2005)was made to compare inferences about their efficiency and scale properties. The key findings are as follows:First, both the deterministic model and our proposed stochastic model yield distinctly different results concerning the efficiency and scale elasticity scores at various tolerance levels of chance constraints. However, both models yield the same results at a tolerance level of 0.5,implying that the deterministic model is a special case of the stochastic model in that it reveals the same efficiency and returns to scale characterizations of banks.Second, the stochastic model generates higher efficiency scores for inefficient banks than its deterministic counterpart.Third, public banks exhibit higher efficiency than private and foreign banks. Finally, public and old private banks mostly exhibit either decreasing or constant returns to scale, whereas foreign and new private banks experience either increasing or decreasing returns to scale.Although the application of our proposed stochastic model is illustrative,it can be potentially applied to all firms in the information and distribution-intensive industry with high fixed costs, which have ample potential for reaping scale and scope benefits. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the value of real-time elastic shear wave in evaluating muscle elasticity in patients with renal failure.Methods:50 patients with chronic renal failure from January 2019 to December 2022 were randomly selected as the experimental group, and 50 healthy patients aged 21-61 during the same period were selected as the control group, and the basic information of the patients, including age, gender, body mass index, etc.,were collected.Besides, the Young's modulus of the two groups of patients were observed and analyzed. Results:The Young's modulus values of left and right gastrocnemius muscles in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05),and there was no statistical difference between the left and right sides of the experimental group and the control group(P>0.05).Conclusion:Real-time shear wave elastography provides a non-invasive,real-time and effective tool for the assessment of muscle elasticity in patients with renal failure.Through further research and optimization,real-time shear wave elastography will play a greater role in the prevention and treatment of patients with renal failure, improving the quality of life and prognosis of patients. 展开更多

A new size-dependent axially functionally graded(AFG) micro-beam model is established with the application of a reformulated strain gradient elasticity theory(RSGET). The new micro-beam model incorporates the strain gradient, velocity gradient, and couple stress effects, and accounts for the material variation along the axial direction of the two-component functionally graded beam. The governing equations and complete boundary conditions of the AFG beam are derived based on Hamilton's principle. The correctness of the current model is verified by comparing the static behavior results of the current model and the finite element model(FEM) at the micro-scale. The influence of material inhomogeneity and size effect on the static and dynamic responses of the AFG beam is studied. The numerical results show that the static and vibration responses predicted by the newly developed model are different from those based on the classical model at the micro-scale. The new model can be applied not only in the optimization of micro acoustic wave devices but also in the design of AFG micro-sensors and micro-actuators. 展开更多

The first purpose of this striking but difficult paper is to revisit the mathematical foundations of Elasticity (EL) and Electromagnetism (EM) by comparing the structure of these two theories and examining with details their known couplings, in particular piezoelectricity and photoelasticity. Despite the strange Helmholtz and Mach-Lippmann analogies existing between them, no classical technique may provide a common setting. However, unexpected arguments discovered independently by the brothers E. and F. Cosserat in 1909 for EL and by H. Weyl in 1918 for EM are leading to construct a new differential sequence called Spencer sequence in the framework of the formal theory of Lie pseudo groups and to introduce it for the conformal group of space-time with 15 parameters. Then, all the previous explicit couplings can be deduced abstractly and one must just go to a laboratory in order to know about the coupling constants on which they are depending, like in the Hooke or Minkowski constitutive relations existing respectively and separately in EL or EM. We finally provide a new combined experimental and theoretical proof of the fact that any 1-form with value in the second order jets (elations) of the conformal group of space-time can be uniquely decomposed into the direct sum of the Ricci tensor and the electromagnetic field. This result questions the mathematical foundations of both General Relativity (GR) and Gauge Theory (GT). In particular, the Einstein operator (6 terms) must be thus replaced by the adjoint of the Ricci operator (4 terms only) in the study of gravitational waves. 展开更多

A three-dimensional(3D)asymptotic theory is reformulated for the static analysis of simply-supported,isotropic and orthotropic single-layered nanoplates and graphene sheets(GSs),in which Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory is used to capture the small length scale effect on the static behaviors of these. The perturbation method is used to expand the 3D nonlocal elasticity problems as a series of two-dimensional(2D)nonlocal plate problems, the governing equations of which for various order problems retain the same differential operators as those of the nonlocal classical plate theory(CST),although with different nonhomogeneous terms.Expanding the primary field variables of each order as the double Fourier series functions in the in-plane directions,we can obtain the Navier solutions of the leading-order problem, and the higher-order modifications can then be determined in a hierarchic and consistent manner. Some benchmark solutions for the static analysis of isotropic and orthotropic nanoplates and GSs subjected to sinusoidally and uniformly distributed loads are given to demonstrate the performance of the 3D nonlocal asymptotic theory. 展开更多

Rotation is antisymmetric and therefore is not a coherent element of the classical elastic theory, which is characterized by symmetry. A new theory of linear elasticity is developed from the concept of asymmetric strain, which is defined as the transpose of the deformation gradient tensor to involve rotation as well as symmetric strain. The new theory basically differs from the prevailing micropolar theory or couple stress theory in that it maintains the same basis as the classical theory of linear elasticity and does not need extra concepts, such as “microrotation” and “couple stresses”. The constitutive relation of the new theory, the three-parameter Hooke’s law, comes from the theorem about isotropic asymmetric linear elastic materials. Concise differential equations of translational motion are derived consequently giving the same velocity formula for P-wave and a different one for S-wave. Differential equations of rotational motion are derived with the introduction of spin, which has an intrinsic connection with rotation. According to the new theory, S-wave essentially has rotation as large as deviatoric strain and should be referred to as “shear wave” in the context of asymmetric strain. There are nine partial differential equations for the deformation harmony condition in the new theory;these are given with the first spatial differentiations of asymmetric strain. Formulas for rotation energy, in addition to those for (symmetric) strain energy, are derived to form a complete set of formulas for the total mechanical energy. 展开更多

Without applying any stable element techniques in the mixed methods, two simple generalized mixed element(GME) formulations were derived by combining the minimum potential energy principle and Hellinger–Reissner(H–R) variational principle. The main features of the GME formulations are that the common C0-continuous polynomial shape functions for displacement methods are used to express both displacement and stress variables, and the coefficient matrix of these formulations is not only automatically symmetric but also invertible. Hence, the numerical results of the generalized mixed methods based on the GME formulations are stable. Displacement as well as stress results can be obtained directly from the algebraic system for finite element analysis after introducing stress and displacement boundary conditions simultaneously. Numerical examples show that displacement and stress results retain the same accuracy. The results of the noncompatible generalized mixed method proposed herein are more accurate than those of the standard noncompatible displacement method. The noncompatible generalized mixed element is less sensitive to element geometric distortions. 展开更多

In this article, transverse free vibrations of axially moving nanobeams subjected to axial tension are studied based on nonlocal stress elasticity theory. A new higher-order differential equation of motion is derived from the variational principle with corresponding higher-order, non-classical boundary conditions. Two supporting conditions are investigated, i.e. simple supports and clamped supports. Effects of nonlocal nanoscale, dimensionless axial velocity, density and axial tension on natural frequencies are presented and discussed through numerical examples. It is found that these factors have great influence on the dynamic behaviour of an axially moving nanobeam. In particular, the nonlocal effect tends to induce higher vibration frequencies as compared to the results obtained from classical vibration theory. Analytical solutions for critical velocity of these nanobeams when the frequency vanishes are also derived and the influences of nonlocal nanoscale and axial tension on the critical velocity are discussed. 展开更多

BACKGROUND It is important to differentiate benign and malignant focal liver lesions(FLLs)accurately.Despite the wide use and acceptance of shear wave elastography(SWE),its value for assessing the elasticity of FLLs and differentiating benign and malignant FLLs is still investigational.Previous studies of SWE for FLLs used mean elasticity as the parameter to reflect the stiffness of FLLs.Considering the inhomogeneity of tumor stiffness, maximal elasticity(Emax)might be the suitable parameter to reflect the stiffness of FLLs and to differentiate malignant FLLs from benign ones.AIM To explore the value of SWE with Emax in differential diagnosis of solid FLLs.METHODS We included 104 solid FLLs in 95 patients and 50 healthy volunteers. All the subjects were examined using conventional ultrasound(US)and virtual touch tissue quantification(VTQ)imaging.A diagnosis of benign or malignant FLL was made using conventional US.Ten VTQ values were acquired after 10 consecutive measurements for each FLL and each normal liver, and the largest value was recorded as Emax.RESULTS There were 56 cases of malignant FLLs and 48 cases of benign FLLs in this study.Emax of malignant FLLs(3.29±0.88 m/s)was significantly higher than that of benign FLLs(1.30±0.46 m/s,P<0.01)and that of livers in healthy volunteers(1.15±0.17 m/s,P<0.01).The cut-off point of Emax was 1.945,and the area under the curve was 0.978.The sensitivity and specificity of Emax were 92.9%and 91.7%,respectively,higher(but not significantly)than those of conventional US(80.4%for sensitivity and 81.3%for specificity).Combined diagnosis of conventional US and Emax using parallel testing improved the sensitivity to 100%with specificity of 75%.CONCLUSION SWE is a convenient and easy method to obtain accurate stiffness information of solid FLLs.Emax is useful for differential diagnosis of FLLs,especially in combination with conventional US. 展开更多

A novel size-dependent model is developed herein to study the bending behavior of beam-type micro/nano-structures considering combined effects of nonlocality and micro-rotational degrees of freedom. To accomplish this aim, the micropolar theory is combined with the nonlocal elasticity. To consider the nonlocality, both integral (original) and differential formulations of Eringen’s nonlocal theory are considered. The beams are considered to be Timoshenko-type, and the governing equations are derived in the variational form through Hamilton’s principle. The relations are written in an appropriate matrix-vector representation that can be readily utilized in numerical approaches. A finite element (FE) approach is also proposed for the solution procedure. Parametric studies are conducted to show the simultaneous nonlocal and micropolar effects on the bending response of small-scale beams under different boundary conditions. 展开更多

This article studies the optimal proportional reinsurance and investment problem under a constant elasticity of variance (CEV) model. Assume that the insurer's surplus process follows a jump-diffusion process, the insurer can purchase proportional reinsurance from the reinsurer via the variance principle and invest in a risk-free asset and a risky asset whose price is modeled by a CEV model. The diffusion term can explain the uncertainty associated with the surplus of the insurer or the additional small claims. The objective of the insurer is to maximize the expected exponential utility of terminal wealth. This optimization problem is studied in two cases depending on the diffusion term's explanation.
