To better evaluate the effect of disturbances on the obtained measurements a Kalman filter is also used in the system. For this purpose a small UAV that is normally used as a radio controlled plane is chosen. The linearized equations for a wings level flight condition and the state space matrices are obtained. An optimal controller using LQR method to control the altitude level is then designed. The effect of the disturbances on the measurements are taken into account and the effectiveness of the Kalman filter in obtaining the correct measurements and achieving the desired control level are shown using the controller designed for the system. The small UAV is commanded to the desired altitude using the LQR controller through the control inputs elevator deflection and thrust rate. The LQR effectiveness matrices are chosen to find the gains necessary to build an effective altitude controller. Firstly the controller is tested under the situation where disturbances are absent. Then a Kalman filter is designed and the system under disturbances is tested with the designed controller and the filter. The results reveal the effectiveness of the Kalman filter and the LQR controller.展开更多

To solve this problem, this paper presents a mathematical model for arm driven inverted pendulum in mid-position configuration and an adaptive gain scheduling linear quadratic regulator control method for the stabilizing the inverted pendulum. The proposed controllers for arm driven inverted pendulum are simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK and implemented on an experiment system using PIC 18F4431 mieroeontroller. The result of experiment system shows the control performance to be very good in a wide range stabilization of the arm position.展开更多

In this regard, a finite element model based on the classical plate theory is adopted and extended to the case of FGM plate to obtain a space state equation. Rectangular four node and eight node elements are used for the analysis purpose. The material proprieties of FG plate are assumed to be graded along the thickness direction. In order to control the vibration of the plate, an LQR controller has been designed and developed. The weighing factors are obtained by using genetic algorithm. The proposed results of finite element modeling are verified with the results obtained using ANSYS. Also the validation of methodology is done with comparing the results with that of available in literature and found in well agreement. Further analysis is performed for three sets of power law exponent n = 0, 1 and 100 which gives benchmark results for vibration control of FGM piezoelectric plate.展开更多

This paper addresses the controllability aspect in wireless vibration control of plate structures via photostrictive actuators. A modal force index, which has taken into account the mode number, the spatial distribution, and the dimension of the actuator, is chosen as an objective function to determine the optimal locations of photostrictive actuators. A linear methodology is proposed in this paper and the vibration equation is written in the standard state-space form. A binary-coded GA based combined optimal placement and LQR (linear quadratic regulator) control scheme has been incorporated, which maximizes the modal force index, the closed loop damping and minimizes input light intensity to the actuators. In the present method only three weighting factors have been used to search optimal Q and R matrices using GA, which reduces chromosome length and hence minimizes computational time. Numerical results demonstrate that the use of strategically positioned actuator patches can effectively control the fundamental modes that dominate the structural vibration.展开更多

It is unstable without control. The process is non linear and unstable with one input signal and several output signals. It is hence obvious that feedback of the state of the pendulum is needed to stabilize the pendulum. The aim of the study is to stabilize the pendulum such that the position of the carriage on the track is controlled quickly and accurately. The problem involves an arm, able to move horizontally in angular motion, and a pendulum, hinged to the arm at the bottom of its length such that the pendulum can move in the same plane as the arm. The conventional PID controller can be used for virtually any process condition. This makes elimination the offset of the proportional mode possible and still provides fast response. In this paper, we have modelled the system and studied conventional controller and LQR controller. It is observed that the LQR method works better compared to conventional controller.展开更多

It is of essential significance to deal with uncertainties by means of reliability approach and to achieve a reasonable balance between reliability against uncertainties and system performance in the control design of uncertain systems. Nevertheless, reliability methods which can be used directly for analysis and synthesis of active control of structures in the presence of uncertainties remain to be developed, especially in non-probabilistic uncertainty situations. In the present paper, the issue of vibration con- trol of uncertain structures using linear quadratic regulator (LQR) approach is studied from the viewpoint of reliabil- ity. An efficient non-probabilistic robust reliability method for LQR-based static output feedback robust control of un- certain structures is presented by treating bounded uncertain parameters as interval variables. The optimal vibration con- troller design for uncertain structures is carried out by solv- ing a robust reliability-based optimization problem with the objective to minimize the quadratic performance index. The controller obtained may possess optimum performance un- der the condition that the controlled structure is robustly re- liable with respect to admissible uncertainties. The proposed method provides an essential basis for achieving a balance between robustness and performance in controller design ot uncertain structures. The presented formulations are in the framework of linear matrix inequality and can be carried out conveniently. Two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the present method.展开更多
