We present the specific ab-initio calculations that detail the variations of perovskite BaZrO3 caused by in-plane strain. Specifically, the internal relaxation, which was not captured in the widely used biaxial strain model, was included in a complementary manner to lattice relaxation. Density functional theory as well as a hybrid functional method based on a plane wave basis set was employed to calculate the lattice structure, elastic constants, electronic properties and optical properties of perovskite BaZrO3. The lattice parameter c exhibited a clear linear dependence on the imposed in-plane strain, but the Poisson's ratio caused by internal relaxation was smaller than the elastic deformation, indicating an "inelastic" or "plastic" relaxation manner caused by the introduction of internal relaxation. As a result, the related electronic and optical properties of perovskite BaZrO3 were also strongly affected by the in-plane strain, which revealed an effective way to adjust the properties of perovskite BaZrO3 via internal relaxation. 展开更多

In order to understand the relationship between the mechanical property and the effect of bleaching and dyeing to the soybean protein fibers(SPF),four mechanical models are chosen. The tensile and relaxation property of the soybean protein fibers are analyzed. The tensile and relaxation curves are fitted with the suitable model. It shows that the relaxation property of SPF is in accordance with the standard linear solid model.Estimates of the Hookean spring modulus at 8% and at 10% are different,so some structural modifications could be produced by the strain.Bleached fibers show a higher level of relaxation than raw fibers and dyed fibers.Bleaching has a remarkable influence on decreasing tenacity at break for each test modality.Knotted and looped modalities decrease fiber tenacity remarkably in all three samples. 展开更多

Three different online heat treatment processes were designed to study the effects on the mechanical properties of a 0.19C-1.6Si-1.6Mn(wt%) hot rolled strip steel. The microstructures were characterized by means of SEM,TEM,EPMA,and XRD.The mechanical properties were estimated by tensile tests. Results showed that a satisfying combination of strength and ductility could be obtained through the ferrite relaxation and direct quenching and partitioning process.Analysis was also focused on this process. The microstructure contained proeutectoid ferrite grains, martensite packets and blocky or interlath retained austenite, and also contained carbide-free bainite in the case of relatively high quench temperatures. The retained austenite fraction was increased through proeutectoid ferrite and partial bainite transformation, while the tensile strength was also consequently decreased. The most of retained austenite transformed to ferrite under deformation and the elongation was obviously improved. 展开更多

In this work, a method based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) approach-reside-retract experiments was established to simultaneously quantify the elastic and viscoelastic properties of single cells. First, the elastic and viscoelastic properties of normal breast cells and cancerous breast cells were measured, showing significant differences in Young’s modulus and relaxation times between normal and cancerous breast cells. Remarkable differences in cellular topography between normal and cancerous breast cells were also revealed by AFM imaging. Next, the elastic and viscoelasitc properties of three other types of cell lines and primary normal B lymphocytes were measured; results demonstrated the potential of cellular viscoelastic properties in complementing cellular Young’s modulus for discerning different states of cells. This research provides a novel way to quantify the mechanical properties of cells by AFM, which allows investigation of the biomechanical behaviors of single cells from multiple aspects. 展开更多
