They rarely raise diagnostic problem, but remain a haunting of the CCF and ENT surgeon. Objective: We report a special case of foreign body entering the oropharynx and measuring 15 cm of long in a boy of 7 years, in order to discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Observation: A 7 year old male student has been received in emergency for accidental trauma of the oropharynx by a particular object, a pencil. The diagnosis has been essentially clinical. The exhibition of the oropharynx using the open mouth of Boyles Davis has obviously shown the foreign body penetrating the right anterior pillar crossing the parapharyngeal spaces till the right posterolateral prevertebral space. The extraction of the foreign body was done by endoscopic route under general anesthesia. As a remarkable fact, it was the gumming end that was penetrating. The postoperative course was uneventful. Conclusion: This type of foreign body of oropharynx constitutes a medical and surgical emergency. From an easy and positive diagnosis, these foreign bodies especially raise a problem of lesion diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Prevention through education and awareness of all the actors (students, children, parents) remain the pledge of their control.展开更多

Methods: CT and MRI findings of 18 cases of lymphoma of oropharynx were analyzed and compared with the operative and pathological findings. Results: 11 cases of lymphoma of the tonsil and 3 cases of lymphoma of the bases of tongue displayed regular soft tissue mass with protuberated into oropharynx. 4 cases of lymphoma of the lateral pharynx displayed irregular soft tissue mass in oropharynx. Their density and signal of the lymphoma were homogeneous and showed slight enhancement by CT and MRI. All lesions did not appear necrosis or cyst. 10 cases of cervical lymphoid metastasis were found in 18 cases of lymphoma of oropharynx. Conclusion: CT and MRI can provide the position, shape and range of lymphoma of oropharynx and metastases in lymph nodes and invasion to surrounding tissues. They had high clinical value in diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma of oropharynx.展开更多

Metastases from stage III and stage IV tumors occur most commonly in the cervical lymph nodes. The incidence of distant metastases occurring from such advanced tumors is anywhere between 10% and 40%. Distant metastases occur most commonly to the lungs followed by the bone and liver. The bone metastasis occurs commonly in the axial skeleton. We report a rather unusual case of squamous cell carcinomas from the Head and Neck region in a 77-year-old male metastasizing to the ulna. This case is even more interesting because the presenting symptom was a pathological fracture of the ulna for which he had reported to the orthopedic department. The immunohistochemistry of the metastatic tumor had shown an unmistakable squamous cell carcinoma with positive cytokeratin elements within the tumor. He referred to the ENT department where he was diagnosed with T2N0M1 squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx. The patient was treated with internal fixation and bone cementing for the metastatic lesion, and primarily treated with chemoradiation.展开更多
