Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a global pandemic where several comorbidities have been shown to have a significant effect on mortality.Patients with diabetes mellitus(DM)have a higher mortality rate than non-DM patients if they get COVID-19.Recent studies have indicated that patients with a history of diabetes can increase the risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.Additionally, patients without any history of diabetes can acquire newonset DM when infected with COVID-19.Thus,there is a need to explore the bidirectional link between these two conditions, confirming the vicious loop between“DM/COVID-19”.This narrative review presents(1)the bidirectional association between the DM and COVID-19,(2)the manifestations of the DM/COVID-19 loop leading to cardiovascular disease,(3)an understanding of primary and secondary factors that influence mortality due to the DM/COVID-19 loop,(4)the role of vitamin-D in DM patients during COVID-19,and finally,(5)the monitoring tools for tracking atherosclerosis burden in DM patients during COVID-19 and“COVID-triggered DM”patients. We conclude that the bidirectional nature of DM/COVID-19 causes acceleration towards cardiovascular events.Due to this alarming condition, early monitoring of atherosclerotic burden is required in“Diabetes patients during COVID-19”or“new-onset Diabetes triggered by COVID-19 in Non-Diabetes patients”. 展开更多

In this paper we propose a new discrete bidirectional associative memory (DBAM) which is derived from our previous continuous linear bidirectional associative memory (LBAM). The DBAM performs bidirectionally the optimal associative mapping proposed by Kohonen. Like LBAM and NBAM proposed by one of the present authors, the present BAM ensures the guaranteed recall of all stored patterns, and possesses far higher capacity compared with other existing BAMs,and like NBAM, has the strong ability to suppress the noise occurring in the output patterns and therefore reduce largely the spurious patterns. The derivation of DBAM is given and the stability of DBAM is proved. We also derive a learning algorithm for DBAM,which has iterative form and make the network learn new patterns easily. Compared with NBAM the present BAM can be easily implemented by software. 展开更多

The multiple classifier system (MCS), composed of multiple diverse classifiers or feed-forward neural networks, can significantly improve the classification or generalization ability of a single classifier. Enlightened by the fundamental idea of MCS, the ensemble is introduced into the quick learning for bidirectional associative memory (QLBAM) to construct a BAM ensemble, for improving the storage capacity and the error-correction capability without destroying the simple structure of the component BAM. Simulations show that, with an appropriate "overproduce and choose" strategy or "thinning" algorithm, the proposed BAM ensemble significantly outperforms the single QLBAM in both storage capacity and noise-tolerance capability. 展开更多

Without assuming the smoothness, monotonicity and boundedness of the activation functions, some novel criteria on the existence and global exponential stability of equilibrium point for delayed bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks are established by applying the Liapunov functional methods and matrix_algebraic techniques. It is shown that the new conditions presented in terms of a nonsingular M matrix described by the networks parameters, the connection matrix and the Lipschitz constant of the activation functions, are not only simple and practical, but also easier to check and less conservative than those imposed by similar results in recent literature. 展开更多

Studies on the stability of the equilibrium points of continuous bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network have yielded many useful results. A novel neural network model called standard neural network model (SNNM) is ad- vanced. By using state affine transformation, the BAM neural networks were converted to SNNMs. Some sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of continuous BAM neural networks were derived from studies on the SNNMs’ stability. These conditions were formulated as easily verifiable linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), whose conservativeness is relatively low. The approach proposed extends the known stability results, and can also be applied to other forms of recurrent neural networks (RNNs). 展开更多

To facilitate stability analysis of discrete-time bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks, they were converted into novel neural network models, termed standard neural network models (SNNMs), which interconnect linear dynamic systems and bounded static nonlinear operators. By combining a number of different Lyapunov functionals with S-procedure, some useful criteria of global asymptotic stability and global exponential stability of the equilibrium points of SNNMs were derived. These stability conditions were formulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). So global stability of the discrete-time BAM neural networks could be analyzed by using the stability results of the SNNMs. Compared to the existing stability analysis methods, the proposed approach is easy to implement, less conservative, and is applicable to other recurrent neural networks. 展开更多

We propose a new approach for analyzing the global asymptotic stability of the extended discrete-time bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks. By using the Euler rule, we discretize the continuous-time BAM neural networks as the extended discrete-time BAM neural networks with non-threshold activation functions. Here we present some conditions under which the neural networks have unique equilibrium points. To judge the global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium points, we introduce a new neural network model - standard neural network model (SNNM). For the SNNMs, we derive the sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium points, which are formulated as some linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). We transform the discrete-time BAM into the SNNM and apply the general result about the SNNM to the determination of global asymptotic stability of the discrete-time BAM. The approach proposed extends the known stability results, has lower conservativeness, can be verified easily, and can also be applied to other forms of recurrent neural networks. 展开更多

Without assuming the boundedness, strict monotonicity and differentiability of the activation functions, the authors utilize the Lyapunov functional method to analyze the global convergence of some delayed models. For the Hopfield neural network with time delays, a new sufficient condition ensuring the existence, uniqueness and global exponential stability of the equilibrium point is derived. This criterion concerning the signs of entries in the connection matrix imposes constraints on the feedback matrix independently of the delay parameters. From a new viewpoint, the bidirectional associative memory neural network with time delays is investigated and a new global exponential stability result is given. 展开更多

In this paper, we study the existence, uniqueness, and the global exponential stability of the periodic solution and equilibrium of hybrid bidirectional associative memory neural networks with discrete delays. By ingeniously importing real parameters di > 0 (i = 1,2, …, n) which can be adjusted, making use of the Lyapunov functional method and some analysis techniques, some new sufficient conditions are established. Our results generalize and improve the related results in [9]. These conditions can be used both to design globally exponentially stable and periodical oscillatory hybrid bidirectional associative neural networks with discrete delays, and to enlarge the area of designing neural networks. Our work has important significance in related theory and its application. 展开更多

With changing customer attitudes toward consumption and function homogenization, product appearance designs have an increasing influence on the purchase decision.Customer characteristics and emotional factors play an important role here. This study proposes a novel approach for modelling satisfaction and accomplishing a configuration that overcomes the limitations of conventional methods to precisely predict satisfaction, provide optimal product recommendations, and advise manufacturers on product appearance design. The newly proposed approach considers satisfaction, clusters customers through the Kansei perspective, and constructs a satisfaction model for each cluster.Additionally, the study employs data mining to understand the basic design principles and conflicted combinations that must be followed and avoided, respectively. The bidirectional association rules-constrained genetic algorithm is presented to limit configuration freedom, ensuring that results are in the range of control.Comparing prediction errors and recommended sample votes between the novel and conventional approaches revealed the presented approach’s efficiency and accuracy, thereby providing suggestions for manufacturers to make precise decisions on launching new product appearance designs through predicting customer emotional satisfaction. 展开更多
