According to studies, rehabilitation-promoting nursing care enhances the functional capacity of the elderly. The Elderly Services Act obliges municipalities to create a plan to support the elderly population, emphasizing home care and rehabilitation measures. A large portion of graduated practical nurses will be working with the elderly, so the education of practical nurses must meet the needs of the workforce. The study aimed to produce new information on the implementation of rehabilitation- promoting nursing care in the elderly service system and on the education of rehabilitation-promoting nursing care for the elderly in vocational institutions. The research data was collected in the autumn of 2020 through individual thematic interviews with practical nurse students (n = 8). The data was analyzed using inductive content analysis. Practical nurse students’ experiences of rehabilitation-promoting nursing care for the elderly were related to nurses’ time management, organizational practices, nursing competence, nurses’ attitudes, nurses’ practices, organizational development, implementation and development of practical education, factors affecting the use of aids, and technological aspects of aids in the future. In conclusion, it can be stated that the content of education and practical work life do not align. It is essential to increase competence in rehabilitation-promoting nursing care and to develop organizational practices.展开更多

While administering high-level critical care, the working styles of critical care nurses, the types of clinical care they provide, and the way in which they prioritize tasks, remain unclear. Aim of this study was to elucidate the characteristic duties of critical care nurses through a comparison with neurological ward nurses. Methods: We recorded the duties of critical care nurses and neurology ward nurses (10 each) using a time-study design. Duties were measured separately by action, classified using a classification table, and differences between the two groups were compared. Results: No differences in the number of actions were observed between the two groups. The top five items that required the most time for critical care nurses were, “Movement”, “Administration and oxygen management”, “Handover process/Doctor’s rounds”, “Preparation for entry and exit management of patients”, and “Bed bathing (for bedbound patients)”. Of the 195 items, significant differences between the groups were noted for 34 items, while the duties of critical care nurses were best characterized by bed bathing (for bedbound patients), changing position, confirmation of infusion tubes, handover process/doctor’s rounds, and preparation for entry and exit management of patients. Conclusion: A characteristic of critical care nurses is that they must remain near patients and perform tasks while moving only a short distance. Moreover, the promotion of tasks while communicating with physicians is presumed to play a role in the promotion of team medicine. Furthermore, much time was spent caring for patients in bed, and a lot of time was devoted to the preparation and finalizing of treatments and care, suggesting the possibility that more time can be spent on caring for patients through a revision of duties.展开更多

How far this EBP has progressed in different health aspects is usually established by systematic reviews of RCTs. Nurse-led RCTs exist but no study has addressed the essentials of nursing care. Aim: The aim was therefore to determine the essentials of nurses’ interventions by means of nurse-led RCTs in somatic care focusing on the stated context, goals, content, strategies as well as the nurse’s role related to effectiveness. Methods: A systematic review was realized according to Cochrane review assumptions to identify, appraise and synthesize all empirical evidence meeting pre-specified eligibility criteria. The PRISMA statement guided the data extraction process (n = 55) from PubMed and CINAHL. Results: Of the RCTs in somatic care, 71% showed a positive effectiveness of nurse-led interventions, of which the nurse had a significant role with regard to being the main responsible in 67% of the studies. Also, 47% of the RCTs presented a theoretical standpoint related to the nurse-led interventions and most prominent were international evidence-based guidelines. Goals were found to have either a patient-centered or a professional-centered ambition. Strategies were based on patient-directed initiatives, nurse-patient-directed initiatives or nurse-directed initiatives, while contents were built upon either a patient-nurse interaction or a nursing management plan. Conclusions: This review underlines the necessity of a holistic view of a person, as nurse-led RCTs comprising a patient-centered ambition, patient-directed initiative and patient-nurse interaction plan showed beneficial nursing care effectiveness, particularly if theory-based. In a nurse-led RCT, a basic theoretical perspective is advantageous as well as to elucidate the role of the nurse in relation to the estimated effects.展开更多

Aim: This study aimed to describe intensive care nurses’ experiences of caring for intubated patients under light sedation. Methods: This study was an explorative descriptive qualitative study. Data were collected from 12 intensive care nurses by three focus group interviews and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: Five categories emerged from the data: 1) the importance of verbal communication and the nurses’ presence, 2) feelings of frustration and heavy workload, 3) assessment of patients’ pain and anxiety, 4) the nurses’ desire for the development of guidelines, and 5) being inspired by the care. Conclusion: The study found that intensive care nurses were positive towards light sedation care but the organization of care did not support them as the patients cared for with light sedation treatments demanded their physical presence at patients’ bed site.展开更多

Identifying the factors influencing student’s willingness to care for this special population is essential not only to inform stigma reduction strategies but also to provide useful information towards building a critical mass of future compassionate caregivers with ultimate goal of improving the quality of nursing care for mentally ill persons. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive research design was utilized to examine 200 participants from a training institution in Ebonyi state. Data was collected using validated author constructed instrument. Descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized to analyze data. Result: Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the variables were statistically significant at χ2(4) = 23.133, p < 0.001. This demonstrates that all factors (gender, marital status, incentives, and family type) influence student nurses’ willingness to work with mentally ill patients who have highly infectious diseases. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that appropriate institutional policies, additional training, and incentives should be adopted to boost student motivation.展开更多

The patients have been quarantined and treated in special shelter hospitals, and mild illness accounts for the majority of the total number of patients. This article reports one case of the first batches of infected medicalstaff, who got infected with 2019 novel coronavirus and later discharged 2 weeks after receiving treatment and nursing care in Wuhan UnionHospital. Considering all aspects of the patient’s hospitalization, the patient was performed ward environment management, medical nursing, symptomatic treatment, nutrition management, vital signs monitoring, observation and nursing, psychological assessment and support, andinfection protection and management. As the earliest successful case of cure, the patient’s manifestations are classical and common. Moreover,we hope to share it with colleagues to fight against COVID‑19 for reference. The treatment and nursing guidelines can be applied to treat a largenumber of mild cases, thus improving the discharge rate of patients and reducing the pressure of epidemic situation.展开更多

Following rigorous treatment and dedicated nursing care, 7 patients demonstrated significant improvement and were subsequently discharged.
文摘The significance of rehabilitation-promoting nursing care is emphasized in aging Finland. It is essential to increase competence in rehabilitation-promoting nursing care and to develop organizational practices.
文摘Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of perioperative intensive nursing on patients who underwent severed finger reimplantation and its influence on sleep quality.Methods:62 patients who underwent severed finger reimplantation between January 2023 and December 2023 were included. They were divided into two groups:the observation group(n=31)and the control group(n=31).The control group received basic nursing interventions, while the observation group received intensive nursing care. The comparison parameters included visual analog pain score(VAS),incidence of vascular crises, length of hospitalization,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Hamilton Depression Score(HAM-D),Hamilton Anxiety Score(HAM-A),and patient satisfaction. Results:Postoperative VAS score, incidence of vascular crisis, hospitalization time,PSQI score, and HAM-A and HAM-D scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Meanwhile,the patient satisfaction of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Perioperative intensive nursing care for patients undergoing severed finger reimplantation demonstrates significant benefits. It reduces postoperative pain, lowers the incidence of vascular crises, shortens hospitalization durations, enhances sleep quality, alleviates negative emotions, and improves nursing satisfaction. These findings underscore the importance and applicability of such care practices.
文摘This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between nursing informatics(NI)competency and information literacy skills for evidencebased practice(EBP)among intensive care nurses. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 184 nurses working in intensive care units(ICUs).The study data were collected through demographic information,Nursing Informatics Competency Assessment Tool(NICAT),and information literacy skills for EBP questionnaires. The intensive care nurses received competent and low-moderate levels for the total scores of NI competency and information literacy skills, respectively. They received a moderate score for the use of different information resources but a low score for information searching skills, different search features, and knowledge about search operators, and only 31.5%of the nurses selected the most appropriate statement.NI competency and related subscales had a significant direct bidirectional correlation with information literacy skills for EBP and its subscales(P<0.05).Nurses require a high level of NI competency and information literacy for EBP to obtain up-to-date information and provide better care and decision-making.Health planners and policymakers should develop interventions to enhance NI competency and information literacy skills among nurses and motivate them to use EBP in clinical settings.
文摘Objectives Various authors have explored the combination of competencies necessary for ensuring safe and quality care carried out by nurses in Intensive Care Units(ICUs).Nurses’perception of training is an element that must be studied in order to adopt appropriate educational measures. This study aimed to evaluate nurses’perception of the importance of intensive care training in Spain. Methods A descriptive,cross-sectional,multicentre study was conducted on a national level in Spain.Totally 85 ICUs took part in the study. The questionnaire used was developed using the Delphi method and had 66 items to investigate nurses’perception on competency requirements and training needs. The evaluation was conducted by a 10-point Likert scale. Results The sample was 568 Spanish nurses.Significant differences were found on an academic level,in terms of gender and hospital type, and in the professional experience of the nurse when it comes to evaluating the different training items;the differences in overall questionnaire scores among these groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The nurses analyzed believe that previous training and professional experience in other care services are necessary before starting work in an ICU.Conclusion Implementation of training programs tailored to the needs of critical nurses had benefits for nurses and the health system.Nurses benefited from training focused on the skills and knowledge of each moment of their working life.Nurses have a different evaluation of their training needs throughout their professional cycle. Therefore, their training must be adapted to the professional stage of each nurse.
文摘Background: The importance of the acute phase in hospitals has been increasing. Furthermore, much time was spent caring for patients in bed, and a lot of time was devoted to the preparation and finalizing of treatments and care, suggesting the possibility that more time can be spent on caring for patients through a revision of duties.
文摘BACKGROUND Uterine fibroids, are prevalent benign tumors affecting women of reproductive age. However, surgical treatment is often necessary for symptomatic hysteromyoma cases. This study examines the impact of humanized nursing care on reducing negative emotions and postoperative complications in patients receiving hysteromyoma surgery.AIM To investigate the impact of humanized nursing care on patients undergoing hysteromyoma surgery.METHODS Among patients who underwent hysteromyoma surgery at the Fudan University Affiliated Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital,200 were randomly assigned to either the control group(n=100)or the humanized nursing care group(n=100).The control group received traditional nursing care, while the humanized nursing care group received a comprehensive care plan encompassing psychological support, pain management, and tailored rehabilitation programs. In addition, anxiety and depression levels were assessed using the hospital anxiety and depression scale preoperatively and postoperatively.Postoperative complications were evaluated during follow-up assessments and compared between both groups.RESULTS The humanized nursing care group demonstrated a significant decrease in anxiety and depression levels compared to the control group(P<0.05).The rate of postoperative complications, including infection, bleeding, and deep venous thrombosis, was also markedly lower in the humanized nursing care group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Humanized nursing care can effectively alleviate negative emotions and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications in patients undergoing hysteromyoma surgery. This approach should be considered a crucial component of perioperative care for these patients.Further research may be needed to explore additional benefits and long-term outcomes of implementing humanized nursing care in this population.
文摘Background: Nursing practice has to contribute to evidence pointing out why there is a need for more nurse-designed randomized control trials (RCTs) focusing on evidence-based practice (EBP). In a nurse-led RCT, a basic theoretical perspective is advantageous as well as to elucidate the role of the nurse in relation to the estimated effects.
文摘Introduction: Previous studies have shown that a light sedation level is beneficial for intubated patients in the Intensive care unit (ICU). Conclusion: The study found that intensive care nurses were positive towards light sedation care but the organization of care did not support them as the patients cared for with light sedation treatments demanded their physical presence at patients’ bed site.
文摘Background: Individuals experiencing mental illness and diagnosed with highly infectious diseases (HID) are doubly stigmatized. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that appropriate institutional policies, additional training, and incentives should be adopted to boost student motivation.
文摘Objectives:This study aims to enhance researchers’and nurses’understanding of how to best support migrant patients with heart failure in self-care management.Previous research on self-care in heart failure patients has highlighted its importance, particularly among migrant populations.Nurses play an important role in informing and engaging patients with chronic conditions like heart failure to support their active participation in self-care.However,nurses’experiences of providing self-care counseling to migrant populations with heart failure have not been studied. Methods:A qualitative study was conducted.Nurses working with migrant patients with HF(n?13)from different types of facility in Western Sweden were interviewed between October and December 2020.Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results:The main theme that emerged from the interviews was the difficulty for nurses“to find balance”in self-care counseling. The nurses during self-care counseling had:“to accept challenges,”“to use creative strategies,”faced“problems related to health literacy,”and“to work according to their(the nurses’)obligations.”It was evident that nurses faced several challenges in counseling migrants in self-care,including language and cultural barriers, time resource constraints, low levels of health literacy, and experienced disharmony between the law and their professional norms. They perceived building caring relationships with their patients to be crucial to fostering health-promoting self-care processes. Conclusions:To increase self-care adherence, nurses must become more sensitive to cultural differences and adapt self-care counseling to patients’health literacy. The findings of this research support and challenge nurses in providing the best counsel to migrant patients with heart failure living in Sweden’s multi-ethnic society.Policymakers in the health care organization should act to facilitate mutual cultural understanding between all involved partners for patient-safe self-care counseling.
文摘The coronavirus disease (COVID‑19) has claimed thousands of lives. The treatment and nursing guidelines can be applied to treat a largenumber of mild cases, thus improving the discharge rate of patients and reducing the pressure of epidemic situation.
文摘BACKGROUND:Life-sustaining treatments(LSTs)may prolong life but greatly decrease the quality of death. One factor influencing decision-making about withholding and withdrawing these treatments is the attitude of nurses. This study aimed to evaluate the attitude of critical care nurses towards life-sustaining treatments in South East Iran.METHODS:In this cross-sectional study,"Ethnicity and Attitudes towards Advance Care Directives Questionnaire"was used to investigate the attitude of 104 critical care nurses towards lifesustaining treatments in three hospitals affiliated to Kerman University of Medical Sciences.RESULTS:The findings of this study indicated that although a majority of critical care nurses(77%)did not have personal desire for use of LSTs including CPR and mechanical ventilation, they had moderately negative to neutral attitude towards general use of LSTs(2.95 of 5).CONCLUSIONS:These findings suggest that nurses'attitude towards LSTs can be changed by inclusion of specific courses about death, palliative care and life-sustaining treatments in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing curricula.Educating Muslim nurses about religious aspects of LSTs may also improve their attitudes.
