The CBL and the constitutive theories take into account finite deformation and finite strain deformation physics and are based on contravariant deviatoric second Piola-Kirchhoff stress tensor and its work conjugate covariant Green’s strain tensor and their material derivatives of up to order m and n respectively. All published works on nonlinear dynamics of TVES with rheology are mostly based on phenomenological mathematical models. In rare instances, some aspects of CBL are used but are incorrectly altered to obtain mass, stiffness and damping matrices using space-time decoupled approaches. In the work presented in this paper, we show that this is not possible using CBL of CCM for TVES with rheology. Thus, the mathematical models used currently in the published works are not the correct description of the physics of nonlinear dynamics of TVES with rheology. The mathematical model used in the present work is strictly based on the CBL of CCM and is thermodynamically and mathematically consistent and the space-time coupled finite element methodology used in this work is unconditionally stable and provides solutions with desired accuracy and is ideally suited for nonlinear dynamics of TVES with memory. The work in this paper is the first presentation of a mathematical model strictly based on CBL of CCM and the solution of the mathematical model is obtained using unconditionally stable space-time coupled computational methodology that provides control over the errors in the evolution. Both space-time coupled and space-time decoupled finite element formulations are considered for obtaining solutions of the IVPs described by the mathematical model and are presented in the paper. Factors or the physics influencing dynamic response and dynamic bifurcation for TVES with rheology are identified and are also demonstrated through model problem studies. A simple model problem consisting of a rod (1D) of TVES material with memory fixed at one end and subjected to harmonic excitation at the other end is considered to study nonlinear dynamics of TVES with rheology, frequency response as well as dynamic bifurcation phenomenon.展开更多

The output from such a system is probably the result of both its internal dynamics, and the input to the system from its surroundings. We present an optimization algorithm to find a time series that is as close as possible to the heart rate series subject to the constraint that it is deterministic with respect to some dynamics. The algorithm is tested by some famous forced dynamical systems, and applied to heart rate data. We find that the deterministic components of heart rate variability are chaotic.展开更多

Differential equations are essential for modeling dynamic systems in various disciplines, including biological processes, heat transfer, and control systems. This study addresses first, second, and third-order nonlinear differential equations using Mathematica for data generation and graphing. The ADM, developed by George Adomian, uses Adomian polynomials to handle nonlinear terms, which can be computationally intensive. In contrast, VIM, developed by He, directly iterates the correction functional, providing a more straightforward and efficient approach. This study highlights VIM’s rapid convergence and effectiveness of VIM, particularly for nonlinear problems, where it simplifies calculations and offers direct solutions without polynomial derivation. The results demonstrate VIM’s superior efficiency and rapid convergence of VIM compared with ADM. The VIM’s minimal computational requirements make it practical for real-time applications and complex system modeling. Our findings align with those of previous research, confirming VIM’s efficiency of VIM in various engineering applications. This study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate methods based on specific problem requirements. While ADM is valuable for certain nonlinearities, VIM’s approach is ideal for many engineering scenarios. Future research should explore broader applications and hybrid methods to enhance the solution’s accuracy and efficiency. This comprehensive comparison provides valuable guidance for selecting effective numerical methods for differential equations in engineering.展开更多

Over the years, researchers have focused on improving seismic design to mitigate earthquake-induced damages and enhance structural performance. In this study, a specific reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure at Kyungpook National University, designed for educational purposes, is analyzed as a representative case. Utilizing SAP 2000, the research conducts a nonlinear time history analysis to assess the structural performance under seismic conditions. The primary objective is to evaluate the influence of different column section designs, while maintaining identical column section areas, on structural behavior. The study employs two distinct seismic waves from Abeno (ABN) and Takatori (TKT) for the analysis, comparing the structural performance under varying seismic conditions. Key aspects examined include displacement, base shear force, base moment, joint radians, and layer displacement angle. This research is anticipated to serve as a valuable reference for seismic restraint reinforcement work on RC buildings, enriching the methods used for evaluating structures through nonlinear time history analysis based on the synthetic seismic wave approach.展开更多

The beam is composed of a substrate and two piezoelectric layers and assumed as an Euler-Bernoulli model with inextensible deformation. A nonlinear distributed parameter model of cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters is proposed using the generalized Hamilton's principle. The proposed model includes geometric and inertia nonlinearity, but neglects the material nonlinearity. Using the Galerkin decomposition method and harmonic balance method, analytical expressions of the frequency-response curves are presented when the first bending mode of the beam plays a dominant role. Using these expressions, we investigate the effects of the damping, load resistance, electromechanical coupling, and excitation amplitude on the frequency-response curves. We also study the difference between the nonlinear lumped-parameter and distributed- parameter model for predicting the performance of the energy harvesting system. Only in the case of parametric excitation, we demonstrate that the energy harvesting system has an initiation excitation threshold below which no energy can be harvested. We also illustrate that the damping and load resistance affect the initiation excitation threshold.展开更多

文摘A novel X-shaped variable stiffness vibration isolator(X-VSVI)is proposed. The Runge-Kutta method, harmonic balance method, and wavelet transform spectra are introduced to evaluate the performance of the X-VSVI under various excitations. The layer number, the installation angle of the X-shaped structure, the stiffness, and the active control parameters are systematically analyzed. In addition,a prototype of the X-VSVI is manufactured, and vibration tests are carried out.The results show that the proposed X-VSVI has a superior adaptability to that of a traditional X-shaped mechanism, and shows excellent vibration isolation performance in response to different amplitudes and forms of excitations. Moreover, the vibration isolation efficiency of the device can be improved by appropriate adjustment of parameters.

文摘Although predictor-corrector methods have been extensively applied, they might not meet the requirements of practical applications and engineering tasks, particularly when high accuracy and efficiency are necessary.A novel class of correctors based on feedback-accelerated Picard iteration(FAPI)is proposed to further enhance computational performance. With optimal feedback terms that do not require inversion of matrices, significantly faster convergence speed and higher numerical accuracy are achieved by these correctors compared with their counterparts;however, the computational complexities are comparably low. These advantages enable nonlinear engineering problems to be solved quickly and accurately, even with rough initial guesses from elementary predictors. The proposed method offers flexibility, enabling the use of the generated correctors for either bulk processing of collocation nodes in a domain or successive corrections of a single node in a finite difference approach. In our method, the functional formulas of FAPI are discretized into numerical forms using the collocation approach. These collocated iteration formulas can directly solve nonlinear problems, but they may require significant computational resources because of the manipulation of high-dimensionalmatrices.To address this, the collocated iteration formulas are further converted into finite difference forms, enabling the design of lightweight predictor-corrector algorithms for real-time computation. The generality of the proposed method is illustrated by deriving new correctors for three commonly employed finite-difference approaches:the modified Euler approach, the Adams-Bashforth-Moulton approach, and the implicit Runge-Kutta approach.Subsequently, the updated approaches are tested in solving strongly nonlinear problems, including the Matthieu equation, the Duffing equation, and the low-earth-orbit tracking problem. The numerical findings confirm the computational accuracy and efficiency of the derived predictor-corrector algorithms.
文摘Replaceable flexural and shear fuse-type coupling beams are used in hybrid coupled shear wall(HCSW)systems, enabling concrete buildings to be promptly recovered after severe earthquakes. This study aimed to analytically evaluate the seismic behavior of flexural and shear fuse beams situated in short-,medium-and high-rise RC buildings that have HCSWs.Three building groups hypothetically located in a high seismic hazard zone were studied.A series of 2D nonlinear time history analyses was accomplished in OpenSees, using the ground motion records scaled at the design basis earthquake level. It was found that the effectiveness of fuses in HCSWs depends on various factors such as size and scale of the building, allowable rotation value,inter-story drift ratio, residual drift quantity, energy dissipation value of the fuses, etc. The results show that shear fuses better meet the requirements of rotations and drifts. In contrast, flexural fuses dissipate more energy, but their sectional stiffness should increase to meet other requirements. It was concluded that adoption of proper fuses depends on the overall scale of the building and on how associated factors are considered.
文摘It is difficult to establish the process of chaos in time series from cardiac dynamics. We find that the deterministic components of heart rate variability are chaotic.

文摘During the operation of a DC microgrid, the nonlinearity and low damping characteristics of the DC bus make it prone to oscillatory instability. In this paper,we first establish a discrete nonlinear system dynamic model of a DC microgrid, study the effects of the converter sag coefficient, input voltage, and load resistance on the microgrid stability, and reveal the oscillation mechanism of a DC microgrid caused by a single source. Then,a DC microgrid stability analysis method based on the combination of bifurcation and strobe is used to analyze how the aforementioned parameters influence the oscillation characteristics of the system. Finally, the stability region of the system is obtained by the Jacobi matrix eigenvalue method.Grid simulation verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

文摘This paper proposes a novel method for solving the first-passage time probability problem of nonlinear stochastic dynamic systems. The safe domain boundary is exactly imposed into the radial basis function neural network(RBF-NN)architecture such that the solution is an admissible function of the boundary-value problem. In this way,the neural network solution can automatically satisfy the safe domain boundaries and no longer requires adding the corresponding loss terms, thus efficiently handling structure failure problems defined by various safe domain boundaries. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through three nonlinear stochastic examples defined by different safe domains, and the results are validated against the extensive Monte Carlo simulations(MCSs).

文摘Nonlinear amphibious vehicle rolling under regular waves and wind load is analyzed by a single degree of freedom system.Considering nonlinear damping and restoring moments,a nonlinear rolling dynamical equation of amphibious vehicle is established. The Hamiltonian function of the nonlinear rolling dynamical equation of amphibious vehicle indicate when subjected to joint action of periodic wave excitation and crosswind, the nonlinear rolling system degenerates into being asymmetric. The threshold value of excited moment of wave and wind is analyzed by the Melnikov method. Finally, the nonlinear rolling motion response and phase portrait were simulated by four order Runge-Kutta method at different excited moment parameters.
文摘This study compares the Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM) and the Variational Iteration Method (VIM) for solving nonlinear differential equations in engineering. This comprehensive comparison provides valuable guidance for selecting effective numerical methods for differential equations in engineering.
文摘The significant impact of earthquakes on human lives and the built environment underscores the extensive human and economic losses caused by structural collapses. This research is anticipated to serve as a valuable reference for seismic restraint reinforcement work on RC buildings, enriching the methods used for evaluating structures through nonlinear time history analysis based on the synthetic seismic wave approach.

文摘Based on the analysis of nonlinear geometric characteristics of the suspension systems and tires, a 3D nonlinear dynamic model of a typical heavy truck is established. The impact factors of dynamic tire loads, including the dynamic load stress factors, and the maximal and the minimal vertical dynamic load factors, are used to evaluate the dynamic interaction between heavy vehicles and roads under the condition of random road surface roughness. Matlab/Simulink is used to simulate the nonlinear dynamic system and calculate the impact factors. The effects of different road surface conditions on the safety of vehicle movement and the durability of parts of a vehicle are analyzed, as well as the effects of different structural parameters and different vehicle speeds on road surfaces. The study results provide both the warning limits of road surface roughness and the limits of corresponding dynamic parameters for the 5-axle heavy truck.

文摘The nonlinear dynamics of cantilevered piezoelectric beams is investigated under simultaneous parametric and external excitations. We also illustrate that the damping and load resistance affect the initiation excitation threshold.
