Problems and Strategies:A Case Study of Translation of the Introduction of Xianda College of Economics and Humanities,SISU

The present paper takes the English translation of the introduction of Xianda College of Economics and Humanities,SISU as an example to explore the translation problems of proper nouns and differences in English and Chinese language expressions in the construction of English introductions in Chinese institutions of higher education with the intention to propose corresponding solutions.It is hoped that this paper will provide some tips for the English translation of international publicity materials for other institutions of higher education.

红色资源是我党艰辛而辉煌奋斗历程的见证,是最宝贵的精神财富,具有特殊的教育价值。中国地质大学(武汉)通过“译术行者”实践育人项目开展红色资源英文译介,用红色资源培根铸魂,形成“项目运作—实地调研—翻译实战—专家指导—成果运用”的实践活动范式,提升红色资源融入新时代大学生铸魂育人工程的学理性、生动性、针对性和实效性。该文认为红色资源是铸魂育人的生动资源,红色资源铸魂育人要与思政工作结合、坚持守正创新并与专业特色相关照。

从知识传入到工业实践:近代江南制造局译书中的炼锌知识及在湖南水口山的早期应用

由于锌的冶炼难度高,其冶炼技术在世界范围内出现较晚。我国虽是世界上较早掌握炼锌技术的国家,但近代西方炼锌技术后来居上,洋务派通过翻译西学书籍引进西方部分先进的技术知识,其中《金石识别》《宝藏兴焉》《矿学考质》三本译书对锌的冶炼技术有详细介绍。本文通过对上述三本译书的文本分析,厘清了近代西方传入中国的三种炼锌技术知识及其与中国传统炼锌技术知识的差异;通过梳理史料,还原了西式炼锌知识引入后在中国第一座西法炼锌厂——湖南水口山西法炼锌厂的应用及其技术选择;最后讨论了影响炼锌技术知识早期应用的若干因素。

生态翻译学视域下湖南省旅游景点介绍英译问题及策略研究

湖南省旅游资源丰富,景区景点介绍多,一些景点介绍文本的翻译质量堪忧,影响了游客对该景点及其所在城市或地区的印象和评价。从生态翻译学视角来分析,这些景点介绍文本的翻译主要是在语言维、文化维、交际维的适应转化中出现了翻译失误或翻译不当的情况。在文本移植过程中,生态补偿如改写、增补、删减、释译等策略可以最大限度地提高整合适应选择度和多维整合度,实现源语和译语在语言生态、文化生态和交际生态层面的平衡和协调,促进湖南省绿色生态资源的对外传播,更好地传播中国文化。

A Brief Study of Hu Gengshen's Eco-Translatology:with the Comparison of Translation Ecology

Eco-translatology and Translation Ecology are two new aspects of translation study.They arise from the development of Ecology and the interdisciplinary tendency of translation studies.The present paper intends to make a clear introduction of the two branches of translation study and make a comparison based on the introductions in order to provide insights into these new perspectives to translation studies.The paper points out that they are different in terms of developing routes,naming principles,terminology,methodology,research pivot,etc.A conclusion is drawn that clarification of their relationship will provide insights into the two branches of translation study and Hu Gengshen's approach to translation as adaptation and selection adds a new dimension to translation study as an academic discipline.

Applying Functional Equivalence Theory in Translating the Introduction to Scenic Spots

Since we have entered in the 21 st century, the economy of the whole world has experienced a process of transformation and upgrading, the outstanding performance is the proportion of the third industry in the national economy, and the third industry's contribution to the national economy is growing. Since our government has taken the reform and opening up policy,they attach great importance to the development of the third industry in our country. After more than 30 years of reform and opening- up,the development of tourism industry, also be called the"Smokeless Industry", has been given priority within the booming third industry. There is no doubt that tourism has a bright development prospect. With the rapid development of economy and the deepening of the opening degree, there will be more and more foreigners coming to China for sightseeing. Under this big background, the high quality English introduction of tourist attractions is in great demand. This article is aimed at exploring the practical value of functional equivalence applying to the translation of scenic spots introduction, and provides some feasible solution for tourism translation.

The Renditions Series and Modern Chinese Literature’s “Going-out”: Its Model and Enlightenment of Translation, Communication and Dissemination

In the process of Chinese Literature’s “Going-out” project, it istypical of the dilemma faced by the external translation and dissemination of modernChinese literature. The Renditions Series serves as a classical case of providing aneffective model of “literature’s overseas distribution”. The successful experience of itstranslating-cum-disseminating model can be concluded as follows: all the translatorsare from China and overseas with cross-cultural background; the selection oftranslation is stylistically far-ranging among the Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong,and feminine literature in modern China is highly valued; translating method aims atconvoying the original literary aesthetics, and disseminating channels are manifold;the foreign recipients are common and professional readers; the eminent effects canbe proved by its considerable sales, library collections and acceptance in the targetcountries and regions. From the successful model of translation of Renditions Series,five implications can be made out for the modern Chinese literature’s “Going-global”:domestic and overseas translators cooperate well with all-round cultural identities; theselection holds onto diversification and literary character; various spreading channelsshould be broadened; target readers should be accurately located and continuouslywidened; translating and disseminating effects can be focused on and analyzed, so asto adjust and improve the corresponding sections in the model.

高校本科翻译专业课程思政路径探讨——以《翻译概论》为例

教育承担着立德树人的根本任务,全面实施课程思政是落实立德树人的关键。高校本科翻译专业承担着为国家培养德才兼备的高级翻译人才的使命。因此,如何在翻译教学中有效地融入思政教育是一个值得深入探究的课题。本文试从以下几个方面进行探讨:翻译本科专业教师首先要提升政治意识,积极开展课程思政,发挥主导性作用,同时注意激发学生的主体性。翻译选材方面注意增加中国传统文化知识,有针对性地开展意识形态教育工作;课程教学中要将课程思政寓于课堂内和课堂外、理论与实践中,注重培养学生的批判性意识,实现课程思政与专业课程的无缝衔接,达到润物无声的育人效果。

20世纪前20年中国的但丁知识

在晚清民国间的西学东渐大潮中,意大利文豪但丁的相关知识被译介进入中国。就传播方式和时代关怀来看,学人引述、教材条目和报刊新闻等,所言但丁知识的内容有所区别。围绕《新民丛报》,部分渴望新民建国的学人,肯定但丁提倡使用民族语言从而促进现代意大利国家出现的功绩,希望通过介绍其事迹来启迪国人关注本民族文化的保存。这实为一种民族主义和国粹主义的眼光,而仅有部分学人重视但丁的文艺贡献。辛亥革命以后,人们重视学术文化的建设,逐步转向关注但丁作品的文艺价值,惊叹《神曲》等作品呈现出的丰富想象力,展现出文学经典传播过程与时代接收语境之间的互动影响。值得注意的是,辛亥前后但丁知识来源途径有别,最初学人多由日本接收而来,用作论著的引证,后来随着欧美留学生回国,相关知识多直接取自西语著作。

《道德经》中生命观的印地语译介及跨文化阐释

《道德经》对生命主题的强烈关注,与信奉“万物有灵”的印度传统文化哲学存在共鸣。这很可能是《道德经》成为在印度被译介得最为广泛且最为深入的中华典籍的一个重要原因。在《道德经》流传于印度的多语种译本中,作为官方语言的印地语译本尤为引人注目。五位印度译者翻译了五种《道德经》的印地语译本中,在翻译和阐释老子的生死观、行动观和身体观这三个与生命息息相关的主题时,不同的印地语译者在自身不同的知识结构、文化背景及读者期待视野的影响下,经历了不同的叛逆、融合、对话、变形与拓展。而在种种不同之中,存在某种以印度文化框架对老子思想进行格义的相同趋向。这种趋向让《道德经》从古代汉语到现代印地语转换的过程中,实现了老子生命观在印度文化空间中的重建。换言之,当老子的生命观思想披着印地语的外衣在印度重生之时,同时焕发出了中国智慧与印度智慧的光芒,可谓是中印双方文化基因交融的产物,是中印文化你情我愿的双向奔赴。

开辟诗的“新大陆”——北美华文诗刊《新大陆》的诗场域建构与诗学探索及贡献

文学生活往往以期刊为中心。与《一行》等北美华文诗刊相比,北美《新大陆》诗刊在开拓北美华文诗歌发展中居功甚伟。第一,作为一个同仁期刊——北美洲唯一一个定期连续出版、创刊32年的华文现代诗期刊,《新大陆》开辟了华文诗歌的新疆域,以独特的文学生产场域的建构推进了北美华文诗歌的发展。第二,服膺现代主义,把中国台湾1960年代以来的现代诗艺术普及到了北美华文诗歌创作领域,提升了华文文学总体艺术质量。32年来登载1400余位现代诗人17000首现代诗。其中不乏一流诗人的不少一流经典。他们中的非马、洛夫、纪弦、严力、北塔的诗学高度才是北美华文文学的高度。第三,《新大陆》诗刊的华文诗人们,以其全球性主题的表现,促进了全球诗学内涵的丰富。第四,创作大量双语诗,并且汉诗与多语言诗歌互译,促进了现代汉语诗歌的海外传播。

世界文学视域下的茅盾文学奖作品外译研究

本文将茅盾文学奖作品的英译与布克文学奖作品的汉译进行比较研究,结合世界文学研究的基本范式和理念,探讨茅盾文学奖外译所涉及的跨文化交流的诸多因素,通过分析评奖委员会、作者、译者、出版社与评论者五方在作品翻译、出版与接受过程中所起的作用及存在的问题,提出相应的策略。对于茅盾文学奖作品的英译与接受,本文认为各方应该在已有观念和角度的基础上结合其译介的现状及存在的问题进行反思,在远观的视野下,发挥合作力作用,让诸多复杂因素合力推进英文读者对茅盾文学奖英译作品的阅读兴趣和理解深度,以提高文化传播的效度,深入了解中国文化内核、中国社会现实与现状以及中华民族的精神,进而促进文化传播与文明互鉴。
