Methods A co-culture system containing irradiated antigen presenting cells (J774A.1) and unirradiated T lymphocytes (EL-4) was established to observe the effect of J774A.1 cells exposed to both low and high doses of X-rays on the unirradiated EL-4 cells. Incorporation of 3H-TdR was used to assess the proliferation of the EL-4 cells, expression of CD80/86 and CD48 on J774A.1 cells was measured with immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry, respectively. NO release from J774A.1 cells was estimated with nitrate reduction method. Results Low dose-irradiated J774A.1 cells could stimulate the proliferation of the unirradiated EL-4 cells while the high dose-irradiated J774A.1 cells exerted an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of the unirradiated EL-4 cells. Preliminary mechanistic studies illustrated that the differential changes in CD48 expression and NO production by the irradiated J774A.1 cells after high and low dose radiation might be important factors underlying the differential bystander effect elicited by different doses of radiation. Conclusion Stimulatory bystander effect can be induced in immune cells by low dose radiation.展开更多

Both the temperature-independent contributions and the temperature-dependent ones of acoustic branches and optical branches have been derived. It is found that the temperature-independent contributions are very important, especially at low temperature. The total pressure-induced shift (PS) of a level (or spectral line or band) is the algebraic sum of its PS without EPI and its PS due to EPI. By means of both the theory for shifts of energy spectra due to EPI and the theory for PS of energy spectra, the total PS of R1 line of tunable laser crystal GSGG:Cr3+ at 70 K as well as the ones of its R1 line, R2 line and U band at 300 K will be successfully calculated and explained in this series of papers.展开更多

The study was based on the gavage administration of the ethylic extract of Tl with different doses (i.e. 200, 400, 500 and 5000 mg/kg), where the toxicity and the sedative activity of the plant were observed and the obtained results were analyzed using the ANOVA test followed by the Bonferroni test. The main results of this study showed that the lethal dose of the ethylic extract of Tl was higher than the 5000 mg/kg dose. Moreover, when compared to the control rats, the animals treated with 5000 mg/kg of the extract exhibited significant reduction in appetite for food and water in the first week. Furthermore, results of the psychotropic test conducted during this study showed visible effects on the exploratory activity of the rats. The dose of 5000 mg/kg was also found to have a significant central nervous system effect;the locomotor activities of the animals decreased in a manner similar to those administered with Zepam as control.展开更多

Following a 1-week adjustment period, water-soluble propolis was administered intraperitoneally to male ICR mice at a dose of 100 mg/kg every other day for 2 weeks. Following administration, 2 Gy whole-body irradiation was performed and the counts of leukocytes, lymphocytes, and granulocytes and monocytes in the peripheral blood were determined 1, 3, 7, 15 and 30 days after irradiation. In the second experiment, water-soluble propolis was similarly administered to the mice for 2 weeks after a 1-week adjustment period, and 2 Gy whole-body irradiation was performed. The antioxidant effects in hemocytes were then investigated using 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH), a radical generator. In the third experiment, 1×10^6 Sarcoma-180 cells were inoculated into the right thigh of mice, which were divided into four groups: control, water-soluble propolis-treated, 6 Gy irradiated and water-soluble propolis-treated + 6 Gy irradiated groups, and changes in tumor size were measured for 20 days. Results show that administration of water-soluble propolis inhibits the reduction of hemocytes caused by whole-bodv irradiation, enhances antioxidant effects against radioactivity, and inhibits tumor growth.展开更多

[ Metkod] We took the method that was replace the hive and comb on test col- onies with the comb Formalin soaking liquid used three days after the dry and sterilization in advance with the hive. The test groups were 10 colonies randomly selected from the disinfected comb in the breeding. This was the first kind of method. The control groups were 10 colonies randomly se- lected by the conventional breeding management methods. From January 20th, statistic analysis on parasitic situation of bees once every month be- tween the two methods, and take corresponding measures to prevent and control the varroa mite according to the varroa mite parasitic number in time, then the control effect of mite between the two methods were compared with. [ Result] The results showed that the first method was better than the second one in V. destructor, the control time of T. clareae delayed about one month [ Conclusion] Good breeding method could restrain I V. destructor and T. clareae parasitism, speeded up the colony development, and reduced the pollution of chemical drugs on bee products, regar- dod as a kind good method of controlling bee mites to make use of the feeding and management technology.展开更多

The calculated results are in very good agreement with the experimental data. The behaviors of the pure electronic PS of R-line of MgO:Cr^3+ and the PS of its R-line due to EPI are different. It is the combined effect of them that gives rise to the total PS of R-line, which has satisfactorily explained the experimental results. The comparison between the feature of R-line PS of MgO:Cr^3+ and that of R1-line PS of ruby has been made.展开更多
