The contingency theory and the theory of routine dynamics underpinned the study, and positivism was the underlying philosophy. The study adopted the cross-sectional survey through the use of questionnaire. 820 middle and top-level managers constituted the elements of the population, and the Krejcie & Morgan’s formula was used to determine the sample size of 262 respondents. Structural Equation Modeling was deployed to test the hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. The results showed that contingency planning;benchmarking and continuous improvement processes all have a significant positive relationship with organisational adaptability of Petroleum tank farms in South-South, Nigeria. The study concludes that Petroleum tank farms’ operations should focus on the adoption of contingency planning, benchmarking and continuous improvement processes to enhance organisational adaptability. Therefore, it is recommended that the management of Petroleum tank farms should put in place mechanisms to advance continuous improvement processes by allocating the necessary amount of resources, such as energy, time and money, in order to promote the continuous development of the continuous improvement systems. Furthermore, managers of Petroleum tank farms should make better the adoption of contingency planning, ensuring that there is as much necessary training and information for employees on how to act during a crises situation, in order to evaluate safety and prepare in advance for recovery from disasters.展开更多

The purpose of this article is twofold. Firstly, it is to recall how balance can be maintained despite the different sources of postural perturbation arising during voluntary movement. The importance of the so-called "anticipatory postural adjustments"(APA), taken as a "line of defence" against the destabilizing effect induced by a predicted perturbation, is emphasized. Secondly, it is to report the results of recent studies that questioned the adaptability of APA to various constraints imposed on the postural system. The postural constraints envisaged here are classified into biomechanical(postural stability, superimposition of motor tasks),(neuro) physiological(fatigue), temporal(time pressure) and psychological(fear of falling, emotion). Overall, the results of these studies point out the capacity of the central nervous system(CNS) to adapt the spatio-temporal features of APA to each of theseconstraints. However, it seems that, depending on the constraint, the "priority" of the CNS was focused on postural stability maintenance, on body protection and/or on maintenance of focal movement performance.展开更多

This hybrid variety had high grain yield, high oil content, wide adaptability, and good quality. The oil content of Zhongyouza 11 is steadily above 43% in the three ecological regions along the Yangtze River valley, which is the largest winter oilseed production area in China. The highest oil content of Zhongyouza 11 reached 46.68% in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River valley in 2003- 2004, which was the highest among all lines involved in the national regional rapeseed variety trials. In the regional yield trials in Hubei Province, the average yield of Zhongyouza 11 reached 2 853 kg ha-1 (2002-2004), yielding more than the control variety Zhongshuang 6 by 11.34%. In the national trials, the yield of Zhongyouza 11 reached 2 405.7, 2 697.3, and 2770.2 kg ha-1 in the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley, yielding more than the control varieties by 11.52, 12.9, and 14.92%, respectively, in 2003-2005. Both the high oil content and high grain yield contributed to the high oil yield of Zhongyouza 11. The oil yield of Zhongyouza 11 in the national trials reached 1 083.3, 1 210.2, and 1224.8 kg ha-1, yielding more than the controls by 29.42, 27.65, and 20.98%, respectively, in the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the Yangtze River valley. The highest oil yield reached 1 369.65 kg ha-1 in the middle reach of the Yangtze River valley (2003-2004), with an increase of 46.21% compared to the control. The experimental sites distributed widely along the Yangtze River valley, cover most of the Chinese winter rapeseed production areas. Among the 89 experimental location/ years, the yield of Zhongyouza 11 surpassed the controls at 77 location/years in the trials, indicating its wide adaptability. Zhongyouza 11 was the only one that passed the national regional trials in all three regions along the Yangtze River valley simultaneously in 2005. It is also the first rapeseed variety that contained seed oil exceeding 46% and passed the national regional trials. This study shows that heterosis prediction by the means of estimation of genetic distance between parental lines using single sequence repeat (SSR) and sequence related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers is an efficient way for the reduction of tedious field trials and the acceleration of breeding procedure.展开更多

The built environment as we know it rarely finds itself adapting to its surrounding context, whether it be on the level of interaction with humans or the climate. Humans and nature both are in a constant state of flux;moving, changing, sensing, and reacting to their context and information they gather and perceive. A barrier is formed between the built environment and humans and nature due to the fact that their inherent characteristics are utterly contrasting. It is commonly estimated that persons in urban areas spend at least 80% of their time indoors. This suggests that the quality of the indoor environment can have a significant impact on comfort, health, and overall sense of well being. The indoor environment of buildings should thus be designed and controlled, as to provide a comfortable and healthy space for occupants. In order to maintain the quality of the indoor environment, we mechanically condition our buildings to achieve constant, uniform and comfortable environments. The maintenance of thermal equilibrium between the human body and its environment is one of the primary requirements. History of thermal comfort and climate design shows a definite relation between them and research is needed to know “What are comfort conditions?” and “How buildings could adapt themselves to these conditions”.展开更多

To evaluate the adaptability of BRE, the catastrophe-progression method was adopted for the evaluation. By analyzing the factors affecting the stability of BRE and utilizing engineering experience, we were able to establish the mathematical model and divide the adaptability of BRE into five grades. After the verifying analysis of 28 practical engineering examples, the evaluation results are broadly in line with practical application effects. Therefore, the adaptability of BRE can be evaluated and predicted more accurately with this evaluation model.展开更多

We ac- complish a mobile atom gravimeter. With the compact and stable system, a sensitivity of 1.4× 10-7 g.Hz-1/2 is achieved. Moreover, a continuous gravity monitoring of 80 h is carried out. However, the harsh outdoor environment is a big challenge for the atom gravimeter when it is for field applications. In this paper, we present the preliminary investigation of the thermal adaptability for our mobile cold atom gravimeter. Here, we focus on the influence of the air temperature on the performance of the atom gravimeter. The responses to different factors (such as laser power, fiber coupling efficiency, etc.) are evaluated when there is a great temperature shift of 10 ℃. The result is that the performances of all the factors deteriorate to different extent, nevertheless, they can easily recover as the temperature comes back. Finally, we conclude that the variation of air temperature induces the increase of noise and the system error of the atom gravimeter as well, while the process is reversible with the recovery of the temperature.展开更多

文摘Significant progress has been made in the exploration and development of unconventional gas resources in China since the beginning of the 21st century. With a rapid increase in yield, the exploration and development of shale gas have been upgraded to a level of national strategy.Logging is one of the core technologies in gas exploration and development. However, logging technologies face the challenges of complex geological conditions and well casing environment, high temperature, high pressure, and strong heterogeneity.Despite the rich experience accumulated, unified understanding and implementation specifications are yet to be established for shale gas well logging.Given the analysis and comparison of the effectiveness and adaptability of logging technologies at different stages of shale gas exploration and development for the Sichuan Basin, this study optimizes the log suite to meet the demand for highefficiency exploration and development of shale gas.According to the adaptability analysis of shale gas log suite, the mandatory logging items of exploratory wells should include caliper log(CAL),natural gamma ray spectrometry(NGS)log, spontaneous potential(SP)log, directional survey, borehole compensated sonic log,litho-density log(LDL),compensated neutron log(CNL),dual laterologmicrospherically focused log/dual induction-laterolog log/array induction log, temperature log, elemental capture spectroscopy(ECS)log, formation microimager(FMI)log, and array sonic log.The log suite of appraisal wells is almost the same as that for exploratory wells, excluding the ECS log and microresistivity scanning imaging.Meanwhile, for the logging of horizontal/highly-deviated holes, the log suite of vertical wells should be referred to according to specific well conditions.
文摘The study examined the nexus between operations improvement function (dimensioned by contingency planning, benchmarking and continuous improvement processes) and organisational adaptability of Petroleum tank farms in South-South, Nigeria. Furthermore, managers of Petroleum tank farms should make better the adoption of contingency planning, ensuring that there is as much necessary training and information for employees on how to act during a crises situation, in order to evaluate safety and prepare in advance for recovery from disasters.

文摘The control of balance is crucial for efficiently performing most of our daily motor tasks, such as those involving goal-directed arm movements or whole body displacement. However, it seems that, depending on the constraint, the "priority" of the CNS was focused on postural stability maintenance, on body protection and/or on maintenance of focal movement performance.

文摘Over the last few decades, waterlogging stress has increasingly threatened global cotton production.Waterlogging results in reduced soil oxygen, impairing the growth and development of this valuable crop and often resulting in severe yield loss or crop failure. However,as cotton has an indeterminate growth habit,it is able to adapt to waterlogging stress by activating three mechanisms:the escape, quiescence, and self-regulating compensation mechanisms. The escape mechanism includes accelerated growth, formation of adventitious roots, and production of aerenchyma. The quiescence mechanism involves reduced biomass accumulation and energy dissipation via physiological, biochemical, and molecular events. The self-regulation compensation mechanism allows plants to exploit their indeterminate growth habit and compensatory growth ability by accelerating growth and development following relief from waterlogging stress. We review how the growth and development of cotton is impaired by waterlogging, focusing on the three strategies associated with tolerance and adaptation to the stress. We discuss agronomic measures and prospects for mitigating the adverse effects of waterlogging stress.

文摘This study proposes a ladder gradient method for neutron and gamma-ray discrimination. The proposed method exhibited state-of-the-art performance with low time consumption, which incorporates two parts:information extraction and discrimination factor calculation.A quasi-continuous spiking cortical model was proposed to extract information from the radiation pulse signals, thus generating an ignition map corresponding to each pulse signal. The ignition map can be used to calculate the discrimination factor.A ladder gradient calculation was introduced to obtain a discrimination factor with low computational complexity. The proposed method was compared with five other discrimination methods to evaluate its robustness and efficacy.Furthermore, the filter adaptability of the pulse-coupled neural network and ladder gradient methods was investigated.Possible reasons for adapting the conditions with different discrimination methods and filters were analyzed.Experiments were conducted in 20 filtering situations with 11 types of filters to determine the most suitable filters for discrimination methods. The experimental results revealed that the three most adaptive filters of the pulse-coupled neural networks and ladder gradient methods are the wavelet, elliptic, and median filters and the elliptic, moving average, and wavelet filters, respectively.
文摘Using a three-line system of Shaan 2A cytoplasmic male sterility, a hybrid variety rapeseed, Zhongyouza 11, was developed by the combination of traditional methods and a molecular marker-assisted breeding technique. This study shows that heterosis prediction by the means of estimation of genetic distance between parental lines using single sequence repeat (SSR) and sequence related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers is an efficient way for the reduction of tedious field trials and the acceleration of breeding procedure.
文摘This paper deals with the human adaptability to its built environment. History of thermal comfort and climate design shows a definite relation between them and research is needed to know “What are comfort conditions?” and “How buildings could adapt themselves to these conditions”.

文摘Increasing rice yield potential is a continuous challenge posed by world population growth. To increase yield potential, favorable alleles of valuable genes need to be accumulated in promising germplasm. We conducted comparative yield trials for two years in Tsukuba,Japan,in a temperate region and at the International Rice Research Institute(IRRI),Philippines,in a tropical region using five high-yielding rice cultivars:Takanari and Hokuriku193,developed in Japan, and IR64,NSIC Rc158,and YTH183,developed in the Philippines.Genotype plus genotype×environment interaction(GGE)biplot analysis across four environments(two regions×two seasons)classified the five cultivars into four categories:Takanari and YTH183 showed high adaptability to both tropical and temperate regions,Hokuriku193 was suitable for temperate regions,NSIC Rc158 was suitable for the tropics, and IR64 was inferior to the other cultivars in both regions. The high yield and adaptability in Takanari and YTH183 were attributed to their large sink capacity with good grain filling. The plant type for high yield was different, however, between the two cultivars;Takanari was a panicle-weight type, whereas YTH183 was a panicle-number type.Evaluations of F2 progeny of a cross between Takanari and YTH183 showed transgressive segregation for number of panicles per plant as well as number of spikelets per panicle, leading some F2 plants to produce more spikelets per plant(corresponding to larger sink size)than the parental cultivars in both regions. These results suggest the possibility of developing rice cultivars with high yield potential in both temperate and tropical regions by crossing temperate with tropical high-yielding cultivars.
文摘As an effective solution for protecting the underlying permafrost and preventing roadway damages, the block-rock embankment(BRE) has been widely used on the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, Qinghai–Tibet Highway, and Ching–Hong Road;and it will be promoted for other roadways in the future. Therefore, the adaptability of BRE can be evaluated and predicted more accurately with this evaluation model.

文摘Archaea regulate the biogeochemical processes of ocean systems. The Changjiang(Yangtze)River estuary(CRE) is a complex and dynamic area strongly affected by seawaters and ocean currents. In this study, the planktonic archaeal communities in the surface and bottom seawaters of the CRE were investigated.Significant differences in the archaeal community composition were found between the surface and bottom seawaters(P<0.001).Marine Group Ⅱ(MG-Ⅱ) was dominant in the surface layers, and Nitrosopumilales was enriched in the bottom layers.Marine Group Ⅲ(MG-Ⅲ) was more abundant in the bottom layers than in the surface ones(P<0.001).These results were completely different from previous findings in the CRE seawater.Instead of dissolved oxygen(DO),temperature and salinity were the most vital environmental variations in the distribution of the archacal communities.According to the predicted metabolic pathways, the following functional subcategories were enriched in the hypoxic condition:replication and repair, membrane transport, glycan biosynthesis and metabolism, amino acid metabolism, metabolism of cofactors and vitamins, and xenobiotics biodegradation and metabolism(P<0.001),which indicated the strong adaptability of archaea to the harsh environment in the bottom seawater. These findings expand the understanding on archaeal structure and functions in the surface and bottom seawaters, including the hypoxic zones in the CRE,and may contribute to further works of the archaeal community in the CRE.

文摘The cold atom gravimeter offers the prospect of a new generation of inertial sensors for field applications. Finally, we conclude that the variation of air temperature induces the increase of noise and the system error of the atom gravimeter as well, while the process is reversible with the recovery of the temperature.
