HRPSD and their changes in total(T), very low-frequence(VLF), low-frequence(LF), high-frequence(HF) and the ratio of low/high frequence(LF/HF) were similar (P>0.05) 5 minutes before and after tilting among three groups. Five minutes before the end of test, Group 1 had obvious increase of T, VLF, LF and LF/HF while Group 2 and 3 had not such significant changes. There was significant difference(P<0.01) compared Group 1 with Group 2, 3. The results showed that the abnormal regulatory function of autonomic nervous system played an important role in the mechanism of symcope induced by HUT, the positive group had abnormal increase of sympathetic tone and imbalance of sympathetic/parasympathetic neural tone before syncope appeared.展开更多

The use of Heart rate variability (HRV) has become increasingly popular as a non-invasive methodology that provides an indirect insight into the autonomic nervous system. HRV can be utilized as a diagnostic tool in detection of autonomic nervous system impairment and sympatho-vagal imbalance. HRV technology is employed to monitor the internal response of athletes to workload and identify athletes’s psychophysical stress to predict and therefore prevent injuries. Objective: The objective of the investigation is to establish whether the use of Polar H10 sensor heart rate monitors worn by athletes in a sitting position (inclination 60 degrees) during periods characterized by stress can provide a valid and non-invasive method to assess the psychophysiological state during sports competition and school exams. Method and Statistics: In the study, the HRV of 12 basketball students athletes and 4 students non-athletes was analyzed as a control group. The autonomic nervous system activity was assessed based on heart variability parameters (HRV): SDNN, rMSSD, LF, HF, and LF/HF. The measurements were made after establishing the baseline at rest, during the training phase (CT), competition phase (CC) and during the acute phase of stressors due to school exams coinciding with the competitive season (CC + E). Results: Compared to the respective values prior to the stress of the competitions and exams, a significant decrease in HRV indices was found: SDNN (P Conclusions: The analysis and examination of the data on the sample of the student population also showed a statistically significant correlation between decreased cardiac variability and injuries or indisposition to physical exertion.展开更多

The output from such a system is probably the result of both its internal dynamics, and the input to the system from its surroundings. We present an optimization algorithm to find a time series that is as close as possible to the heart rate series subject to the constraint that it is deterministic with respect to some dynamics. The algorithm is tested by some famous forced dynamical systems, and applied to heart rate data. We find that the deterministic components of heart rate variability are chaotic.展开更多

Methods We conducted a panel study for elderly subjects with heart disease in Beijing from 2007 to 2008. PM2.5 was measured at a fixed station for 20 h continuously each day while electrocardiogram (ECG) indexes of 42 subjects were also recorded repeatedly. Meteorological data was obtained from the China Meteorological Data Sharing Service System. A mixed linear regression model was used to estimate the associations between PMz.s and the ECG indexes. The model was adjusted for age, body mass index, sex, day of the week and meteorology. Results Significant adverse effects of PM2.5 on ECG indexes reflecting HRV were observed statistically and the strongest effect of PM2.s on HRV was on lag i day in our study. However, there were no associations between PM2.5 and ECG indexes reflecting heart repolarization/depolarization. Additionally, the effects of PM2.5 on subjects with hypertension were larger than on the subjects without hypertension. Conclusion This study showed ambient PM2.5could affect cardiac autonomic function of the elderly people with heart disease, and subjects with hypertension appeared to be more susceptive to the autonomic dysfunction induced by PM2.5.展开更多

However, their combined ef- fect on mortality in stages of hypertension according to updated clinical guidelines among dderly population is unclear. Methods We fol- lowed a cohort of 6100 residents (2600 males and 3500 females) of Kangwha County, Korea, ranging from 55 to 99 year-olds as of March 1985, for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality for 20.8 years until December 31, 2005. Mortality data were collected through telephone calls and visits (to 1991), and were confirmed by death record matching with the National Statistical Office (1992-2005). Hazard ratios were calculated for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality by resting heart rate and hypertension defined by Eighth Joint National Committee crite- ria using the Cox proportional hazard model after controlling for confounding factors. Results The hazard ratios associated with resting heart rate 〉 80 beats/min were higher in hypertensive men compared with normotensives with heart rate of 61-79 beats/rain, with hazard ratios values of 1.43 (95% CI: 1.00-1.92) on all-cause mortality for prehypertension, 3.01 (95% CI: 1.07-8.28) on cardiovascular mortality for prehypertension, and 8.34 (95% CI: 2.52-28.19) for stage 2 hypertension. Increased risk (HR: 3.54, 95% CI: 1.16-9.21) was observed among those with both a resting heart rate 〉 80 beats/rain and prehypertension on cardiovascular mortality in women. Conclusions Indi- viduals with coexisting elevated resting heart rate and hypertension, even in prehypertension, have a greater risk for all-cause and cardiovas- cular mortality compared to those with elevated resting heart rate or hypertension alone. These findings suggest that elevated resting heart rate should not be regarded as a less serious risk factor in elderly hypertensive patients.展开更多

Follow-up of the patients was performed via telephone interviews a median of 25 mo after the index event (95%CI of the mean 23.3-28.0). Primary end-point was occurrence of all-cause or cardiac death; secondary end-point was occurrence of major clinical events (MCE, defined as mortality or readmission for new MI, new revascularization, episodes of heart failure or stroke). Possible correlations between HRV parameters (mainly the standard deviation of all normal RR intervals, SDNN), clinical features (age, sex, type of MI, history of diabetes, left ventricle ejection fraction), angiographic characteristics (number of coronary arteries with critical stenoses, success and completeness of revascularization) and long-term outcomes were analysed.RESULTSMarkedly depressed HRV parameters were present in a relatively small percentage of patients: SDNN < 70 ms was found in 16% and SDNN < 50 ms in 4% of cases. No significant differences were present between STEMI and NSTEMI cases as regards to their distribution among quartiles of SDNN (χ2 =1.536, P = 0.674). Female sex and history of diabetes maintained a significant correlation with lower values of SDNN at multivariate Cox regression analysis (respectively: P = 0.008 and P = 0.008), while no correlation was found between depressed SDNN and history of previous MI (P = 0.999) or number of diseased coronary arteries (P = 0.428) or unsuccessful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) (P = 0.691). Patients with left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) < 40% presented more often SDNN values in the lowest quartile (P < 0.001). After > 2 years from infarction, a total of 10 patients (3.1%) were lost to follow-up. Overall incidence of MCE at follow-up was similar between STEMI and NSTEMI (P = 0.141), although all-cause and cardiac mortality were higher among NSTEMI cases (respectively: 14% vs 2%, P = 0.001; and 10% vs 1.5%, P = 0.001). The Kaplan-Meier survival curves for all-cause mortality and for cardiac deaths did not reveal significant differences between patients with SDNN in the lowest quartile and other quartiles of SDNN (respectively: P = 0.137 and P = 0.527). Also the MCE-free survival curves were similar between the group of patients with SDNN in the lowest quartile vs the patients of the other SDNN quartiles (P = 0.540), with no difference for STEMI (P = 0.180) or NSTEMI patients (P = 0.541). By the contrary, events-free survival was worse if patients presented with LVEF < 40% (P = 0.001).CONCLUSIONIn our group of patients with a recent complicated MI, abnormal autonomic parameters have been found with a prevalence that was similar for STEMI and NSTEMI cases, and substantially unchanged in comparison to what reported in the pre-primary-PCI era. Long-term outcomes did not correlate with level of depression of HRV parameters recorded in the subacute phase of the disease, both in STEMI and in NSTEMI patients. These results support lack of prognostic significance of traditional HRV parameters when immediate coronary reperfusion is utilised.展开更多

Methods We recruited community-based individuals who were 40-60 years old using a cluster sampling method. The PA levels of the participants were classified as low, moderate, or high, using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Dyslipidemia was defined as the detection of abnormalities in lipid indicators, and 4 lipid parameters were evaluated using fasting blood samples. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations of PA with dyslipidemia and RHR. Results A total of 10,321 participants (38.88% men) were included in this study. The percentages of individuals with high, moderate, and low PA levels were 46.5%, 43.9%, and 9.6%, respectively. In both men and women, high PA provided odds ratios of 0.88 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.83, 0.94] for dyslipidemia and 0.82 (95% CI: 0.73, 0.92) for elevated RHR, compared to participants with low PA. Conclusion Our data suggested that substantial health benefits (related to dyslipidemia and elevated RHR) occurred at higher intensity PA, with greater energy consumption, in middle-aged Chinese people, and particularly in men.展开更多

Methods A total of 9 415 subjects aged≥40 years were included in the present study. Their resting heart rate was monitored and their serum levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured to define dyslipidemia according to the 2007 Chinese Guidelines on Prevention and Treatment of Dyslipidemia in Adults. Results The subjects were divided into group A with their resting heart rate〈70 beats/min, group B with their resting heart rate=70-79 beats/min, group C with their resting heart rate=80-89 beats/min, and group D with their resting heart rate≥90 beats/min. High TG, TC, and LDL-C were presented across the resting heart rate (Ptrend〈0.01). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the risk of high TG and TC was higher in subjects with their resting heart rate≥90 beats/min than in those with their resting heart rate〈70 beats/min (OR=1.42;95%CI:1.16-1.74 and OR=1.33;95%CI:1.09-1.64, respectively). Conclusion Elevated resting heart rate is associated with high TG and TC in middle-aged and elderly Chinese subjects.展开更多

HRV has been shown to be effective as a predictor of risk after myocardial infarction and an early warning sign of diabetic neuropathy, and in the cardiology setting is now recognized to be a useful tool for risk-stratification after hospital admission and after discharge. Recent evidences suggest that HRV analysis might predict complications even in patients undergoing cardiac surgery, and the present review summarizes the importance of HRV analysis in adult cardiac surgery and the perspectives for HRV use in current clinical practice. Although future larger studies are warranted before HRV can be included into daily clinical practice in adult cardiac surgery, HRV is a novel tool which might detect autonomic instability in the early postoperative phase and during hospital stay, thus predicting or prompt-diagnosing many of the post-operative complications.展开更多

A reduction in elevated resting heart rate (HR) has long been postulated as a therapeutic approach in the management of cardiovascular disease. An increased HR has been shown to be associated with increased progression of coronary atherosclerosis in animal models and patients. A high HR has also been associated with a greatly increased risk of plaque rupture in patients with coronary atherosclerosis. Endothelial function may be an important link between HR and atherosclerosis. An increased HR has been shown experimentally to cause endothelial dysfunction. Inflammation plays a significant role in the pathogenesis and progression of atherosclerosis. In the literature, there is data that shows an association between HR and circulating markers of vascular inflammation. In addition, HR reduction by pharmacological intervention with ivabradine (a selective HR-lowering agent that acts by inhibiting the pacemaker ionic current If in sinoatrial node cells) reduces the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in animal models of lipid-induced atherosclerosis. The aim of this editorial is to review the possible role of ivabradine on atherosclerosis.展开更多

Methods: The HR was recorded in six conscious Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. An implanted chip system was designed to regulate the HR by stimulating the right cervical vagus nerve according to the feedback of real time HR. Each rat was subjected to 30-min regulation and 30-min recovery. The change of HR during the regulation period was compared with the control. The ECG was recorded during the experiment for 24 h. Results: The ECG signals were successfully recorded during the experiment. The HR was significantly decreased during the period of regulation compared with control (-79.3 ± 34.5, P 〈 0.01, n = 6) and then recovered to normal after regulation. Conclusion: The described implanted chip system can regulate the HR to a designated set point.展开更多

Simultaneous 24-h recordings of ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring were performed in 36 male old patients with simple EH and 33 male old patients with EH combined with T2DM. HRV analysis included time domain parameters such as SDNN, SDANN, SDNNi, rMSSD and pNN50, and total spectral power (TP) of HRV, which mainly consists of VLF, LF and HF component along with LF/HF ratio, was also obtained. The value of ambulatory blood pressure was represented as the mean blood pressure (mean systolic/mSBP, diastolic/mDBP and pulse pressure/mPP) during different periods (24 h/24 h, day time/d and night time/n). Standard deviation (SD) as well as coefficient of variance (CV) of blood pressure during each above-mentioned period were obtained to reflect the long-term BPV. Our result showed that SDNN, SDNNi, SDANN, rMSSD, PNN50, TP and HF of HRV in cases of EH with T2DM were all significantly lower than those in simple EH subjects (P〈0.05). No significant differences in VLF or LF was found between the two groups (P〉0.05), while LF/HF ratio was significantly higher in EH with T2DM patients than in simple EH subjects (P〈0.01). Moreover, dmSBP, 24 h-mPP and dmPP were all significantly higher in EH with T2DM patients than in simple EH subjects (P〈0.05), while nmSBP, 24 h-mSBP, 24 h-mDBP, dmDBP, nmDBP or nmPP showed no significant difference between this two groups of patients (P〉0.05). And dSBPSD, dSBPCV and 24 h-SBPSD were all significantly higher in EH with T2DM patients than in simple EH subjects (P〈0.05), while the other BPV indexes showed no significant difference between this two groups (P〉0.05). It is concluded that the cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems in EH patients was further impaired by T2DM, displaying lowering of HRV and enlargement of BPV, which in turn induced abnormal structural and functional changes of cardiovascular systems. Therefore, improving cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems might reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular complications in the EH patients with IGM.展开更多

Methods Forty-seven consecutive patients with relatively higher HR (>65 and <100 bpm) (20 male, 27 female; age 55±10 years) who both underwent dual-source CTCA and CCA were prospectively included in this study. All patients were performed CTCA using high pitch mode setting at 20%-30% of the R-R interval for the image acquisition. All coronary segments were evaluated by two blinded and independent observers with regard to image quality on a three-point scale (1: excellent to 3: non-diagnostic) and for the presence of significant coronary stenoses (defined as diameter narrowing exceeding 50%). Considered CCA as the standard of reference, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were calculated. Radiation dose values were calculated using the dose-length product. Results Image quality was rated as being score 1 in 92.4% of segments, score 2 in 6.1% of segmentsand score 3 in 1.5% of segments. The average image quality score per segment was 1.064±0.306. The HR variability of patients with image score 1, 2 and 3 were 2.29±1.06 bpm, 5.17±1.37 bpm, 8.88±1.53 bpm, respectively. The average HR variability of patients with different image scores were significantly different (F=170.402, P=0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 92.6%, 97.0%, 87.6%, 98.3%, respectively, per segment and 90.0%, 95.2%, 85.3%, 96.9%, respectively, per vessel and 100%, 63.6%, 90.0%, 100%, respectively, per patient. The effective radiation dose was on average 0.86±0.16 mSv. Conclusion In patients with HR more than 65 bpm and below 100 bpm without cardiac arrhythmia, the prospectively electrocardiogram-gated high-pitch spiral acquisition mode with image acquired timing set at 20%-30% of the R-R interval provides a high diagnostic accuracy for the assessment of coronary stenoses combined with a 1.5% of non-diagnostic coronary segments and a radiation dose below 1 mSv.展开更多

文摘To study the role of autonomic nervous system in the period of developing syncope induced by head-up tilt test(HUT), we analysed the changes of heart rate power spectral density(HRPSD) in 50 patients with unexplained syncope, including 15 positive patients (Group 1) and 35 negative patients(Group 2), and 15 negative healthy persons(Group 3) in 5 minute periods before and after tilting and 5 minutes before the end of test. The results showed that the abnormal regulatory function of autonomic nervous system played an important role in the mechanism of symcope induced by HUT, the positive group had abnormal increase of sympathetic tone and imbalance of sympathetic/parasympathetic neural tone before syncope appeared.

文摘Deception detection plays a crucial role in criminal investigation.Videos contain a wealth of information regarding apparent and physiological changes in individuals, and thus can serve as an effective means of deception detection. In this paper,we investigate video-based deception detection considering both apparent visual features such as eye gaze, head pose and facial action unit(AU),and non-contact heart rate detected by remote photoplethysmography(rPPG)technique.Multiple wrapper-based feature selection methods combined with the K-nearest neighbor(KNN)and support vector machine(SVM)classifiers are employed to screen the most effective features for deception detection. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method on both a self-collected physiological-assisted visual deception detection(PV3D)dataset and a public bag-oflies(BOL)dataset.Experimental results demonstrate that the SVM classifier with symbiotic organisms search(SOS)feature selection yields the best overall performance, with an area under the curve(AUC)of 83.27%and accuracy(ACC)of 83.33%for PV3D,and an AUC of 71.18%and ACC of 70.33%for BOL.This demonstrates the stability and effectiveness of the proposed method in video-based deception detection tasks.

文摘Heart rate is an important vital characteristic which indicates physical and mental health status.Typically heart rate measurement instruments require direct contact with the skin which is time-consuming and costly. Therefore, the study of non-contact heart rate measurement methods is of great importance.Based on the principles of photoelectric volumetric tracing,we use a computer device and camera to capture facial images, accurately detect face regions, and to detect multiple facial images using a multi-target tracking algorithm. Then after the regional segmentation of the facial image, the signal acquisition of the region of interest is further resolved. Finally, frequency detection of the collected Photo-plethysmography(PPG)and Electrocardiography(ECG)signals is completed with peak detection,Fourier analysis, and a Waveletfilter. The experimental results show that the subject’s heart rate can be detected quickly and accurately even when monitoring multiple facial targets simultaneously.

文摘BACKGROUND Our previous study found that the telomerase-associated protein 1(TEP1,rs938886 and rs1713449)and homo sapiens RecQ like helicase 5(RECQL5,rs820196)single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were associated with changes in heart rate(HR)≥30%during peritoneal lavage with distilled water after gastrectomy. This study established a single tube method for detecting these three SNPs using two-dimensional(2D)polymerase chain reaction(PCR),and investigated whether SNP-SNP and SNP-environment interactions increase the risk of high HR variability(HRV).AIM To investigate whether genotypes, genetic patterns,SNP-SNP and SNP-environment interactions were associated with HRV.METHODS 2D PCR was used to establish a single-tube method to detect TEP1 rs938886 and rs1713449 and RECQL5 rs820196,and the results were compared with those of sanger sequencing. After adjusting for confounders such as age, sex, smoking, hypertension, and thyroid dysfunction,a nonconditional logistic regression model was used to assess the associations between the genotypes and the genetic patterns(codominant, dominant, overdominant, recessive, and additive)of the three SNPs and a risk≥15%or≥30%of a sudden drop in HR during postoperative peritoneal lavage in patients with gastric cancer.Gene-gene and geneenvironment interactions were analyzed using generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction.RESULTS The coincidence rate between the 2D PCR and sequencing was 100%.When the HRV cutoff value was 15%,the patients with the RECQL5(rs820196)TC genotype had a higher risk of high HRV than those who had the TT genotype(odds ratio=1.97;95%CI:1.05-3.70;P=0.045).Under the codominant and overdominant models, the TC genotype of RECQL5(rs820196)was associated with a higher risk of HR decrease relative to the TT and TT+CC genotypes(P=0.031 and 0.016,respectively).When the HRV cutoff value was 30%,patients carrying the GC-TC genotypes of rs938886 and rs820196 showed a higher HRV risk when compared with the GG–TT genotype carriers(P=0.01).In the three-factor model of rs938886,rs820196,and rs1713449,patients carrying the GC-TC-CT genotype had a higher risk of HRV compared with the wild-type GG-TT-CC carriers(P=0.01).For rs820196,nonsmokers with the TC genotype had a higher HRV risk compared with nonsmokers carrying the TT genotype(P=0.04).When the HRV cutoff value was 15%,patients carrying the TT-TT and the TC-CT genotypes of rs820196 and rs1713449 showed a higher HRV risk when compared with TT-CC genotype carriers(P=0.04 and 0.01,respectively).Patients carrying the GC-CT-TC genotypes of rs938886,rs1713449,and rs820196 showed a higher HRV risk compared with GG-CC-TT genotype carriers(P=0.02).When the HRV cutoff value was 15%,the best-fitting models for the interactions between the SNPs and the environment were the rs820196-smoking(P=0.022)and rs820196-hypertension(P=0.043)models.Consistent with the results of the previous grouping, for rs820196,the TC genotype nonsmokers had a higher HRV risk compared with nonsmokers carrying the TT genotype(P=0.01).CONCLUSION The polymorphism of the RECQL5 and TEP1 genes were associated with HRV during peritoneal lavage with distilled water after gastrectomy.

文摘Pulse rate is one of the important characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis, and it is of great significance for determining the nature of cold and heat in diseases. The prediction of pulse rate based on facial video is an exciting research field for getting palpation information by observation diagnosis. However, most studies focus on optimizing the algorithm based on a small sample of participants without systematically investigating multiple influencing factors.A total of 209 participants and 2,435 facial videos, based on our self-constructed Multi-Scene Sign Dataset and the public datasets, were used to perform a multi-level and multi-factor comprehensive comparison. The effects of different datasets, blood volume pulse signal extraction algorithms, region of interests, time windows, color spaces, pulse rate calculation methods, and video recording scenes were analyzed.Furthermore,we proposed a blood volume pulse signal quality optimization strategy based on the inverse Fourier transform and an improvement strategy for pulse rate estimation based on signal-to-noise ratio threshold sliding. We found that the effects of video estimation of pulse rate in the Multi-Scene Sign Dataset and Pulse Rate Detection Dataset were better than in other datasets.Compared with Fast independent component analysis and Single Channel algorithms,chrominance-based method and plane-orthogonal-to-skin algorithms have a more vital anti-interference ability and higher robustness. The performances of the five-organs fusion area and the full-face area were better than that of single sub-regions,and the fewer motion artifacts and better lighting can improve the precision of pulse rate estimation.
文摘Introduction: The wellbeing of student’s athletes has a paramount importance, a prolonged period of cognitive and physical performance that characterizes the life of student’s athletes often leads to fatigue, and a psychobiological state that increases the risk of injury and accidents. Results: Compared to the respective values prior to the stress of the competitions and exams, a significant decrease in HRV indices was found: SDNN (P Conclusions: The analysis and examination of the data on the sample of the student population also showed a statistically significant correlation between decreased cardiac variability and injuries or indisposition to physical exertion.
文摘It is difficult to establish the process of chaos in time series from cardiac dynamics. We find that the deterministic components of heart rate variability are chaotic.

文摘Objective To explore the effects of particulate matters less than 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5) on heart repolarization/depolarization and heart rate variability (HRV). Conclusion This study showed ambient PM2.5could affect cardiac autonomic function of the elderly people with heart disease, and subjects with hypertension appeared to be more susceptive to the autonomic dysfunction induced by PM2.5.
文摘Background Elevated resting heart rate and hypertension independently increase the risk of mortality. These findings suggest that elevated resting heart rate should not be regarded as a less serious risk factor in elderly hypertensive patients.
文摘AIMTo assess the prevalence of depressed heart rate variability (HRV) after an acute myocardial infarction (MI), and to evaluate its prognostic significance in the present era of immediate reperfusion.METHODSTime-domain HRV (obtained from 24-h Holter recordings) was assessed in 326 patients (63.5 ± 12.1 years old; 80% males), two weeks after a complicated MI treated by early reperfusion: 208 ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients (in which reperfusion was successfully obtained within 6 h of symptoms in 94% of cases) and 118 non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients (percutaneous coronary intervention was performed within 24 h and successful in 73% of cases). These results support lack of prognostic significance of traditional HRV parameters when immediate coronary reperfusion is utilised.
文摘Objective To investigate the effects of physical activity (PA) on dyslipidemia and elevated resting heart rate (RHR) in a large-scale cross-sectional study in China. Conclusion Our data suggested that substantial health benefits (related to dyslipidemia and elevated RHR) occurred at higher intensity PA, with greater energy consumption, in middle-aged Chinese people, and particularly in men.

文摘Objective To study the relationship between resting heart rate and blood lipid level. Conclusion Elevated resting heart rate is associated with high TG and TC in middle-aged and elderly Chinese subjects.
文摘Heart rate variability (HRV) refers to the variations between consecutive heartbeats, which depend on the continuous modulation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system. Although future larger studies are warranted before HRV can be included into daily clinical practice in adult cardiac surgery, HRV is a novel tool which might detect autonomic instability in the early postoperative phase and during hospital stay, thus predicting or prompt-diagnosing many of the post-operative complications.
文摘Despite all the therapeutic advances in the field of cardiology, cardiovascular diseases, and in particular coronary artery disease, remain the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, thereby underlining the importance of acquiring new therapeutic options in this field. The aim of this editorial is to review the possible role of ivabradine on atherosclerosis.

文摘Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of an implanted chip system for the control of heart rate (HR). Conclusion: The described implanted chip system can regulate the HR to a designated set point.
文摘To investigate the effects of impaired glucose metabolism (IGM) on cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems in essential hypertensive (EH) patients by comparing heart rate variability (HRV) and blood pressure variability (BPV) in EH patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Therefore, improving cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems might reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular complications in the EH patients with IGM.

文摘Objective To prospectively investigate the diagnostic accuracy for coronary artery stenosis of prospectively electrocardiogram-triggered spiral acquisition mode (high pitch mode) dual-source computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) in patients with relatively higher heart rates (HR) compared with catheter coronary angiography (CCA). Conclusion In patients with HR more than 65 bpm and below 100 bpm without cardiac arrhythmia, the prospectively electrocardiogram-gated high-pitch spiral acquisition mode with image acquired timing set at 20%-30% of the R-R interval provides a high diagnostic accuracy for the assessment of coronary stenoses combined with a 1.5% of non-diagnostic coronary segments and a radiation dose below 1 mSv.
文摘Objective:The primary aim of this study is to investigate the effect of application of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation over acupuncture points(Acu-TENS)on postexercise blood lactate level. The secondary aim is to explore the effect of Acu-TENS on heart rate recovery and its association with autonomic nervous system. Methods:Twenty healthy subjects(mean age 26.91.3)acting as their own controls, were randomized to receive either Acu-TENS or Placebo-TENS as the first of two intervention protocols, implemented one week apart.During Acu-TENS,subjects received 45 min TENS bilaterally over the acupoints Neiguan(PC6).Subjects receiving Placebo-TENS had identical electrode placement but with no electrical output from the TENS unit despite an active output light.Interventions were followed by a 10-min ergometer exercise at 70%age-predicted maximal heart rate.Oxygen consumption and heart rate(HR)were recorded continuously throughout exercise.Blood lactate and blood pressure were taken at 4 time points:prior to,immediately after,at 15-min after exercise, and when HR had returned to baseline values. Results:The post-exercise blood lactate level in the Acu-TENS group was lower than that of the placebo group by 1.120.39 mmol/L(p Z 0.01).The Acu-TENS group also had a faster return of HR to pre-exercise level compared to placebo(9.984.54 min,p Z 0.047).Heart rate variability analysis inferred reduced sympathetic modulation during exercise after Acu-TENS.There was no between-group difference in post-exercise oxygen consumption.Conclusion:Acu-TENS lowered post-exercise blood lactate level and enhanced heart rate recovery after moderate exercise. The role of Acu-TENS in exercise performance and energy metabolism warrants further investigation.(ClinicalTrails.gov Identifier:NCT01102634)a 2014 Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/).
