Fractures of the lateral process of the talus(FLPT)are uncommon fractures that represent a clinical challenge.Traditional radiological classification systems rely predominantly on radiographic findings. However, due to the high rate of FLPT misdiagnosis and the limited accuracy in evaluating concomitant talar injuries through plain radiographs, novel imaging classification systems have been developed that aim to enhance the diagnosis of concomitant talar injuries, thereby optimizing patient management and reducing the incidence of long-term complications. 展开更多

Fracture of the lateral process of the talus(FLPT)is uncommon in clinical practice and can be easily missed or misdiagnosed. In recent years,as researchers from all over the world have further deepened their research on FLPT,there has been a breakthrough in the classification, and the methods and principles of clinical management have changed accordingly;however, there is still no standardized guideline for the diagnosis and management of FLPT,and there have been few relevant literature review articles related to this kind of fracture in the past at least 5 years. In this article,we review the clinical classification,classification-based therapeutic recommendations, and prognosis of FLPT,with the aim of providing a reference for the clinical diagnosis and management of this infrequent fracture. 展开更多

Three cases of this rare type of injury were retrospectively reviewed. The sites of femoral shaft fractures and Hoffa fractures were documented. All femoral shall fractures were managed with internal tixation. The rate ofmisdiagnosis for the Hoffa fractures was documented. Functions of the affected knees were evaluated according to the modified Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) scores at two years follow-up. Femoral fractures were either transverse or composite in all three cases. Ipsilateral Hoffa fractures occurred at medial condyle in two cases, and lateral condyle in one case. Only one Hoffa fracture was identified preoperatively. All the femoral shaft fiattures healed uneventfully. In the patient whose Hoffa fracture was correctly diagnosed, the modified HSS score was 94. In another patient, whose Hoffa fracture was treated by a second operation, the modified HSS score was 93. And in the third case, who refused additional operation for the Hoffa fracture, the modified HSS score was only 70. Conclusively femoral shall fracture can be associated with ipsilateral Hoffa fracture, especially in motorcycle accident. This type of iniury is very rare and misdiagnosis is common. 展开更多

Hoffa's fracture is an uncommon fracture of the femoral condyle with coronal orientation of the fracture line. The mechanism of injury in pediatric Hoffa's fracture is road traffic accident, sports injury, and trivial injury. Clinical examination and proper imaging is important for diagnosis of pediatric Hoffa's fracture because of high chances of missing these injuries which can lead to nonunion and malunion at the fracture site. Open reduction and anatomical reduction of intraarticular fragment is the gold standard treatment of these fractures. We present a rare case of Hoffa's fracture in a 16-year-old girl with asso- ciated ipsilateral fibular fracture. 展开更多
