The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that contribute to brittleness and to identify strategies for mitigating these factors in populations with varying degrees of thermal vulnerability,based on the potential impact of extreme heat exposure on human survival and habitability.The physiological condition of lower adaptability to high temperature environments and the assessment of individuals who may have higher tolerance time in high temperature environments based on spatial perspectives suggest the need for targeted spatial optimization strategies for commuters and disadvantaged populations.This is demonstrated through a case study.These optimization measures encompass a variety of aspects,including the integration of transportation systems,the expansion of grey space corridors,the improvement of green space layout,and the implantation of green infrastructure.The study aims to reduce the exposure time of thermally vulnerable individuals to high temperature environments through spatial optimization strategies,to enhance the resilience of urban green spaces to heat stress,and to reduce the probability of heat-wave occurrence. 展开更多

This study aimed to effectively reduce the cracking susceptibility of the laser clad coating by enhancing the environmental temperature during laser cladding,and reveal the residual stress distribution in different depths of the coating.The TiNi/Ti2Ni-based coatings were prepared on Ti6Al4V by laser cladding at different environmental temperatures of25,400,600and800°C.The changes in residual stress along the depth of the coatings were investigated in detail by the nanoindentation method.Results showed that the average residual stress of2.90GPa in the coating prepared at25°C was largest.With the increase in environmental temperature,the average residual stress was reduced to1.34GPa(400°C),0.70GPa(600°C)and0GPa(800°C).For all the coatings,the residual stress was increased with increasing the distance from the coating surface.Enhancing the environmental temperature can effectively reduce the cracking susceptibility of the coatings. 展开更多

The immature embryos (IEs) of wheat are the most widely used tissues for in vitro culture and genetic transformation due to its high regeneration competency. However, this explant can only be maintained in 4℃ daily cooler for a short period time for its use in plant tissue culture or transformation experiments. This study aimed to investigate the effects of environmental temperature, cryopreservation storage temperature, and heat shock culture (HSC) temperature on the regeneration frequency of wheat IEs. Results indicated that environmental temperature significantly affected the induction of embryonic calli. The optimum total accumulated temperature (TAT) during the time of anthesis and sampling for regeneration of these tissues was around 280℃ for spring wheat type cv. CB037 and approximately 300℃ for winter wheat type cv. Kenong 199. Regeneration ability obviously declined when the highest environmental temperature was over 35℃ for 1 d or a high temperature between 30 and 33℃ lasted for 5 d during anthesis and sampling. This finding was verified by culturing the freshly isolated IEs under different temperatures from 29 to 37℃ in different controlled growth incubators for 5 d; the IEs almost completely lost regeneration ability when the temperature rose to 37℃. Cryopreservation of-20℃ caused the wheat samples lost ability of producing callus or embryonic callus in a few days, and cryopreservation of-10℃ more than 10 d made the regeneration potential of the tissues dramatically declined. Comparatively, the temperature that best maintained high regeneration ability was -5℃, at which the materials can be maintained for around 1 mon. In addition, the preservation of the immature samples at -5 or -10℃ inhibited the direct germination of the IEs, avoiding the embryo axis removing process. Our results are useful for ensuring that field collection and cryopreservation of the wheat IEs are done correctly to enable tissue culture and genetic transformation. 展开更多

Atomic force microscopy(AFM)is increasingly being used as a fundamental tool for dimensional measurements at the nanoscale in the laboratory and in industry.Since the environmental temperature is not controlled in many measurements,or is even varied on purpose,quantification of its effects on AFM dimensional measurements is needed.In this paper,the influences of the temperature in the entire environment of the AFM(excluding only the controller and computer)and that in the local environment around the tip–sample are investigated.The results show that lateral dimensional measurements are affected mainly by the entire environmental temperature.However,vertical measurements are influenced by the temperature of both the entire environment and the local environment.The effects become significant for temperatures higher than some threshold,here between 35 and 40 XC. 展开更多

The dynamic evolutions of the discord and entanglement of two atoms immersed in two independent Lorentzian reservoirs at zero and finite temperatures have been investigated by using the time-convolutionless master-equation method.Our results show that,nonzero temperature can induce the entanglement sudden death and accelerate the decays of discord and entanglement.The discord and the entanglement have different robustness for different initial states and their robustness may change under certain conditions.When both the non-Markovian effect and detuning are present simultaneously,due to the memory and feedback effect of non-Markovian reservoirs,the discord and entanglement can be effectively protected even at nonzero temperature by increasing the non-Markovian effect and the detuning. 展开更多

No p34cdc2, H1 kinase activity was detected in the oocytes after progesterone stimulation or OA microinjection; Western blotting analysis showed that the level of p3cdc2, and p33 in the oocytes are significantly lower than those in the oocytes derived from the hibernating toads (below 10 ℃). 25S-Met incorporation analysis showed that when the oocytes were incubated at 6℃, synthesis of about thirty defferent polypeptides was promoted or induced, including p34cdc2 and some other p13suc1-binding proteins. All these results indicated that a low temperature environment is essential for the oocytes of Bufo Bufo gargarizans to express and store some cell cycle drivers and its regulators, and to gain the maturation competence. These results will also provide a new clue for explaining the molecular mechanisms why gametogenesis of some organisms depends on a relative low temperature and how to maintain the geographical distribution of some animals. 展开更多

Model updating for aircraft in a high temperature environment(HTE)is proposed based on the hierarchical method.With this method,the problem can be decomposed into temperature field updating and dynamic structural updating.In order to improve the estimation accuracy,the model updating problem is turned into a multi-objective optimization problem by constructing the objective function which combined with residues of modal frequency and effective modal mass.Then the metamodeling,support vector regression(SVR)is introduced to improve the optimization efficiency,and the solution can be determined by adaptive weighted-sum method(AWS).Finally,the proposed method is tested on a finite element(FE)model of a reentry vehicle model.The results show that the multi-objective model updating method in HTE can identify the input parameters of the temperature field and structure with good accuracy. 展开更多

The effects of temperature on corrosion and the electrochemical behavior of Ni82.3Cr7Fe3Si4.5B3.2 glassy alloy in HC1,H2SO4,and H3PO4 acids were studied using AC and DC techniques.Impedance data reveal that the susceptibility to localized corrosion increases with increasing temperature.Potentiodynamic polarization curves reveal that the bulk glassy alloy is spontaneously passivated at all the investigated temperature in H2SO4 and H3PO4 solutions.A localized corrosion effect in HCl solution is clearly observed.The apparent activation energies in the regions of Tafel,active,and passive,as well as the enthalpies and entropies of the dissolution process were determined and discussed.The high apparent activation energy(Ea) value for H3PO4 solution in Tafel region is explained by the low aggressivity of PO4^3- ions. 展开更多

A cold-adapted gram-negative bacterium, hydrocarbon-degrading Pseudoalteromonas sp. NJ289, was isolated from sea-ice of the Antarctica region, and sequenced the whole genome through the next generation sequencing platform. The assembly yielded three contigs representing two chromosomes and one plasmid with the sizes of 3.2 Mb, 636 kb and 1.8 kb, respectively. The G+C contents of genome were 40.83% and included 3 589 ORFs. Functional annotation indicated some potential roles in enzymatic activity and environmental adaptability. This study may help for understanding the population diverse, evolutionary ecology and the microbial interaction. 展开更多

Neptunea cumingii is an important nutrition-rich economic species in China.Juveniles of N.cumingii suff er from high mortality at low temperatures,which has proved a limiting factor in raising seedlings in artifi cial habitats.Previous research has shown that N.cumingii displays aggregation behavior in response to adverse environmental changes.Therefore,we determined the eff ects of temperature,food,size of juvenile snails,substratum type,and density of juvenile snails on the aggregation behavior of N.cumingii.Results show that,at a low(4°C)or a high(22°C)temperature,juvenile snails adjusted to the inhospitable environment by exhibiting increased aggregation behavior.However,their aggregation behaviors diff ered at these two temperatures.There was no signifi cant diff erence in the aggregation rate,but the typical aggregation size was larger at 4°C than at 22°C.At 10°C or 16°C,aggregation behavior of juvenile snails reduced.Aggregation increased in the satiation treatment at 10°C and 16°C.Small-sized juveniles tended to have higher aggregation rates(92.22%)and a larger typical aggregation size.More juveniles were distributed in the bottom of shaded substrata.A larger typical aggregation size or higher density signifi cantly reduced the mortality of juvenile snails at a low temperature(4°C).These results broaden our understanding of gastropod aggregation behavior and can be used to develop and improve commercial breeding strategies and resource recovery for N.cumingii. 展开更多

Background:Incubating birds must balance the conflict between thermal needs of the developing embryos and their self?maintenance needs for energy.The Chinese Grouse (Tetrastes sewerzowi) lives in high mountain conifer forests and faces energy stress,cold environment,and predation pressure.Females might adjust incubation rhythm to adapt to these constraints. Methods:Two methods were used to investigate egg laying and incubation pattern of the Chinese Grouse;25 nests were monitored by data loggers and 12 nests by infrared video cameras. Results:Female Chinese Grouses usually laid an egg every 2 days.The incubation period was 28-31 days. Overall incubation constancy for Chinese Grouse was 93%. The females took 5.0 recesses per day and 34% of all 1696 recesses were taken in the crepuscular period. The average recess duration was 20.3 min. Females took more and shorter recesses in the latter part of incubation.The females who allocated more time to foraging had a higher reproductive success. Conclusions:Probably due to its high egg/body mass ratio,the Chinese Grouse has a long laying interval of 49 h. We suggest that,due to energy stress,females have relatively more recesses and they increase the number of recesses as incubation progresses.To compensate for the embryos'thermal needs, they extend the incubation period and shorten the recess duration in this cold environment. 展开更多

TiO_(2) supported on active carbon fiber(TiO_(2)/ACF),an absorbable photocatalyst,is a new kind of material applied in air purification.In this paper,the influence of environmental temperature(T)and relative humidity(RH)on the gas-solid adsorption of toluene and the photocatalytic oxidation(PCO)efficiency of adsorbed toluene on TiO_(2)/ACF were studied,and then,the purification capability of TiO_(2)/ACF was estimated.PCO results showed that although the PCO efficiency increased under high RH and T levels,the amount of adsorption of toluene decreased.Moreover,quantitative analysis results of intermediates indicated that more environmental risk emerged when PCO of toluene was carried out at higher environmental T and RH levels because more toxic intermediates would be accumulated on the TiO_(2)/ACF.So,it is significant to control the environmental T and RH conditions in the application of the PCO technique.T 525uC and RH530% is the optimal condition for purifying toluene in our experimental system. 展开更多

This study was to evaluate the efficacy of AI vaccine against AI in poultry. About 400 serum samples were collected from the selected 130 farms located at Rajshahi region, Bangladesh. The study was carried out from January, 2013 to January, 2015. The AI vaccine titres were compared in different breed of layer, environmental temperature, feed and egg production. Result showed that the value of titres (mean ± SD) in Hyline brown, Hyline white, Bovans white and Novogen white were 6.71 ± 0.05, 6.67 ± 0.06, 6.79 ± 0.03 and 6.43 ± 0.04, respectively. The highest serum antibody titres were 6.61 ± 0.24 against AI antibody in 〉 26 ℃ environment temperature. The highest and lowest serum antibody value of AI against feed brand (nutrient) were 7.75 ± 0.08 and 5.58 ± 0.22 for Aftab and Quality brand feed, respectively. 展开更多

In order to reduce the temperature measurement error with the uncooled infrared thermal imager, experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of environment temperature and measurement distance on the measurement error of human eye temperature. First, the forehead temperature was used as an intermediate variable to obtain the actual temperature of human eyes. Then, the effects of environment temperature and measurement distance on the temperature measurement were separately analyzed. Finally, an empirical model was established to correlate actual eye temperature with the measured temperature, environment temperature, and measurement distance. To verify the formula, three different environment temperatures were tested at different distances. The measurement errors were substantially reduced using the empirical model for temperature correction. The results show that this method can effectively improve the accuracy of temperature measurement using the infrared thermal imager. 展开更多

The mechanical properties of 316L stainless steel repaired with Fe314 under different temperatures and humidities without inert gas protection were studied. Results indicated favorable compatibility between Fe314 and 316L stainless steel. The average yield strength, tensile strength, and sectional contraction percentage were higher in repaired samples than in 316L stainless steel, whereas the elongation rate was slightly lower. The different conditions of humiture environment on the repair sample exerted minimal influence on tensile and yield strengths. The Fe314 cladding layer was mainly composed of equiaxed grains and mixed with randomly oriented columnar crystal and tiny pores or impurities in the tissue. Results indicated that the hardness value of Fe314 cladding layer under different humiture environments ranged within 419-451.1 HVo.2. The field humimre environment also showed minimal impact on the average hardness of Fe314 cladding layers. Furthermore, 316L stainless steel can be repaired through laser cladding by using Fe314 powder without inert gas protection under different temperatures and humidity environments. 展开更多
