Exosomes originating from neural stem cells undergoing necroptosis participate in cellular communication by inducing TSC2 upregulation of recipient cells following spinal cord injury

We previously demonstrated that inhibiting neural stem cells necroptosis enhances functional recovery after spinal cord injury.While exosomes are recognized as playing a pivotal role in neural stem cells exocrine function,their precise function in spinal cord injury remains unclear.To investigate the role of exosomes generated following neural stem cells necroptosis after spinal cord injury,we conducted singlecell RNA sequencing and validated that neural stem cells originate from ependymal cells and undergo necroptosis in response to spinal cord injury.Subsequently,we established an in vitro necroptosis model using neural stem cells isolated from embryonic mice aged 16-17 days and extracted exosomes.The results showed that necroptosis did not significantly impact the fundamental characteristics or number of exosomes.Transcriptome sequencing of exosomes in necroptosis group identified 108 differentially expressed messenger RNAs,104 long non-coding RNAs,720 circular RNAs,and 14 microRNAs compared with the control group.Construction of a competing endogenous RNA network identified the following hub genes:tuberous sclerosis 2(Tsc2),solute carrier family 16 member 3(Slc16a3),and forkhead box protein P1(Foxp1).Notably,a significant elevation in TSC2 expression was observed in spinal cord tissues following spinal cord injury.TSC2-positive cells were localized around SRY-box transcription factor 2-positive cells within the injury zone.Furthermore,in vitro analysis revealed increased TSC2 expression in exosomal receptor cells compared with other cells.Further assessment of cellular communication following spinal cord injury showed that Tsc2 was involved in ependymal cellular communication at 1 and 3 days post-injury through the epidermal growth factor and midkine signaling pathways.In addition,Slc16a3 participated in cellular communication in ependymal cells at 7 days post-injury via the vascular endothelial growth factor and macrophage migration inhibitory factor signaling pathways.Collectively,these findings confirm that exosomes derived from neural stem cells undergoing necroptosis play an important role in cellular communication after spinal cord injury and induce TSC2 upregulation in recipient cells. 展开更多

Text-and-Timbre-Based Speech Semantic Coding for Ultra-Low-Bitrate Communications

To address the contradiction between the explosive growth of wireless data and the limited spectrum resources,semantic communication has been emerging as a promising communication paradigm.In this paper,we thus design a speech semantic coded communication system,referred to as Deep-STS(i.e.,Deep-learning based Speech To Speech),for the lowbandwidth speech communication.Specifically,we first deeply compress the speech data through extracting the textual information from the speech based on the conformer encoder and connectionist temporal classification decoder at the transmitter side of Deep-STS system.In order to facilitate the final speech timbre recovery,we also extract the short-term timbre feature of speech signals only for the starting 2s duration by the long short-term memory network.Then,the Reed-Solomon coding and hybrid automatic repeat request protocol are applied to improve the reliability of transmitting the extracted text and timbre feature over the wireless channel.Third,we reconstruct the speech signal by the mel spectrogram prediction network and vocoder,when the extracted text is received along with the timbre feature at the receiver of Deep-STS system.Finally,we develop the demo system based on the USRP and GNU radio for the performance evaluation of Deep-STS.Numerical results show that the ac-Received:Jan.17,2024 Revised:Jun.12,2024 Editor:Niu Kai curacy of text extraction approaches 95%,and the mel cepstral distortion between the recovered speech signal and the original one in the spectrum domain is less than 10.Furthermore,the experimental results show that the proposed Deep-STS system can reduce the total delay of speech communication by 85%on average compared to the G.723 coding at the transmission rate of 5.4 kbps.More importantly,the coding rate of the proposed Deep-STS system is extremely low,only 0.2 kbps for continuous speech communication.It is worth noting that the Deep-STS with lower coding rate can support the low-zero-power speech communication,unveiling a new era in ultra-efficient coded communications. 展开更多

This paper studies the sensing base station(SBS)that has great potential to improve the safety of vehicles and pedestrians on roads.SBS can detect the targets on the road with communication signals using the integrated sensing and communication(ISAC)technique.Compared with vehicle-mounted radar,SBS has a better sensing field due to its higher deployment position,which can help solve the problem of sensing blind areas.In this paper,key technologies of SBS are studied,including the beamforming algorithm,beam scanning scheme,and interference cancellation algorithm.To transmit and receive ISAC signals simultaneously,a double-coupling antenna array is applied.The free detection beam and directional communication beam are proposed for joint communication and sensing to meet the requirements of beamwidth and pointing directions.The joint timespace-frequency domain division multiple access algorithm is proposed to cancel the interference of SBS,including multiuser interference and duplex interference between sensing and communication.Finally,the sensing and communication performance of SBS under the industrial scientific medical power limitation is analyzed and simulated.Simulation results show that the communication rate of SBS can reach over 100 Mbps and the range of sensing and communication can reach about 500 m. 展开更多

Wireless communications in extreme environments,such as underwater and underground,is an essential technology for interconnecting various devices and enables data transmission and networking.Existing wireless technologies using electromagnetic(EM)waves face many known problems,such as high path loss,unpredictable multi-path fading,and large antenna size in the lossy medium.In this article,the magnetic induction(MI)based physical layer communication is introduced as a promising solution for wireless transmissions in extreme environments.Specifically,the fundamentals of the MI-based communications are reviewed.Then,with the goal of establishing reliable and low-power links between small-size devices,we review several key physical layer technologies for MI-based communications,including the MIbased signal modulations,magnetic beamforming,and relay transmissions,and summarize their state-of-theart research advances.Finally,the related open issues and challenges in each area are analyzed and presented for future investigations. 展开更多

Energy Efficient Dual User Association for Large Scale IRS-Aided mmWave Communication Networks

The deployment of multiple intelligent reflecting surfaces(IRSs)in blockage-prone millimeter wave(mmWave)communication networks have garnered considerable attention lately.Despite the remarkably low circuit power consumption per IRS element,the aggregate energy consumption becomes substantial if all elements of an IRS are turned on given a considerable number of IRSs,resulting in lower overall energy efficiency(EE).To tackle this challenge,we propose a flexible and efficient approach that individually controls the status of each IRS element.Specifically,the network EE is maximized by jointly optimizing the associations of base stations(BSs)and user equipments(UEs),transmit beamforming,phase shifts of IRS elements,and the associations of individual IRS elements and UEs.The problem is efficiently addressed in two phases.First,the Gale-Shapley algorithm is applied for BS-UE association,followed by a block coordinate descent-based algorithm that iteratively solves the subproblems related to active beamforming,phase shifts,and element-UE associations.To reduce the tremendous dimensionality of optimization variables introduced by element-UE associations in large-scale IRS networks,we introduce an efficient algorithm to solve the associations between IRS elements and UEs.Numerical results show that the proposed elementwise control scheme improves EE by 34.24% compared to the network with IRS-all-on scheme. 展开更多

In order to solve the problem of inter-vehicle communication (IVC) in vast and desolate areas such as the desert and the Gobi, two vehicle network models are proposed. One is based on satellite communication and the other is based on high altitude platform ( HAP ) communication. The system outline and networking modes of the two models are described. In the satellite communication based model, all the vehicles are equipped with vehicle-bone satellite communication on the move terminals and the communication signals between vehicles are forwarded by satellite. In the high altitude platform-based model, the HAPs are equipped with base station facilities to form aerial base stations, and vehicles can communicate with each other via common terrestrial mobile communication devices. Some key parameters such as path loss, link loss and system capacity are also computed. The analysis shows that both the two models can satisfy the requirement of IVC in the descriptive environment. 展开更多

This study explores the application of single photon detection(SPD)technology in underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC)and analyzes the influence of different modulation modes and error correction coding types on communication performance.The study investigates the impact of on-off keying(OOK)and 2-pulse-position modulation(2-PPM)on the bit error rate(BER)in single-channel intensity and polarization multiplexing.Furthermore,it compares the error correction performance of low-density parity check(LDPC)and Reed-Solomon(RS)codes across different error correction coding types.The effects of unscattered photon ratio and depolarization ratio on BER are also verified.Finally,a UWOC system based on SPD is constructed,achieving 14.58 Mbps with polarization OOK multiplexing modulation and 4.37 Mbps with polarization 2-PPM multiplexing modulation using LDPC code error correction. 展开更多

Adaptive Resource Allocation Algorithm for 5G Vehicular Cloud Communication

The current resource allocation in 5G vehicular networks for mobile cloud communication faces several challenges,such as low user utilization,unbalanced resource allocation,and extended adaptive allocation time.We propose an adaptive allocation algorithm for mobile cloud communication resources in 5G vehicular networks to address these issues.This study analyzes the components of the 5G vehicular network architecture to determine the performance of different components.It is ascertained that the communication modes in 5G vehicular networks for mobile cloud communication include in-band and out-of-band modes.Furthermore,this study analyzes the single-hop and multi-hop modes in mobile cloud communication and calculates the resource transmission rate and bandwidth in different communication modes.The study also determines the scenario of one-way and two-way vehicle lane cloud communication network connectivity,calculates the probability of vehicle network connectivity under different mobile cloud communication radii,and determines the amount of cloud communication resources required by vehicles in different lane scenarios.Based on the communication status of users in 5G vehicular networks,this study calculates the bandwidth and transmission rate of the allocated channels using Shannon’s formula.It determines the adaptive allocation of cloud communication resources,introduces an objective function to obtain the optimal solution after allocation,and completes the adaptive allocation process.The experimental results demonstrate that,with the application of the proposed method,the maximum utilization of user communication resources reaches approximately 99%.The balance coefficient curve approaches 1,and the allocation time remains under 2 s.This indicates that the proposed method has higher adaptive allocation efficiency. 展开更多

Many of these devices simultaneously share data to form anautomated system. The data shared between machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) is prone to risk dueto limited computational power, internal memory, and energy capacity. Therefore, securing the data and devicesbecomes challenging due to factors such as dynamic operational environments, remoteness, harsh conditions,and areas where human physical access is difficult. Large numbers of basic transceiver stations,where the telecommunication room is one of the main components,comprise an important part of the telecommunication system.After earthquakes,considerable economic loss from telecommunication systems is often associated with seismic damage and functional loss of the telecommunication room.However,research related to this has been limited.In this study,shaking table tests were conducted for a full-scale typical telecommunication room,including a light-steel house and the necessary communication and power supply equipment.The tests not only focused on the seismic damage to all the structures but also considered the functions of the communication and power supply of the equipment.The interactions between these facilities and their effects on communication function were also investigated.Compared with the damage to structures,the interruption of the power supply due to earthquakes is a weak link.Finally,the damage indexes,together with their threshold values of different damage states for the communication and power supply equipment,were derived from the test results.The results of this research can contribute to the literature gaps regarding seismic performance studies of telecommunication rooms,and can serve as a valuable reference for future research on its seismic fragility and economic losses evaluation. 展开更多

Performance Characterization of Visible Light Communication Based on GaN High-Voltage LED/PD

While considerable research has been conducted on the structural principles,fabrication techniques,and photoelectric properties of high-voltage light-emitting diodes(LEDs),their performance in light communication remains underexplored.A high-voltage seriesconnected LED or photodetector(HVS-LED/PD)based on the gallium nitride(GaN)integrated photoelectronic chip is presented in this paper.Multi-quantum wells(MQW)diodes with identical structures are integrated onto a single chip through wafer-scale micro-fabrication techniques and connected in series to construct the HVS-LED/PD.The advantages of the HVS-LED/PD in communication are explored by testing its performance as both a light transmitter and a PD.The series connection enhances the device's 3 dB bandwidth,allowing it to increase from 1.56 MHz to a minimum of 2.16 MHz when functioning as an LED,and from 47.42 kHz to at least 85.83 kHz when operating as a PD.The results demonstrate that the light communication performance of HVS-LED/PD is better than that of a single GaN MQW diode with bandwidth and transmission quantity,which enriches the research of GaN-based high-voltage devices. 展开更多

A cooperative passive sensing framework for millimeter wave(mmWave)communication systems is proposed and demonstrated in a scenario with one mobile signal blocker.Specifically,in the uplink communication with at least two transmitters,a cooperative detection method is proposed for the receiver to track the blocker’s trajectory,localize the transmitters and detect the potential link blockage jointly.To facilitate detection,the receiver collects the signal of each transmitter along a line-of-sight(LoS)path and a non-line-of-sight(NLoS)path separately via two narrow-beam phased arrays.The NLoS path involves scattering at the mobile blocker,allowing its identification through the Doppler frequency.By comparing the received signals of both paths,the Doppler frequency and angle-of-arrival(AoA)of the NLoS path can be estimated.To resolve the blocker’s trajectory and the transmitters’locations,the receiver should continuously track the mobile blocker to accumulate sufficient numbers of the Doppler frequency and AoA versus time observations.Finally,a gradient-descent-based algorithm is proposed for joint detection.With the reconstructed trajectory,the potential link blockage can be predicted.It is demonstrated that the system can achieve decimeterlevel localization and trajectory estimation,and predict the blockage time with an error of less than 0.1 s. 展开更多

Our mixed-methods approach, which combines a comprehensive literature review with case studies of five multinational corporations, allows us to investigate the applications, challenges, and ethical implications of leveraging predictive models in communication strategies. While our findings reveal significant potential for enhancing personalized content delivery, real-time sentiment analysis, and proactive crisis management, we stress the need for careful consideration of challenges such as data privacy concerns and algorithmic bias. This emphasis on ethical implementation is crucial in navigating the complex landscape of predictive analytics in corporate communications. To address these issues, we propose a framework that prioritizes ethical considerations. With the rapid development of information technology,5G communication technology has gradually entered real life,among which the application of edge computing is particularly significant in the information and communication system field.This paper focuses on using edge computing based on 5G communication in information and communication systems.First,the study analyzes the importance of combining edge computing technology with 5G communication technology,and its advantages,such as high efficiency and low latency in processing large amounts of data.The study then explores multiple application scenarios of edge computing in information and communication systems,such as integrated use in the Internet of Things,intelligent transportation,telemedicine and Industry 4.0.The research method is mainly based on theoretical analysis and experimental verification,combined with the characteristics of the 5G network to optimize the edge computing model and test the performance of edge computing in different scenarios through experimental simulation.The results show that edge computing significantly improves the data processing capacity and response speed of ICS in a 5G environment.However,there are also a series of challenges in practical application,including data security and privacy protection,the complexity of resource management and allocation,and the guarantee of quality of service(QoS).Through the case analysis and problem analysis,the paper puts forward the corresponding solution strategies,such as strengthening the data security protocol,introducing the intelligent resource scheduling system and establishing a multi-dimensional service quality monitoring mechanism.Finally,this study points out that the deep integration of edge computing and 5G communication will continue to promote the innovative development of information and communication systems,which has a far-reaching impact and important practical significance for promoting the transformation and upgrading in the field of information technology. 展开更多
