In this paper,the electromagnetic performance of variable flux memory(VFM)machines with series-magnetic-circuit is investigated and compared for different rotor topologies.Based on a V-type VFM machine,five topologies with different interior permanent magnet(IPM)arrangements are evolved and optimized under same constrains.Based on two-dimensional(2-D)finite element(FE)method,their electromagnetic performance at magnetization and demagnetization states is evaluated.It reveals that the iron bridge and rotor lamination region between constant PM(CPM)and variable PM(VPM)play an important role in torque density and flux regulation(FR)capabilities.Besides,the global efficiency can be improved in VFM machines by adjusting magnetization state(MS)under different operating conditions. 展开更多

While it is well-known that neuronal activity promotes plasticity and connectivity, the success of activity-based neural rehabilitation programs remains extremely limited in human clinical experience because they cannot adequately control neuronal excitability and activity within the injured brain in order to induce repair. However, it is possible to non-invasively modulate brain plasticity using brain stimu- lation techniques such as repetitive transcranial (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) techniques, which show promise for repairing injured neural circuits (Henrich-Noack et al., 2013; Lefaucher et al., 2014). Yet we are far from having full control of these techniques to repair the brain following neurotrauma and need more fundamen- tal research (Ellaway et al., 2014; Lefaucher et al., 2014). In this perspective we discuss the mechanisms by which rTMS may facilitate neurorehabilitation and propose experimental techniques with which magnetic stimulation may be investi- gated in order to optimise its treatment potential. 展开更多

Magnetic shielding is very important in the design of a high-power dc comparator. This paper addressed the application of magnetic circuit method to calculate the magnetic shielding effectiveness of high-power dc comparators when an external radial magnetic field is added. The mathematical relationship between the magnetic shielding effectiveness and the parameters of the magnetic shielding body were obtained. To verify the validity of the calculation method, we developped a procedure to measure the magnetic shielding effectiveness of the magnetic body by measuring the induction voltage of the detection winding instead of the magnetic intensity at a point in the magnetic shielding body, making the manipulation much easier. The result calculated with the magnetic circuit method turns out to be closer to the measured one compared with that calculated with a conventional algorithm proposed by Ren, suggesting that the magnetic circuit method is an applicable tool for estimating the toroidal cavity magnetic shielding effectiveness of a heavy current comparator when a radial magnetic field is added. 展开更多

Conventional ball bearing reaction wheel used to control the attitude of spacecraft can't absorb the centrifugal force caused by imbalance of the wheel rotor,and there will be a torque spike at zero speed,which seriously influences the accuracy and stability of spacecraft attitude control.Compared with traditional ball-bearing wheel,noncontact and no lubrication are the remarkable features of the magnetic bearing reaction wheel,and which can solve the high precision problems of wheel.In general,two radial magnetic bearings are needed in magnetic bearing wheel,and the design results in a relatively large axial dimension and smaller momentum-to-mass ratios.In this paper,a new type of magnetic bearing reaction wheel(MBRW) is introduced for satellite attitude control,and a novel integrated radial hybrid magnetic bearing(RHMB) with permanent magnet bias is designed to reduce the mass and minimize the size of the MBRW,etc.The equivalent magnetic circuit model for the RHMB is presented and a solution is found.The stiffness model is also presented,including current stiffness,position negative stiffness,as well as tilting current stiffness,tilting angular position negative stiffness,force and moment equilibrium equations.The design parameters of the RHMB are given according to the requirement of the MBRW with angular momentum of 30 N ? m ? s when the rotation speed of rotor reaches to 5 kr/min.The nonlinearity of the RHMB is shown by using the characteristic curves of force-control current-position,current stiffness,position stiffness,moment-control current-angular displacement,tilting current stiffness and tilting angular position stiffness considering all the rotor position within the clearance space and the control current.The proposed research ensures the performance of the radial magnetic bearing with permanent magnet bias,and provides theory basis for design of the magnetic bearing wheel. 展开更多

A category of permanent-magnet-shield(PM-shield)axial-field dual-rotor segmented switched reluctance machines(ADS-SRMs)are presented in this paper.These topologies are featured by using the magnetic material to shield the flux leakage in the stator and rotor parts.Besides,the deployed magnets weaken the magnetic saturation in the iron core,thus increasing the main flux.Hence,the torque-production capability can be increased effectively.All the PM-shield topologies are proposed and designed based on the magnetic equivalent circuit(MEC)model of ADS-SRM,which is the original design deploying no magnet.The features of all the PM-shield topologies are compared with the original design in terms of the magnetic field distributions,flux linkages,phase inductances,torque components,and followed by their motion-coupled analyses on the torque-production capabilities,copper losses,and efficiencies.Considering the cost reduction and the stable ferrite-magnet supply,an alternative proposal using the ferrite magnets is applied to the magnetic shielding.The magnet demagnetization analysis incorporated with the thermal behavior is performed for further verification of the motor performance. 展开更多

Rotating machines are very sensitive to mass unbalance which has a harmful effect on its running accuracy and service life. Therefore,a variety of dynamic balancing methods and devices are studied to reduce the vibration caused by mass unbalance. On-line active balancing is a new balancing procedure which is more convenient and precise than the previous methods. In this paper,an electromagnetic balancer based on ring coils and permanent magnets is presented. The balancer has a simple structure and the self-locking function without clutch,and transfers power by the non-contact electromagnetic field. In order to justify the rationality of its design,a two-dimension(2D) electromagnetic finite element model is conducted to verify that this magnetic circuit has no flux leakage and saturation. A three-dimension (3D) 1/10 model of the balancer is built to obtain the self-locking torque and driving torque. Based on the research work above,an electromagnetic balancer is developed. By testing the balancer using COCO80,it is verified effective to reduce the rotor unbalance at the speed of 1300 r/min. 展开更多

These seamless integrations focus on mobility, but at the same time strive to be unobtrusive to the end user. With the introduction of personal data assistants and intelligent cellular phones for the searching of the website, true mobile computing is closer than ever. However, battery technology, which powers most of these mobile connectivity solutions, has not kept up the same pace of improvement. The paper describes a methodology for the design and performance of a self-excited permanent-magnet generator applied to low power supplies. It combines an analytical field model, a lumped reluctance equivalent magnetic circuit, and an equivalent electrical circuit. An illustrated example of a 15-mW, 290-r/min generator is given, and the analysis techniques are validated by measurements on a prototype system. 展开更多

The manufacturing of spiral groove structure of two-dimensional valve(2D valve)feedback mechanism has shortcomings of both high cost and time-consuming.This paper presents a novel configuration of rotary electro-mechanical converter with negative feedback mechanism(REMC-NFM)in order to replace the feedback mechanism of spiral groove and thus reduce cost of valve manufacturing.In order to rapidly and quantitative evaluate the driving and feedback performance of the REMC-NFM,an analytical model taking leakage flux,edge effect and permeability nonlinearity into account is formulated based on the equivalent magnetic circuit approach.Then the model is properly simplified in order to obtain the optimal pitch angle.FEM simulation is used to study the influence of crucial parameters on the performance of REMC-NFM.A prototype of REMC-NFM is designed and machined,and an exclusive experimental platform is built.The torque-angle characteristics,torque-displacement characteristics,and magnetic flux density in the working air gap with different excitation currents are measured.The experimental results are in good agreement with the analytical and FEM simulated results,which verifies the correctness of the analytical model.For torque-angle characteristics,the overall torque increases with both current and rotation angle,which reaches about 0.48 N·m with 1.5 A and 1.5°.While for torque-displacement characteristics,the overall torque increases with current yet decrease with armature displacement due to the negative feedback mechanism,which is about 0.16 N·m with 1.5 A and 0.8 mm.Besides,experimental results of conventional torque motor are compared with counterparts of REMC-NFM in order to validate the simplified model.The research indicates that the REMC-NFM can be potentially used as the electro-mechanical converter for 2D valves in civil servo areas. 展开更多

This property has b een known in elements such as nickel, iron and cobalt. Because the rare-ear th alloy Terfenol-D can offer much larger strains than nickel, iron, cobalt, an d other smart materials such as piezoelectric materials, it is called giant magn etostrictive material. Making use of the giant magnetostrictive material, the gi ant magnetostrictive actuator has higher bandwidth and rapider response than oth er actuators. So it is widely used in active vibration control, especially in lo w frequency stage. In this paper, a turning vibration control system is develope d. The system has an actuator clamped in a flexor that is rigid in the feed and main cutting force directions, yet is flexible in the radial direction. The stru cture of the giant magnetostrictive actuator is developed after magnetic circuit and some structure parameter are calculated. According to the turning frequency , the transient and stable-state output of the giant magnetostrictive actuator is measured. The test result demonstrated that the actuator responses the input rapidly, and the actuator has perfect stable-state and transient output charact eristic. The characteristic includes the stable-state output linearity, repeata bility and transient delay between output displacement and input current. 展开更多

Dynamic characteristics of large permanent magnet direct‐drive generators(PMDGs)considering electromagnetic–structural coupling effects are analyzed in this study.Using the conformal mapping method,the scalar magnetic potential of the air gap magnetic field considering the slot effect is calculated.On the basis of the discrete current element and magnetic equivalent circuit model,the local magnetic saturation effect of the stator and rotor is quantitatively simulated and the air gap magnetic field intensity distribution is obtained via numerical simulation.A series of uniformly distributed equivalent electromagnetic springs are introduced to develop an electromagnetic–structural coupling finite element PMDG model.The proposed air gap field analysis method is verified by the finite element analysis results.On the basis of the test platform for the Goldwind 1.5MW PMDG,both modal and dynamic response tests for the stator/rotor coupling system are conducted,and the results are compared with the natural frequencies,mode shapes,and vibration responses obtained using the numerical model.The effects of the air gap length and rotor speed on the natural frequencies of the coupling system are analyzed.The proposed model has the potential to accurately evaluate the PMDG vibration energy,avoiding resonance points,and maintaining stable operations of the unit. 展开更多

The magnetic field of coaxial permanent magnet Halbach circuit is calculated first using the finite element method SUPERFISH and the approximate expression of the magnet circuit is obtained.The forces acting on IREB's electron in such magnetic field are analyzed by the use of fluid model and the radial force equation in modified Mathieu function form is drawn then.At last a 2.5-D particle in-cell(PIC)simulation code is used to investigate the physical process of the IREB's propagation.In the PIC simulation,the electron beam current,thickness,magnet field amplitude and the beam's initial incident angle related to the stable propagation are mainly discussed.The conclusion is made that several kilo-amperes intense annular electron beam could propagate stably,meanwhile the focusing form of such magnet geometry provides action mechanism for the interaction between beam electrons and microwave in the ubitron. 展开更多

An analytical model has been developed for analyzing the braking torque in electromagnetic retarder by flux tube and armature reaction method. The magnetic field distribution in air gap, the eddy current induced in the rotor and the braking torque are calculated by the developed model. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element models for retarder have also been developed. Results from the analytical model are compared with those from finite element models. The validity of these three models is checked by the comparison of the theoretical predictions and the measurements from an experimental prototype. In this paper,the influences of the shape of magnetic material on the magnetoelectric(ME)properties of PZT/Metglas magnetoelectric(ME)composites have been investigated.The results indicate that,with the decrease of the waist length(L w)of the dumbbell-shaped Metglas,the magnetic flux density in the center region and ME coefficients(αME)of the composites increase,while the optimal bias magnetic field H dc decreases on the contrary.In an AC magnetic field of 1 k Hz,the maximumαME(αMax)of the composite with L w=20 mm exhibits 1.3 times larger than that of the one with L w=50 mm,and the optimal H dc deceases by 15%.At the resonant frequencies of each composites,αMax is enhanced by1.3 times as L w decreases from 50 to 20 mm.The simulation made by Comsol Multiphysics and the theoretical analysis based on an equivalent magnetic circuit confirm the experimental results. 展开更多
