Mid-wavelength infrared(MWIR)detection and long-wavelength infrared(LWIR)detection constitute the key technologies for space-based Earth observation and astronomical detection.The advanced ability of infrared(IR)detection technology to penetrate the atmosphere and identify the camouflaged targets makes it excellent for space-based remote sensing.Thus,such detectors play an essential role in detecting and tracking low-temperature and far-distance moving targets.However,due to the diverse scenarios in which space-based IR detection systems are built,the key parameters of IR technologies are subject to unique demands.We review the developments and features of MWIR and LWIR detectors with a particular focus on their applications in space-based detection.We conduct a comprehensive analysis of key performance indicators for IR detection systems,including the ground sampling distance(GSD),operation range,and noise equivalent temperature difference(NETD)among others,and their interconnections with IR detector parameters.Additionally,the influences of pixel distance,focal plane array size,and operation temperature of space-based IR remote sensing are evaluated.The development requirements and technical challenges of MWIR and LWIR detection systems are also identified to achieve high-quality space-based observation platforms. 展开更多

Considering gravity change from ground alignment to space applications, a fuzzy proportional-integral-differential(PID)control strategy is proposed to make the space manipulator track the desired trajectories in different gravity environments. The fuzzy PID controller is developed by combining the fuzzy approach with the PID control method, and the parameters of the PID controller can be adjusted on line based on the ability of the fuzzy controller. Simulations using the dynamic model of the space manipulator have shown the effectiveness of the algorithm in the trajectory tracking problem. Compared with the results of conventional PID control,the control performance of the fuzzy PID is more effective for manipulator trajectory control. 展开更多

In this Letter, we describe an optical assembly that is designed for the engineering application of the atomic laser cooling techniques. Using a folded optical path scheme, we have built a miniaturized, compact magneto-optical trap (CMOT) for an ^87Rb atomic fountain clock. Compared with the conventional magneto-optical traps used in other clocks, our system is more robust, more compact, more stable, and saves about 60% laser power. This optical setup has operated for about a year in our fountain system, passed the thermal cycle tests and the mechanical vibration and shock tests, and maintained a high performance without a need for realignment. 展开更多

Metamorphic In0.55Ga0.45P/In0.06Ga0.94As/Ge triple-junction (3J-MM) solar cells are grown on Ge (100) sub- strates via metal organic chemical vapor deposition. Epi-structural analyses such as high resolution x-ray diffrac- tion, photoluminence, cathodoluminescence and HRTEM are employed and the results show that the high crystal quality of 3J-MM solar cells is obtained with low threading dislocation density of graded buffer (an average value of 6.8× 10^4/cm2). Benefitting from the optimized bandgap combination, under one sun, AM0 spectrum, 25℃ conditions, the conversion efficiency is achieved about 32%, 5% higher compared with the lattice-matched In0.49Ga0.51P/In0.01Ga0.99As/Ge triple junction (3J-LM) solar cell. Under 1-MeV electron irradiation test, the degradation of the EQE and I-V characteristics of 3J-MM solar cells is at the same level as the 33-LM solar cell. The end-of-life efficiency is -27.1%. Therefore, the metamorphic triple-junction solar cell may be a promising candidate for next-generation space multi-junction solar cells. 展开更多

Owing to the increasing demand for tribological brakes for space applications, the development of novel materials and advanced technologies is necessary. This paper presents the design, characterization, and realization of powder metallurgy processed metal-matrix friction materials intended for the above-mentioned tribological brakes. Selecting appropriate ingredients, which provides an effective way to tailor the properties of the friction material, is evolving as a strategy to meet the design requirements. The tribological behaviors of the friction material are experimentally investigated under different conditions, and special attention is focused on the vacuum tribology. Examinations and analyses of the friction surface and subsurface corroborate the wear mechanism. In addition, the erosion resistances of the friction material are evaluated by exposure tests of ultraviolet irradiation and atomic oxygen. Finally, present and potential space applications of the friction material are also introduced based on experimental studies. 展开更多

Surface potential decay of polymers for electrical insulation can help to determine the dark conductivity for spacecraft charging analysis. Due to the existence of radiation-induced conductivity, it decays fast in the first few hours after irradiation and exponentially slowly for the remaining time. The measurement of dark conductivity with this method usually takes the slow part and needs a couple of days. Integrating the Fowler formula into the deep dielectric charging equations, we obtain a new expression for the fast decay part. The experimental data of different materials, dose rates and temperatures are fitted by the new expression. Both the dark conductivity and the radiation-induced conductivity are derived and compared with other methods. The result shows a good estimation of dark conductivity and radiation-induced conductivity in high-resistivity polymers, which enables a fast measurement of dielectric conductivity within about 600 rain after irradiation. 展开更多

More space truss construction has been planned to develop and utilize space resources.These trusses are designed in the way of large-scale,complex,modular,and on-orbit assembly.To meet the upcoming challenge of large-scale space infrastructure construction,it is necessary to study space truss automation design and robotic construction.This paper proposes an ordinal finite screw adjacency matrix model(OFSAMM),focusing on the relationship between assembly motions,to express and compute a space truss structure.In this model,a space truss is abstracted as a set of ordered assembly motions,each of which is recorded as a finite screw as the basic element of the truss and its assembly.The operation of truss transformation is also derived under this model.Therefore,the truss configuration,the assembly sequence,the truss sub-assembly,the truss components,and the on-orbit assembly task can be expressed and calculated in a unified model,which is calculated and stores the truss topology and assembly with the minimum storage cost.At the end of this paper,we introduce how to synthesize and optimize space truss design through two cases.The study will help to improve design efficiency.Furthermore,it provides a theoretical basis for the automatic construction of space truss structures,especially in the next stage. 展开更多

The plume divergence angle is an important reference index for evaluating the thrust efficiency and propellant utilization of space propulsion systems.However,the characteristics of the dynamic variation of plume divergence angle over time cannot be measured using current methods.This paper utilizes high-speed photography and image processing methods to develop a strategy that can give a quick,non-destructive and real-time detection of the divergence angle.Effectiveness of the strategy is verified,and the characteristics of plume divergence angles of different lasercontrolled solid propellants were further analyzed and fitted.The experimental results indicate that graphene could effectively reduce the divergence angle,while oxide-doped samples had larger divergence angles than alloy-doped and carbon-doped samples. 展开更多

As a key technology for space-based Earth observation and astronomical exploration,cooled mid-wavelength and long-wavelength Infrared(IR)detection is widely used in national defense,astronomy exploration,medical imaging,environmental monitoring,agricultural and other areas.The performances of IR detectors,including cut-off wavelength,detectivity,sensitivity and temperature resolution,plays a significant role in efficiently observing and tracking the low-temperature far-distance moving targets.Achieving optimal detection performance requires the IR detectors to operate at cryogenic temperatures.The future development of space-based applications relies heavily on the mid-wavelength and long-wavelength IR detection technologies,which should be enabled by the long-life cryogenic refrigeration and high-efficiency energy transportation system operating below 40 K,to support the Earth observation and astronomical detection.However,the efficiency degradation caused by the super low temperature brings tremendous challenges to the life time of cryogenic refrigeration and energy transportation systems.This paper evaluates the influence of cryogenic temperature on the infrared detector performances,reviews the features,development and space applications of cryogenic cooling technologies,as well as the cryogenic energy transportation approaches.Additionally,it analyzes the future development trends and challenges in supporting the space-based IR detection. 展开更多
