An improved ignition method with three circumferential equidistributed ignitors at main diaphragm has been presented, by which the produced incident shock waves have higher repeatability, and better steadiness in the pressure, temperature and velocity fields of flow behind the incidence shock, and thus meets the requirements of aerodynamic experiment. The attachment of a damping section at the end of the driver can eliminate the high reflection pressure produced by detonation wave, and the backward detonation driver can be employed to generate high enthalpy and high density test flow. The incident shock wave produced by this method is well repeated and with weak attenuation. The reflection wave caused by the contracted section at the main diaphragm will weaken the unfavorable effect of rarefaction wave behind the detonation wave, which indicates that the forward detonation driver can be applied in the practice. For incident shock wave of identical strength, the initial pressure of the forward detonation driver is about 1 order of magnitude lower than that of backward detonation.展开更多

The experiment was done in a stainless shock tube (80 mm in inner diameter, 10 mm in wall thickness and 5 360 mm in length). The velocities of the incident and reflected compression waves in the foam were measured by using piezo-ceramic pressure sensors. The end-wall peak pressure behind the reflected wave in the foam was measured by using a crystal piezoelectric sensor. It is suggested that the high end-wall pressure may be caused by a rapid contact between the foam and the end-wall surface. Both open-cell and closed-cell foams with different length and density were tested. Through comparing the numerical and experimental end-wall pressure, the permeability coefficients α and β are quantitatively determined.展开更多

Initially a normal shock wave is formed in the shock tube which migrates toward the closed end of the tube and that in turn leads to the reflection of shock. Due to the boundary layer interaction with the reflected shock, the bifurcation of shock wave takes place. The bifurcated shock wave then approaches the contact surface and shock train is generated. Till date only a few studies have been conducted to investigate this shock train phenomenon inside the shock tube. For the present study a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has been performed on a two dimensional axi-symmetric model of a shock tube using unsteady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations. In order to investigate the detailed characteristics of shock train, parametric studies have been performed by varying different parameters such as the shock tube length, diameter, pressure ratio used inside the shock tube.展开更多

The principle of this method is to apply a static magnetic field to limit electron movement, thereby increasing the equivalent resistance and thus reducing the induced current and SH. We consider the static magnetic field acting on the plasma of the entire induced current loop rather than on the local plasma, where the induced current is excited by the magnetic field component of LF EM waves. Analytical expressions of SH suitable for magnetized cylindrical enveloping plasma are derived by adopting an equivalent circuit approach, by which SHis calculated with respect to various plasma parameter settings. The results show that SH can be reduced under a static magnetic field and the maximum magnetic field strength that mitigates blackout is less than 0.1 T. Experiments in which LF EM waves propagate in a shock-tubegenerated magnetized cylindrical enveloping plasma are also conducted. SH measured under the magnetic field(the magnetic field strength B0 acting on the magnetic field probe was about0.06 T) reduces at f=10 MHz and f=30 MHz when ne≈1.9×1013 cm-3, which is consistent with theoretical results. The verification of the theory thus suggests that applying a static magnetic field with a weak magnetic field has the potential to improve the transmission capacity of LF EM waves in dense plasma.展开更多

This work is aimed at resolving compression waves, the shock structure, shock formation, propagation and reflection of fully formed shocks. Evolutions obtained from the mathematical models always satisfy differentiability requirements in space and time dictated by the highest order of the derivatives of the dependent variables in the mathematical models investigated. All solutions reported in this paper including boundary conditions and initial conditions are always analytic. Solutions of the mathematical models are obtained using the space-time finite element method in which the space-time integral forms are space-time variationally consistent ensuring unconditionally stable computations during the entire evolution. Solution for a space-time strip or slab is calculated and is time marched upon convergence to obtain complete evolution for the desired space-time domain, thus ensuring time accurate evolutions. The space-time local approximation over a space-time element of a space-time strip or slab is p-version hierarchical with higher-order global differentiability in space and time, i.e., we consider scalar product approximation spaces in which k = (k1, k2) are the order of the space in space and time and p = (p1, p2) are p-levels of the approximations in space and time. Model problem studies are presented for different mathematical models and are compared with solutions obtained from the complete mathematical model based on CBL and constitutive theories for viscous compressible medium to illustrate the deficiencies and shortcomings of the simplified and approximate models in simulating correct physics of normal shocks.展开更多

But these studies assumed centered shock and expansion waves, which are generally produced by instantaneous diaphragm rupture process. But in real scenario, the diaphragm ruptures with a finite rupture time and this phenomenon will significantly alter the shock wave propagation characteristics. In the present research, numerical simulations have been carried out on a two dimensional micro shock tube model to simulate the effect of finite diaphragm rupture process on the wave characteristics. The rarefaction effect was simulated using Maxwell’s slip wall equations. The results show that shock wave attenuates rapidly in micro shock tubes compared to conventional macro shock tubes. Finite diaphragm rupture causes the formation of non-centered shock wave at some distance ahead of the diaphragm. The shock propagation distance is also drastically reduced by the rupture effects.展开更多

However, UHH steel sheets showed negligible deformation when loaded at low peak-over pressures and showed sudden brittle failure at high peak-over pressures. Similar results were obtained by quasi-static testing, UHH steel failed abruptly while Al showed ductile behavior. Results from literature indicate that to protect structures against shock loading it is necessary that they dissipate energy via plastic deformation. The Al sheets were shown to deform plastically both in quasi-static and shock loading. Thus, hardness along with ductility is required to dissipate supersonic shock waves.展开更多

Model problem studies are presented for different mathematical models and are compared with solutions obtained from the complete mathematical model based on CBL and constitutive theories for viscous compressible medium to illustrate the deficiencies and shortcomings of the simplified and approximate models in simulating correct physics of normal shocks.
文摘Gas flows through micro shock tubes are widely used in many engineering applications such as micro engines, particle delivery devices etc. Recently, few studies have been carried out to explore the shock wave excursions through micro shock tubes at very low Reynolds number and at rarefied gas condition. The shock propagation distance is also drastically reduced by the rupture effects.
文摘Shock tube experiments were carried out to investigate dynamic behavior of Ultra-high hardness(UHH)steel and Aluminium(Al) sheets of 0.8 mm thickness at 0.55, 0.9 and 1.18 MPa peak-over pressure.Experimental results showed that center point deflection increases with an increase in peak-over pressure for Al sheets. Thus, hardness along with ductility is required to dissipate supersonic shock waves.
文摘By elastic mechanics, the deformation of single throttle-slice for shock absorber was analyzed, the formula of its deformation was established. According to the relation of the deformation of multi-throttle-slices with the pressure on each slice, the analytic formula of equivalent thickness of multi-throttle-slices was established. Followed is a practical example for the computation of the equivalent thickness of multi-throttle-slices, compared the computed results with that simulated by ANSYS. The results show that the computation method of equivalent thickness of multi-throttle-slices is accurate enough.
