Robust Nonlinear Current Sensorless Control of the Boost Converter with Constant Power Load

The boost converter feeding a constant power load (CPL) is a non-minimum phase system that is prone to the destabilizing effects of the negative incremental resistance of the CPL and presents a major challenge in the design of stabilizing controllers. A PWM-based current-sensorless robust sliding mode controller is developed that requires only the measurement of the output voltage. An extended state observer is developed to estimate a lumped uncertainty signal that comprises the uncertain load power and the input voltage, the converter parasitics, the component uncertainties and the estimation of the derivative of the output voltage needed in the implementation of the controller. A linear sliding surface is used to derive the controller, which is simple in its design and yet exhibits excellent features in terms of robustness to external disturbances, parameter uncertainties, and parasitics despite the absence of the inductor’s current feedback. The robustness of the controller is validated by computer simulations. 展开更多

The mathematical model of PMSM in a stationary αβ reference frame is adopted, and the system is controlled by the digital signal processor ( DSP; TMS320LF2407 according to the control achieve closed loop operation of the motor, the stator theory of sliding mode observer. In order to magnetic field should be vertical with the rotor magnetic field and be synchronous with rotor rotating, so the position and speed of PMSM is estimated in real time and the estimated position is modified continuously. The simulation results indicate that the proposed observer has high precision is more robust to the parametric variation and load in estimation of PMSM position and speed, and torque disturbance. 展开更多

Sensorless control of AC motor drives,which takes the advantages of cost saving,higher reliability,and less hardware,has been developed for several decades.Among the existing speed sensorless control methods,nonlinear Kalman filter-based one has attached widespread attention due to its superb estimation accuracy and inherent resistibility to noise.However,the determination of noise covariance matrix and robustness of model uncertainties are still open issues in practice.A great number of studies try to solve these problems in resent years.This paper reviews the application of extended Kalman filter(EKF),unscented Kalman filter(UKF),and cubature Kalman filter(CKF)in speed sensorless control for AC motor drives.As an iterative algorithm,EKF has advantages in processor implementation.However,EKF suffers from the linearization error and model uncertainties when applying to sensorless control system.This paper presents the predominant improvements of EKF which is also applicative in UKF and CKF mostly. 展开更多

In this paper,a sensorless control strategy of a permanent magnet synchronous machine(PMSM)based on an improved rotor flux observer(IFO)is proposed.Due to the unknown integral initial value and the high harmonics caused by current sampling and inverter nonlinearities,the flux linkage estimated by traditional rotor flux observer may be inaccurate.In order to address these issues,a self-adaptive band-pass filter(SABPF)is designed to eliminate the DC component and high-frequency harmonics of the estimated equivalent rotor flux linkage.Furthermore,in order to avoid that the design of PI parameter is influenced by the amplitude of equivalent rotor flux linkage,an improved phase-locked loop(IPLL)is employed to obtain the rotor speed and to normalize the estimated equivalent rotor flux linkage.In addition,angle shift caused by an SABPF is compensated to improve the accuracy of the estimated flux linkage angle.Besides,the parameter robustness of this method is analyzed in detail.Finally,simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and parameter robustness of the proposed method. 展开更多

This paper presents the developments of sensorless control of interior permanent magnet synchronous machine(IPMSM)for last 10 years,which could be divided into the past and the present for each 5 years.Several popular methods developed for last 10 years would be described and evaluated,and the limitations with the methods are discussed.In the past a concept extended EMF(EEMF)was introduced and it can model IPMSM as a non-salient motor,meaning that the representation of IPMSM in the estimated rotor reference frame would be much simpler and accurate.However,because it still relied on back EMF,standstill operation was impossible.And,the position control of IPMSM could not be achieved with EEMF concept.For sensorless drive,the high-frequency signal injection method exploiting inherent saliency of IPMSM has been continuously developed for last 10 years and applied to various industry fields,where torque control at standstill is essential.Its performance has been improved but there are still many problems to be solved.In the present,the square-wave signal injection at estimated d-axis has improved the control performance conspicuously.However,there are strong demands to improve the control performance of sensorless drive,yet.Based on the problems in the present,in this paper the possible developments of sensorless drive of IPMSM in next 5 years are enlightened as the future of sensorless control. 展开更多

Inductance asymmetry,which is brought by inherent asymmetric parameters,manufacture tolerance,winding fault,cables with unequal lengths,etc.,of permanent-magnet synchronous machines(PMSMs)can cause current harmonics and inaccurate position estimation.This paper proposes an enhanced fundamental model based sensorless control strategy for PMSMs with asymmetric inductances.The proportional-integral-resonant current regulator is introduced to reduce the second-order harmonics of currents,but there are still negative sequence components in the estimated back-electromotive forces(EMFs),which can cause the position estimated error.Differing from conventional methods in which negative sequences are filtered out before the phase-locked loop(PLL)module,the proposed method directly applies the estimated back-EMF with negative sequences as the reference input of PLL.An improved PLL with a bi-quad filter is proposed to attenuate the arising second harmonic position error and heighten the steady-state accuracy.Then,this position error is used for asymmetric inductance identification and its result is utilized to update the observer model.Furthermore,the dynamic performance is improved by the output limitation on the bi-quad filter as well as the implementation of a fast-locking technique in the PLL.The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by experimental results. 展开更多

This proposed system is simplified the topological structure of the conventional six-switch three phase inverter. In this proposed method, a new structure of four-switch three phase inverter [1] with reduced number of switches for system is introduced to reduce the mechanical commutation, switching losses that occur in the six-switch method. The proposed inverter fed brushless DC motor used in sensorless control schemes which is used for sensing positioning signals. To improve sensor less control performance, four-switch electronic commutation modes based proportional intergral controller scheme is implemented. In this four-switch three phase inverter reduction of switches, low cost control and saving of hall sensor were incorporated. The feasibility of the proposed sensor less control four-switch three phase inverter fed brushless DC motor drive is implemented, analysed using MATLAB/SIMULINK, effective simulation results have been validated out successfully. 展开更多

Permanent magnet synchronous Generator (PMSG) based direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) has been attracting wide attentions. For the special application, sensorless control for PMSG is desired. By widely studying the previous contributes, a novel estimator based on back-EMF is proposed. The estimator is composed of back-EMF observer and a phase-lock-loop (PLL) control to get the rotor-flux speed and position. The estimator not only can be used for interior and surface permanent magnet synchronous generators, but also has a compact and symmetrical structure, which makes it be beneficial for implementation. Compared with previous strategies, the EMF observer is independent of the PLL control, which would simplify the observer design. Meanwhile, the proposed estimator is less sensitive to parameter variations. Based on mathematic models of PMSG, the proposed estimator was analyzed in detail, and the realizing process was also presented. To validate the proposed estimator, the important experiment results are reported. 展开更多

Because brushless direct current(BLDC) motors have the advantages of a compact size, high power density, high efficiency, and long operating life time, they are widely used in many industrial products and electric traction systems. It is known that the BLDC motors have no brushes for commutation. They are commutated with electronically commutation. So, the rotor position information of the BLDC motors must be known to understand which winding will be energized according to the energizing sequence. In most of the existing BLDC motor drivers, rotor position information is detected by Hall effect sensors. This kind of mechanical position sensors will bring additional connections and costs, reliability decrease and noise increase. In order to improve the control performance and extend the range of speed regulation for BLDC motors, a position sensorless control method is proposed in this paper. In the proposed control method, rotor position information of the BLDC motors is detected from the back electromagnetic forces(back-EMFs) which are estimated by an unknown-input observer with line to line currents and line to line voltages. For the purpose of verifying the effectiveness of the proposed control method, a model is built and simulated on the Matlab/Simulink platform. The simulation results show that the speed regulation performance of BLDC motors is improved compared with using Hall effect sensors. At the same time, the reliability of the BLDC motors is improved and the costs of them are reduced because the position sensor is eliminated. 展开更多

The algorithm with reduced order decreases the computational complexity and makes the proposed estimator feasible to be implemented in real time. We propose a position sensorless control scheme for a four-switch,three-phase brushless DC motor drive,based on the zero crossing point detection of phase back-EMF voltages using newly defined error functions(EFs). The commutation in-stants are 30° after detected zero crossing points of the EFs. Developed EFs have greater magnitude rather than phase or line voltages so that the sensorless control can work at a lower speed range. Moreover,EFs have smooth transitions around zero voltage level that reduces the commutation errors. EFs are derived from the filtered terminal voltages vao and vbo of two low-pass filters,which are used to eliminate high frequency noises for calculation of the average terminal voltages. The feasibility of the proposed sensorless control is demonstrated by simulation and experimental results. 展开更多

This paper addresses the problem of wide speed range sensorless control of induction motor.The proposed method is based on model reference adaptive system (MRAS),in which the current model serves as the adjustable model,and a novel hybrid model integrating the modified voltage model (MVM) and high-frequency signal injection method (HFSIM) are established to serve as the reference model.The HFSIM works together with MVM to improve the performance of the rotor speed and rotor flux position estimation at low speed,whereas at high speed,the MVM acts alone.In addition,a rotor resistance online estimation scheme is proposed to update the rotor resistance contained in the adjustable model and to ensure the estimation accuracy further.Experimental results show that the proposed MRAS method is very effective from low to high speed range,including zero speed. 展开更多

Model reference adaptive system(MRAS)is typically employed for rotor position/speed estimation in sensorless interior permanent magnet motor(IPMSM)drives.The adjustment of control parameters in MRAS is a key issue for IPMSM drive systems with cyclic fluctuating loads.In order to avoid the difficulties involved with manual tuning of the control parameters,a new MRAS scheme based on fuzzy logic is proposed in this paper in which a fuzzy controller replaces the conventional PI regulator.To implement this new MRAS scheme,a two-dimensional(2-D)fuzzy rule is designed.The proposed control scheme is employed in the IPMSM drives with cyclic fluctuating loads such as compressors.In order to lower the motor speed ripple caused by the cyclic fluctuating load,a feed-forward compensation strategy with the load-matching motor output torque pattern is developed.Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic based MRAS scheme with minimal rotor position estimation error. 展开更多
